Every video I watch of Dr Hook, they stopped the music and just flat entertained folks. High or not, they're awesome.
I saw Dennis play live, solo, years after this. He was as high as a kite but he didn't miss a note.
Good God. How can musicians be this high and still play?
Underrated band. What I like the most is that they don’t try to be cool. They just are naturally cool.
Artists saying "f-it" made it cool :P
What makes you believe they're underrated? Please explain.
@@gogoyubari366 No thanks. If you don't see it, you won't get it. Obviously I think they deserve more attention, popularity, and awards than what they got, and you think they got exactly (or more than) what they deserved . We will not agree, no matter what.
This type of online debates always end up like children arguing :' Who is better superman or batman?"
@@gogoyubari366 If you had to ask the question, you likely won't understand the answer.
Did you even grow up at the height of their popularity??? They made the cover of rolling stone mag, I was 13 when Sylvia mother came out.. it sold over a million copys it was in the top 5 along with cover of the rolling stone. People like you always want to remark about how this band or this person was underrated.and you have absolutely no idea what the hell you're talking!! About or you would have answered the dude that just wanted your opinion on why you made such a stupid comment..
Seen them back in the 70's at the Agora in Columbus and it was the craziest ass show I ever saw. I've seen Zeppllin, the Stones ,Kiss AC/DC, Floyd , every band from the 70's you can think of and never had a better time than Dr. Hook. These guys put on a show you'd never forget. We sat 2 feet from the stage and passed joints and whiskey back and forth all night. One night I'll never forget.
I think I was there too, at least know I know they were really there! .lots of great shows, dicky Betts reo speedwagon the godz! Good times
R.I.P. Ray Sawyer what a showman and a great musician you will be missed but never forgotten. Great band who really knew how to have a good time.miss those days.
Gary Kelly Just a sexy guy!
stoned or not - they are just crazy awesome performers on stage
Big time @@candicewitzkoske3155
there is a reason Ray Sawyer was considered the front man even if he didn't do all the singing. w/o Ray there would be no Dr. Hook. I could watch videos of these guys all day.
O think they all sang
@@debibrewster9080 yes they did but Dennis was their main singer. Part of why they spit up I believe because Ray was the most recognizable one and Dennis felt he didn't get the credit he deserved. I love them.
@@bethglenn8515 they were a hot mess. But they were good. Looked like they were having a lot of fun. I never got to see them, but I bet they were fun to see in person. They did all or part of at least one concert completely naked...never could tell what would happen. It's on CZcams. I'm not posting it
And w/o Dennis Lecorriere there would be no Dr Hook either.

I love the way they touch or look at each other as signals
They were so good together ..I miss them so much..😢😢😢
Love watching Dennis and Ray have fun on stage! RIP Ray! 💖💖💖
What I wouldn't give to have been around to see these guys in my 20s. It's just not the same anymore. Absolute talent, the best craic and makin the most of life! Proud to be named after one of their songs ❤️
How good your name isn't bullfrog. Sylvia is much better 😄
@@vogelfrau2425 it definitely could be worse 😂👌
Me too i.lovem
They might have appeared a complete shambles but musically they were outstanding...a truly great band.
Complete shambles? Pure excellence I see 🌈🎸✨
My thoughts exactly!!! Love them sooo much!!!
@@maraogden4647 He said 'appeared'. They looked like a bunch of stoned noobs. But their sound was impeccable.

@@donwayne1357
Atleast Dennis is clearly stoned beyond belief... But noobs, nahh.
Only reason they managed is because they are professionals. Noobs this drugged up would have made a mess of it.
A very funny and talented band of loveable hippies ! The connection between Ray and Dennis is undeniable. Every time they look at each other, they laugh. Watching Ray sashay and boogie across the stage a la Mick Jagger brings tears to my eyes. These guys epitomized COOL !! Thanks for the memories !
First 45 record I owned was Sylvia's Mother...years ago....haven't stopped listening 🎶 I Love this band and play On The Cover of the Rolling Stones ever day....Leslie
These guys had no fear of being different. Love them!
This is the kind of band that could only come from the U.S.. Better musicians than they get credit for, and really dedicated to having fun onstage while getting the audience to follow along. Thanks for posting
A truly one of a kind group of musicians and showman! RIP Ray, Billy, and John.
Everyone is gone now except Dennis, Rik and Wild Willard
And I like to mention Jance Garfat the Bassist too. 😢
Love their dancing & antics, so much fun to watch! 2020
Agree all was fun!!!
I agree! 5/11/2024 ❤❤❤❤
I can remember listening to this song one night on duty at fort Sam and loved it others looked at me like I was crazy like I say once a rocker always a rocker I'm 70 plus and still listen to all the great music back then I try not listen to music today all trash no meaning
My grandmother told me and .my brother of the magic soup stone...we are Cherokee Viking and Irish..i wonder lots time where story originally came from... thank you Ronja for adding this with Ray and Dennis songs ..im 78 and love them !!!❤
Cherokee Viking and Irish? And I'm an Apache Cossack and Congolese. With a hint of Druid

Probably the most underrated of all time! You want to talk about not giving a fuck. These boys were doing that before you were born! Such a great band!!
Shit you go through a war together getting your ass shot at???? Good reason not to give a shit here. Glad to see them enjoying themselves.

Celebrating Dad's birthday with this tonight.
Happy birthday, Dad -- William "Billy" Francis, Jr.
I'm chasing the dream just like you did.
He passed away on May 23, 2010. I found out that day at 9:30 AM.
Good luck and never give up on your dreams ❤️
Can I CHASE IT WHITH YOU ?????? I HAVE NOWHERE TO GO.? NEVER KNOWN ANYONE WORTH A CRAP . CAN I PLZ CHASE THE DREAM.???????????????? I WOULD LIKE TO BE SOMETHING BEFORE I DIE.!!!!! I DON'T HAVE LONG. PLZ FORGIVE ME & UNDERSTAND.
God bless you dad, Billy. Ray's there, too and I think where they are they're just fine.
Never give up!
I fell in love with this band when I was about 12 years old. My Dad brought their first record home just because of Silvia’s Mother. I made sure we bought everything they put out after that. They never disappointed me.
Epic performance! These guys knew how to rock !
Saw twice as a group amazing- seen Dennis a few years ago still amazing. Hope to see again if coming locally. My daughters grew up with me playing their music and will come with me if lucky enough to see Dennis again ❤
Soup stone is one of my favorites.
The Soup Stone has always been my FAVORITE of all of their favorites, lol. I know that I won't ever stop listening. Why is it that so many of us who grew up in the 70's seem to still be living there. I've liked a lot of bands/songs since then, but my love stays and my mind stays right there and then.
Who knew then this would remain (the) STORY of OUR ENTIRE BLESSED ALIVES
Talk to my husband,he agrees!
I agree with Tammy my husband is always telling me I can come out of the seventies now. No Thanks great music great time of my life. In my opinion one of the best cutest bands going. R I P Ray Billy and John I wish I could have seen them in concert meeting them would have been Awesome.
This deserves way way more views
This is fantastic, the undiluted joy of life and music is there. Sure their performance isn't technically together throughout the entirety of the performance but this is what live performance should be - random, fun and never too polished that's it's predictable. A gem - just like the musicians themselves.
I love this band so much, I grow up with them and there are real n there music and very good and funny, they make u happy, even now after all these years they videos r still great, thanks for there family and friends of them to have posted these great songs and Ray who is still alive and singing, I want to say we love you and keep on rocking and keep your band members memories alive, now showing all the kids now what r great music y'all made. RIP to them and to Ray keep on rocking and being happy and thank you for making us happy. Tina Hicks. Yes I got stoned, the good ol days , Thanks for that.
Tina Hicks they are more than a band but a part of our family and showed it time and time again
Was lucky enough to have seen them live. Their show was a nonstop party.
Six months later, I was born about 60 miles away, and I became a fan.
Truly a great band!!!
Holy SHIT!!! that must have been a hell of a show!!! would love to have been there...
This is nuts and I love it.
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve retyped this sentence seven times now…ffs. This band is unimaginably underrated, they crossed every style with ease.
When my dad dropped me off at my grandma's house we only had Lima beans and bread and ice tea and outside sulfur flow well. Douglas Connifff, and my Indian name is Searskee, or KING OF THE SEMINOLE
I know
ty so much for this posting... Ray and Dennis .. never saw this concert in full. AWESOME !!
Greatest band that ever!!!!! 🕺💃🎵🎼🎶🎤🎸
They have heart and magic I would give them what ever they need to hear more.
I miss Ray too much to even watch.
So wild and free. Love

Hi Marcus, greetings from Wilmington, North Carolina USA
I think this is the first time I've ever seen a complete band run across a stage in the raw.
@Veronica A. Well, good for you! You're honest !!! HAHAHA
One of my favorite Dr Hook songs.... His used to bring tears to my Dad's eyes when this song would play....
belljimette Reminds me so much of my mom who never had much but could always make us a soup god bless her and thanks Dr. Hook 🙏🏻❤️🇨🇦

One of a kind, brings me back
I wish I could have been there to see it live ,but I wasn't born til a year later, they were on one drinking on stage, high af but sang perfect none the less what an amazing collection of beautiful true talent.
Still the most entertaining show out there. Keeps you wondering who's gonna flip out next lol
Just like I imagined, They are all demented. That's why I love them.
They played two concerts in a row, I was at the first, I think this was the second. The good danish beers and excellent hash did put they marks on the band. Of course. Truly a freakers ball !! Dr.Hook & the Medicine Show & Shel Silverstein, what a team !! I'm happy to have been part of that time. :o)
Do you have an actual date of the show(s)? Just says 1974 above and broadcast on television in 1975. Thanks!
@@billmcclintock9826 No, I'm sorry, my memory isn't that good, too many beers and too many joints...
@@laberlaban Thank you anyway! I found a reference to this show taking place on 22 March 1974. Cannot find any info there were two shows that day/night other than in a comment here, so not sure about that.

🥀Amazing Song's I have them all albums and I'm from Atlanta, Ga. didn't stop me from buying your albums in fact I was living close to Stone Mountain, Ga. & most of my family and friends bought your albums I promise you that lmbo & so true so I know in the 70s your albums were sold in our store's.🥀✌🥀☝️🥀✌
Great upload, like all of yours, Ronja! Thanks a lot! This was a classic live performance of their best period. I saw them live on that tour in Vienna (1974) - my first rock concert, in fact. Brings back all those great memories!
I grew up listening to these guys. and yodel live is the best example of their energy
Pretty fancy footwork there. Thought I'd stumbled into the Holy Rollers Conversation
best band ever
Ah yayaya yeyeye these guys were awesome,,
Holy shomalamadingdong!!!! I always thought Dr. hook went from clean cut to shaggy! My mistake. It makes sense now that I see they went from late 60’s to 70’s. I’m so amazed they went from stoners to soft rock geniuses!!!! Lol
Like Joe cocker..
Yacht Rock Kings
Oh so sad that I had to see the comments on here to find out Ray has passed!!!! Have a pic of him from when I saw him live in a small bar hanging on my wall! Love this band!
I saw them live in 1976. I was 10 years old. My mother took me... Evansville Indiana.
My first concerts.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Started listening to these guys when I was a junior high but the music is undeniably some of the best of any genre or generation. I don't think they got the credit they deserved.
Люблю эту команду с тех пор, как впервые услышал. Без малого пол века. By Ray.
They are sure enough passionate about that soup stone as Dr Hook is about all their songs and their fans
I love this song, it reminds me of my childhood.
Love it
saw them on this tour amazing played well over 90 mins
best song ever
I grew up and I enjoyed everyone that songs my dad come in the room while we were listening to get my rocks off and he said I bet y'all don't even know what they think they saying or what that means
Lucky to have seen these wonderful showmen in there hay days in the mid 80's in summerville SC . Yes i do have a copy of the rollin stone with there picture on the cover ...
What a keepsake, Armond ! Hang onto it !!!
I remember my Granny used to say put another pea in the soup and we'll have broth. She used bake scones on Griddle on the fire. That was the 60s, people have forgotten how to cook something out next to nothing. A different generation, broke the mould when they left us.
Ray lived through the depression as a child. Lord love him he knew what he was singing about.
What a great Liveband. Wish i would have visited their gigs.
In 1991, Ray Sawyer told that Dr. Hook had always had a special relationship with Denmark and Norway; They broke through in Scandinavia before they became known in the USA, probably because their humor suited the Danish and Norwegian mentality better than the American in the 1970s.
As real as it gets.
Love yall still in 2024
1970 i think.Auckland Town Hall. New Zealand. Best concert was my first live band. Fun and good times.
Seen these guys 3 times...never a disappointment
🥀Beautiful🥀These Guy's are Amazing and this is the way I remember them in Concert in Atlanta Ga in the 70s I had so much fun all of there energy flowing through through there performance!🥀✌🥀☝️
Saw them live at "Great Adventure" in NJ in the ;ate 70s.
They were awesome. Wish they had (A):Never cut their hair and 'cleaned up, as they was the beginning of their disco phase, and (B) never broke up. Wish theyd have worked out their differences, OR, reformed while the rest were alive.
Just a great band, and one prime example of what great, unprocessed, 'real' music can be. I wish music would take a turn towards this again, instead of "Auto Tune" and drum machines. I cant think of one album (CD) by one band or performer that you can play, start to finish, like with Dr Hook, Led Zeppelin, ect anymore.that has good songs start to finish. Now, its all about getting one 'hit' song, slapping it on a CD, and everybody is happy. I think music has sucked since the 80s, with a few exceptions (Soundgarden, Nirvana, maybe a couple others who sounded 'different than everything else' at the time)...just my opinion....
we were at that show. The drummer was sitting on a round pillow. Wht a great show.
Great adventure whatta memory there,my uncle worked there we had ton summer fun there..runaway train...spine still hurts..
They had moves,music,voice,humor
What more da ya need?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICK!!!

Einfach nur genial, viele der Texte kann ich im täglichen Leben zitieren und in vielen Situationen denke ich an ein Lied von "Dr. Hook And The Medicine Show .... . "I was stoned and I missed it". Ein Lebensmotto.!!
