@@thosesiblingss The way I look at this is that the Palestinians are at fault for any deaths of innocents. There is talk of a desire for a cease fire, but the Palestinians obviously didn't want that because they HAD a cease fire prior to October 7th, 2023. The only reason there are cries for the fighting to stop is because Hamas is losing. I read about the history of the Yom Kippur War. For those who don't know, in the Yom Kippur War Israel was simultaneously surprise attacked by Egypt and Syria. Israel was losing, and not a peep out of the UN. It's only when Israel recovered from the shock and started winning the that halls of the UN echoed with cries for the fighting to stop. If Israel had never started to win in that war the halls of the UN would've remained quiet enough for a pin to drop. This, in a nutshell, shows how corrupt the UN is and it is every bit as corrupt now.
I'm just sorry that our President Biden isn't supporting Israel as he should. If Trump were still in the White House this would not be happening because it was well known that he supported Israel, and similarly the Russian attack of Ukraine would not have occurred.

I'm writing this comment before watching the whole video - this is in direct response to your segment talking about the IDF and your connection to them.
I'm a US Army Infantryman veteran, I've fought overseas against multiple terrorist organizations. I'm also an atheist.
That being said, I recall many years ago while I was in Basic Combat Training we had religious services for all of the main religions in the world and I decided to open myself up and attend each of them. I was raised Christian and have been to church before so I started there. Nothing out of the ordinary, everything I've experienced before. Next I attended Muslim services and experienced something new entirely, but it felt very Americanized - it was a good experience all the same. Lastly I attended Jewish services and the experience of their hospitality left me shocked. I distinctly remember the Rabbi saying he did not care whether we were all believers in the faith, that all were welcome to attend. And beyond the words themselves, his actions proved he meant it. They brought us outside after prayer, which was done entirely in Hebrew - a language I had not even heard before at the time. Once outside we were served bagels and lemonade. This blew my mind, as food outside of our strictly regimented Chow time felt like breaking the law. We all spoke amongst ourselves in small groups enjoying the sun on our shoulders and the refreshments. It was the first moment I felt at ease in months of hardships. I will never forget that day.
I continued attending Jewish services in Basic from then on, thankful for the extra calories at first, but learned a great deal from the lessons provided not just in faith but in the faith of others. It truly opened my eyes to the possibility of coexistence with people that may not share the same ideals, and I hope one day the rest of the world can learn this lesson too.

A company can be headed by a Captain or a 1st Lieutenant. These guys are paratroopers. They were dropped BEHIND the beaches the night before the invasion at Normandy--they did not land on the beaches. Yes--this is the famous "D-Day." June 6, 1944.

That's not as much of a problem when you're just training soldiers physically, but in the field unpredictable things happen. When something unexpected happens, and a decision has to be made, he needs to be good at improvising, and that's just not who he is.

    Greetings from Germany!
This is a great show and I love to see your take on it. Interesting, you immediately picked up on Sobels deliberately harsh actions as training instead of cruelty.
Also, I love the way, the colonel handled the situation when the soldiers refused to serve under Sobel. An incompetent bureaucrat would have let them be shot and moved on. He realized, there was something wrong, but still acknowledged Sobels quality, so he allocated the resources perfectly.
This show shows (no style points there...) many facets of war, it is mainly about relationships within the military and could be (almost) used in any conflict, so you don't need to learn specific details of the western theatre of WW2 to understand it.
With regards to the conflict, I understand why you do what you do (by "you", I obviously don't mean you two, but the country). It is sad, but after the 7th of october there needs to be a drastic countermeasure. Otherwise, it is a blueprint for them to do it again. Asymmetric warfare is a nightmare for any army adhering to war conventions (other armies just indiscriminately kill and eradicate any opposition) and I don't envy your military especially not when there is so much pressure to be extra careful.

Nice to see more young folks (I'm far from young) reacting to this series. The only time I'll comment on your personal situation is to say I wish you safety and peace. The dichotomy of salutes: after getting reamed by Col. Sink, the Easy Company non-coms file past Winters giving him a respectful salute. After getting reassigned to Chilton-Foliat, Sobel ignores the salute from Winters. Sobel was a great trainer. He was also a petty martinet. Winters was a great leader.

Saving Private Ryan is based on the naval portion of the Normandy invasion. There were three US beaches, one Canadian and one British. That movie focused on the beach code named Omaha. The airborne part of the invasion includes the US 82nd and 101st airborne division and the 6th British airborne division. It provided a foothold for the Western allies to defeat the Germans in Europe and take the pressure off the Soviets in the Eastern front.

      @SherynRouf Před měsícem

Israel OCCUPIED Palestine (thanks to Balfour declaration) BEFORE Hamas even came into power in the 1980s. When you occupy a Palestinian population by stealing their land, taking control and indiscriminately killing their people INCLUDING CHILDREN, you will NOT be seen as the victim. The Israeli victim mentality is nonsensical and the most dangerous mentality on this planet! Hamas has done terrible things no one can excuse this but this goes way back than October 7th. If you make a population suffer so much by killing off their people, of course those people will want to resist you. That doesn't mean it's okay, it means that war only brings more war. Free Palestine all the way.

I appreciate your interjection to explain your relationship to those who have and do serve in the IDF and especially those related to you. I suspect this series will hit hard with you all, but am a newcomer to the channel, and am basing that only on the intro. I stumbled on your channel just today but am looking forward to seeing your reactions to this series. At times it's rough, but it is a great series that does a wonderful job of expressing what occurred. The older men in the intros were men who served in the company. There is a bit of Hollywood in the series, but it does a good job of sticking to actual history as best as it can. IDK if you all have seen Saving Private Ryan, but that may be the beach invasion scene you all were thinking of and mentioned during the review. I highly recommend that movie as well if you all haven't seen it. It predated this series, but involved a lot of the same people from the movie in this production. It has the most accurate depiction of the invasion of Normandy beach ever filmed. Love the reaction, subscribed, and looking forward to more. I was typing this up as you all mentioned at the end you all were aware of Saving Private Ryan, but haven't seen it. I still highly recommend it. Excellent content so far.

I've watched some of your reactions before, and I love band of brothers so I will watch along. I wanted to comment to say I appreciate your honest and firm stance on the war going on now. I'm not Israeli, I'm Irish, and I've watched most of my life how this conflict is covered and it is unlike any other in the world. When it is israel, there is an impossible standard being demanded. The war is treated as if every single civilian casualty is a war crime, and it is intentional, and it is always because of israel. So if Hamas, or PIJ, fire thousands of rockets at israel, and a non-trivial chunk of them fall from the sky and land on gaza... israel is still blamed for the casualties and destruction they cause. It is absolutely ridiculous. The death toll being spread is also coming directly from Hamas, and is counted as if it is all civilians, and doesn't contain around ~15000 combatant/ terrorist casualties. And much of the world just runs with it. Nobody else is treated like this.
The truth is the civilian death toll in Gaza is unprecedented... in that the ratio is so low as to be an historic low. Yet people use the "G" word to describe that. What kind of genocidal force deliberately moves civilians out of the way of its fire?
Worse is how Israel's technological superiority is used against it. Iran fires scores of ballistic missiles at Israel, and all but a few are intercepted and destroyed. Then, it is demanded Israel does not retaliate. Imagine if a man tried to break into your house to murder your family but he can't get in because of your security system... and then you are told "leave him alone, he couldn't get to your children to kill them so let it go!!". That's what is expected of israel.. if someone tries to murder Israelis and is prevented from doing so, then it seems to erase their intent and attempt and israel is supposed to just let it go. What an absolute crock of shit. No other country on earth is expected to be so masochistic.
I could go on and on and on but I should stop here lol. I hope Israel destroys the elements that want to destroy it, because the truth is that's the only path to peace. Everything else is bullshit.
Thanks again for your uncompromising position!.

Your comments up front were very courageous and will no doubt subject you to some terrible comments. I am not Jewish but fully support Israel's right to defend itself and its people. War is terrible and will always kill civilians on both sides of it. This will never change. Sadly, sometimes it is necessary. I love this series. I will only caution you that Episode 9 will be terribly difficult for you as Jews. I have never seen anyone react to it and not weep.
@23:40 The NCOs (non-commissioned officers) didn't quit. They can't actually quit after enlisting. But they did give up their positions as Sergeants and Corporals in the Company and reverted (at least temporarily) back to being privates. They gave up their additional pay as NCOs to send a message to the Major about their lack of faith in the leadership of Sobel. A message he thankfully clearly received.
@27:20 Normandy is synonymous with the D-Day landings of the Allied Forces at the beaches in France at Normandy. However, since the soldiers you follow in this series are Airborne troops, they don't participate in beach landings and are instead are airdropped further inland behind German troops securing the beaches. It is all happening on the same day and is the start of the offensive that eventually pushed German troops all the way back to Berlin.

I don’t think you need to know WWII history in great detail, although you will recognize a lot of the battles that Easy Company engages in if you do know some basic history. A lot of the battles that Easy engages in during this series are well known battles, such as Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. This is such a well made series, I’m sure you’ll be glad you watched it.

The thing with Colonel Sink reassigning Sobel, Robert Sink was a professional soldier. He had to maintain the appearance of military discipline, but he also knew that he could not ignore the opinion of the E Company senior enlisted men. So he demoted a few and transferred them (likely with recommendations to their new COs to reinstate their former rank when they got the new units) And then reassigned Sobel to an out-of-the-way training school.

17:48 added context for this. Jews, Italians, Irish, etc from places like New York, Chicago, big cities, did not get along at all. Just your typical city race on race nonsense. Reminds me of a scene from a movie from 1943 Gung Ho about a marine unit. An italian is talking about how he got so good at running because he took short cuts through an irish part of town and he had to dodge a lot of bricks and such being thrown at him.

The numbers vary, but these companies are roughly 165 people, split into 3 platoons plus a command component. Each platoon has three squads with a sergeant in command and the platoon is led by a lieutenant. The company commander is normally a captain who has a Master Sergeant designated "company 1st Sergeant" as his liaison to the Company. Easy company was one of nine companies in the 2nd battalion, normally commanded by a major, of the 506th regiment commanded by Colonel Cink. Which is why it was known by his men as the "5 0 Cink." Divisions, battalions, regiments, companies and platoons all vary in number depending service branch, and jobs within those branches. That's the simple version and enough for you guys to understand the power structure at play here.
