Bro delaying it would be DISASTROUS for them. Considering they sold Alpha 2 access with packs costing a few hundred $$, and closed the sales off after announcing a release date, which very clearly was to push people to buy them coz' of FOMO. They're better off releasing Alpha 2 in whatever state they can release it in. Then continue working on it. At least that can be justified as it being withing the parameters of an Alpha 2 (which is okay).
oh i would love aoc to have some vista system like gw2. i find it really fun to just explore the world of gw2 even though its normally not so much my thing.
I remember when I played Crowfall, in the short window between the full release and when it was taken offline, a very small time streamer who was sponsored to play the game on stream reached out to the community to ask for assistance to make content and discover the game. He joined the GvG campaign, our guild took him for a siege, we geared him, we made him experience the pvp, he fired siege weapons, we captured a keep, etc... He had a blast. Meanwhile, Lazy Peon lived up to his name, logged in solo on the australian tutorial server, and complained there was no large scale PvP going on, and he only had negative things to point out. And don't get me wrong, there were a lot of bad things to point out about that game, but the absolute lack of effort to even try to experience what the game was about to conclude 'just go play GW2' made me lose any respect for his opinions.
I don't think Ashes is the "Last" hope for MMO's but I do think it's one of the strongest ones we currently have eyes on. I think huge changes are currently being made in the tech industry with AI progressing as fast as it is and Star Citizen of all places figuring out how to mesh servers seamlessly and visibly while playing and without a loading screen... that's going to bring a whole new level to gaming once those techniques and tools are fleshed out and utilized to their fullest.

I doubt balance is a concern right now. The reason for PIs, would be to test something on which a lot of functionality depends, some sort of base class which is going to be replicated and inherited by a lot of other functions in Alpha2 and if it was bugged would cause a lot more rework going back and changing it. May be something like spawning of mobs and resources, or node promotion/relegation. If that didn't work and they had to add code to every mob or resource spawn logic, or every node feature that upgrades/degrades, then that would be a big deal. A quick test now, could save weeks if they don't discover it until Alpha2. And I don't think it will get delayed. I agree with you. I think they are already well ahead of what they need to test Alpha 2. If anything, they may need to bring it forward. Edit: Don't measure progress towards Alpha2 by project width (or even quality to a reasonable degree), progress to Alpha2 is all about project height.

My question is. Has Intrepid considered releasing some content as expansion content? I’m worried that the ambition of the game will lead it down a Star Citizen path. I absolutely love everything Intrepid is doing but my brain is having a hard time wrestling the idea of them interweaving alllll their ideas into a final product within 5 years or so. Personally I’d like to see a polished product with minimal content out the gate. Really make sure that the systems are working well then add on more down the line. Example. Do they really need all weapon types, 64 classes, and naval combat released all at the same time? If the game takes another 10 years with everything they promised, then that’s it? Say you spend 1-2 years really getting the game down. You’ve done everything you wanted to do. What’s next? I just don’t want to spend 3hours cooking a meal only to eat it in 5 minutes.

Yeah that's because they always bypass crafting with better rewards from raids and whatnot. If Ashes stays true to itself, crafting will be the only way to get the best gear.

I really hope they speed things up, at the current pace some other mmo's in the making has the potential to overshadow and release with the next great feature.
I like the fact they're working on spell effects (the ball lightning got changed a bit, not enough imo) but 9:55 - 10:05 looks bad, theres too much going on, and the effects seem very low quality if I'm honest. The warrior looks cool, best so far - but the effects surrounding every move are too much for a melee class: I think they should be minimized with a banging effects for the most impactfull skills. The spikes are bad, at times it looks like the effects are from a different game to the World - feels disjointed. There are too many small particles flying around, what for? Clatters up the screen, and doesn't make the World look any better. When it comes to risk in MMO's... you have to keep in mind how long it takes to get certain items in these games. You run a huge risk of putting people off if they loose the shit they grinded for for weeks etc. some risk is cool but maybe implementy some kind of system to minimize risk like "blessings" if you have 5 blessings after completing a quest chain for 5 priests or something you minimize the risk of loosing your gear, upon death you loose your blessings and have to make your way around to those "priests" paying them a large sum to be blessed again. Making death punishing in more ways then one would be cool. (this is an idea taken from an old mmo game called Tibia, pvp was extremelly punishing in that game, you drop your gear unless you have those blessings, then you would loose some exp. - which was punishing enough bearing in mind how loing it took to level in that game.) I'm desperate for an MMO with rewarding questlines and chase items like skins, mounts, gear, whatever... just don't put it all on the shop. I want to show off how much of my life I've wasted playing this game with some pixels. Even like an "imbue" effect on your weapon. Just make the game cool man and fix the spell effects abeg

I'll stay subbed, but I will 100% be going dark, for the reasons you stated - You can only experience the first time, once. And Ive been waiting far too long to have that spoiled. I also think Peon knows he has a pretty large reach for the more casual viewers and is watching his words lol. Any negativity could have a large effect on people who follow it more casually and already have low confidence in it. My entire friend group thinks the game is a scam and refuse to give it the light of day. They'll play it if its released, but they think its another star citizen.

totally agree. I think the only MMOs I have more faith in than AoC are WOW, GW2, FFXIV, OSRS, RS3, ESO, BDO, Wizard101, New World, and SWTOR.
