Here's How The Wealthiest People In Florida Live
Vložit

- Wow! Many of these homes are second and third homes. Talk about WEALTH!
Every time a billionaire spends $1,000, that’s like you spending $1. So that last minute pair of shoes you threw in your cart at Target? That would be like a billionaire dropping $50k on a last-minute brand new car.
That’s how things are in a place like this. I don’t know if the people who live here are nice or if where they came from. But I know they have lots of money.
Welcome to Palm Beach, Florida. The playground of the rich and the elite. Paradise island. The Gold Coast. Whatever you call it - this community is really just a narrow stretch of land off the coast of Florida. Across the bridge is West Palm Beach. It’s just a short drive north of Miami.
There are just over 8,000 residents in Palm Beach, although many don’t live here year round. Most of them are millionaires of some sort. You can’t afford it.
Right now, we’re driving around on the island’s north end, which is generally considered to be the most exclusive part of Palm Beach, although there are exceptions.
We’re going to drive around Palm Beach for a bit and ohh and aww at the giant homes and the amenities here, and talk about who these people are and what in the hell they do for a living. I’ve been to a lot of fancy areas in my day, and I don’t think I’ve seen a place that’s quite like it.
I wish we could see beyond all these hedges, but of course - that’s the point - to wall themselves off from the rest of us. As we drive around, we’ll catch glimpses of the opulence here. I did my best to capture the essence of the place while being surrounded by walls and walls of greenery.
Clearly, these people have had success in whatever venture they pursued. The average cost of a home here is more than two million dollars. Technically, that makes Palm Beach the 4th most expensive zip code in the United States. And even though these average houses we’re looking at right now are worth 2 or 3 million bucks, there are mansions here worth more than fifty million. One sold for $125 million not too long ago.
It’s really neat here, huh? It’s like this every street you turn down on the north end of Palm Beach. Miles and miles of it. Oddly, or not - every street looks the exact same. It’s an endless labyrinth of perfect hedges and tile.
Everywhere you turn in this place, it just screams money. All over are gated mansions, elite clubs, high end shopping, equestrian grounds, polo grounds, yachts, sports cars, you name it they have it.
And for many people here, this is just their second home. A lot of these houses we’re lookin at are locked up for the summer, hurricane shutters and all.

FYI. Re Mar a Largo, when Trump created the social club there, it was the first club in Palm Beach to open to Blacks and Jews. To enter, you only needed to pay the fee, so was based on merit. All the other clubs discriminated.

In your opening shot as you pan the beach and follow the road turning left, the grey house with the mansard roof (to your immediate right) was the home of Este Lauder. At 7:37 that was John Lennon's mansion now owned by author James Patterson. John and Yoko Ono used to frequently have lunch at Taboo on Worth Avenue.
I liked the Taboo
Yes, I remember seeing John Lennon's sprawling house like off a main street!
Is that the John Lennon who wrote the song about imagining a world without religion or possessions ? Is that the same John Lennon or another one ?
My favorite clothing brand, Lilly Pulitzer, was founded in West Palm Beach in 1959! You drove past the original storefront right there on Worth Avenue : )

Interesting time. The wealthy were definitely in their own world and cherished being catered to.
Then some were so down to earth, one would never think they were wealthy.

I have been to Palm Beach twice. Once I drove a CRV and stayed the day. Second time I went there a year later, I parked in West Palm Beach and rode a folding bicycle all over the place. It was a blast to experience the contrast of wealth. During the day an army goes up there and works at various businesses and lawn care. Usually mid morning you can hear the equipment used in lawn care. Ironically I was always treated nice, and I never had a problem with the Police. If you're middle class and want to go to the beach in Florida, Lido Beach / St. Armands Circle, or Clearwater / Pinellas County beaches is probably a more affordable destination with tons of places to eat and things to do. There is a Starbucks on Worth Avenue, and the Publix is the only one I have ever seen where there is no big green P / Publix name on the front. Ironically on Ocean Boulevard there is a clock tower that is the beginning of Worth Avenue.
The sound of landscaping equipment going off 24/7.
As someone who grew up in Palm Beach County, FL, I find this interesting. I've been to Palm Beach a few times. If you don't live there or you don't ride around in a "Palm Beach" car, you'll stand out like a sore thumb. It is nice, calm, quiet and peaceful.
I’ve even been in Mar a largo 😂
When my daughter went to high school several years ago. She’s 30 now. Her high school chorus performed there one Christmas. Golden toilets exist!
Another great video, Nick. We have a family friend who lives in that area. She invited us to an event at the country club. Never before in my life have I witnessed such extravagance. As part of the dessert course, there was some item which was served in a glass. There was some sort of brown goo between the bottom of the glass and the plate, which appeared to be used to hold the glass in place and ensure that it would not tip over. My curiosity got the best of me, and I removed the glass from the plate to see what the goo was. I discovered that it smelled like chocolate. So I ate it. That was surely a sign of how lacking in class I was, but honestly, I've never liked wasting food, and it certainly seemed edible. Each guest at that function was given a goodie bag which included, among a bunch of nice things, a bottle of prosecco. Between that meal and the meal we had a day or two later at the yacht club, I began to feel sick. It was simply too much very rich food. It seems my body could not tolerate such a lifestyle. Those bridges between Palm Beach and West Palm Beach are there to maintain the segregation between the super rich and the others. Actually, I found much of coastal West Palm Beach to be very nice, too. It's just inland where we saw the abject poverty it sounds like you will address in your next video. The sock story, I think, really exemplifies just how insulated the people of Palm Beach are from the outside world. It's kind of sad, really. They may be safe there, but they're holed up there and can't go very far from their homes without feeling threatened. Oh, and one year, the Koch family sponsored the New Year's fireworks display there!
Matt you're a real treat! And I would've eaten the goo too!
Sharing your epic story, especially the dessert goo, really made my day! My stomach hurt and eyes tearing from laughing so hard! A 'I Love Lucy' moment! But yes, I agree with how sad and pathetic it is how wrapped up in a bubble these socialite people are, most of them anyway, having to 'keep up with the Joneses.' Beautiful to look at and 'Oooh and Aaah' but remember, 'not all it's cracked up to be.'
Wow this is super nice Nick. Thanks for sharing. Awsome video
We drove all over Florida a few yrs ago looking for a good city, close to the ocean, to retire to. All our grown children wanted to make the move w us. We went all he way down the East coast of Florida, but wasn’t so crazy about the beaches and sand, so we came across to the gulf side. The water and beaches seem so much prettier to me. Below Tampa and going south of there, he sand is whiter and much finer. Some areas feel like powder on your feet ! We r a few mins from Anna Maria Island and it’s just beautiful around the island
My favorite area in FL!!! I lived 30 years in central Florida and Anna Maria Island was my favorite place to go to!
I live on the gulf coast of Florida, I recommend Siesta Key for the incredible sugar sand beaches and it's beauty 💖
Very Entertaining Video, Florida is great to look at, but I've never been there before, I get that most Inlanders travel all around like a fancy carousel though, makes it kinda fun to want to drive around a lot of the scenic routes around there. Nice blend of everything.
I’m a lowly gardener, but I’ve had the opportunity to work in some of gardens on Palm Beach. Wonderful people and amazing flora. ✌🏼❤️

1. Palm Beach (“the Island”, not to be confused with West Palm Beach).

I do a lot of wood flooring work on the Island, actually used to refinish all the dance floors at Mar-a-lago. There is a road that was cut straight through the old coral rock that's called "Witches Wall" on one side of the wall is a big caged culvert and above it is a mansion that is called the "Mad Scientist" house, well if you go to the grate late at night you can hear very faint and weird cries and screams.

I grew up just south of Palm Beach in Broward Co. and me and my friends would drive up coast to surf different spots. It was always beautiful and this is where everyone dreams of living. I can’t imagine anyone saying no to living in this community. This is a American Dream Location. Other states in the USA have places like this, NYC has Manhattan, LA has Beverly Hills, and these are only a few to name. Florida has Palm Beach and Star Island. Now I know I will never see you shoot Star Island in Miami due to there is a gate at the bridge entrance where you’ll be told to turn around and exit, lmao. Palm Beach and West Palm Beach are like the 1974 movie *"Zardoz"* except now the Eternals are corporations.
Palm Beach got its name from the 1878 ship wreck of the Providencia and its 20,000 coconut cargo. Now the Sabal Palmetto is on the state seal. Later Henry Flager and John D. Rockefeller, railroad tycoons, build up the eastern coastline of Florida.
Wayback first time crossing the Lakeview bridge driver say the yachts below were one million dollars. Thought that was very cheap until he added one million dollars a year just to maintain them.
