Words of wisdom learned the hard way. People have been stuck in the mud along the Turnagain Arm while exploring during slack tide. One woman got her 4-wheeler stuck, then she got stuck when she was uanble to remove her herself from her lace-up boots buried in the soft mud. She was unable to be rescued and did not survive. Hence warning signs are for real. Also, kayakers must pay close attention to tide tables when kayaking in Alaska waters. Think of tides as powerful rushing rivers, coupled with common strong winds and you can be in serious trouble before you realize it. Even kayak paddles create a lot of resistence in winds. Always kayak up river when you set-out, then you can always float back to your starting point if you tired-out. When you set out on a lake, know the weather forcast. Weather in Aslaska commonly changes in minutes. Needless to say, but I must, always wear a flotation device (and dry suit if possible), acknowledge your physical and kayaking limits and know your environment. I know, I kayaked numerous rivers and inlets in Alaska and was involved in countless SAR&R missions.

The Belugas were wonderful to watch. The baby one was fun to watch. Amazing scenery. Thanks for taking me along on this journey.

It was so cool to see the Belugas. They seem to be more like dolphins than whales since they swim in groups ore than the whales do. I hope you are having a blast in Hawaii if you are still there.

Lol, hearing you say Skilak (pronounced like Skee-lack) made me realize how many ways people can pronounce things when they hail from different areas ov the world. Awesome! Belugas! We usually drive out that way on the arm to watch the belugas in the summer.

Yeah, SKEE-lak. every year, i'll hear different ways of saying kenai (KEN-eye), valdez (vahl-DEZ), chitina (chi-TEE-nah), and a few others situk, slikok, etc. following normal english rules of pronounciation, they're all right. It goes to show you alaska residents are weird. probably from drinking water out of a random pipe on the highway. :D The one i'm not sure of is unalakleet. Everyone i know pronounces it without the "lah" YOU-nah-kleet. but you hear the "lah" from people who live there. YOU-nah-lah-kleet
