- HOG = Heart of Georgia Railroad, now under the G&W umbrella, is a vital shortline operating in Central Georgia. On this beautiful last day of January, the rail show during my short visit in Cordele, GA was opened by a HOG manifest, followed by a parade of CSX and Norfolk Southern trains, and concluded by HOG. Enjoy this video with rail action from an awesome railfanning location in the "Heart of Georgia" - the famous Cordele Diamonds. It's not only fun to watch, but also to listen as every train creates its own sound while passing the multiple crossings.
Note: This video has been recorded and produced in 4k Ultra-HD resolution.

great video loved it
Thank you!
Lots of train action there, awesome video
Thanks! It's a good place to watch trains - actually one of my favorite locations in Georgia.
You have a knack for good spots. Very nice video!
Thank you! Well, Cordele is rather simple in this regard as one only needs to stay close to the diamonds to get all the action.
As usual, a fantastic video
Many thanks!
Awesome video brother
Many thanks!
great video
Thanks!
never hard of HOG befor interesting great video
It's a shortline. We've got several in Georgia and I don't know all of them.
mbmars01 we don't got any here in Indiana i would love to go there whatch them and trains
Excellent video. Love watching your videos.
Many thanks.
I had a visit to Athens, Ga. about 15 years ago. I went to fly on a powered parachute with a guy named Bear Perkins. I am now a pilot with my own plane, but that first flight was one of the best. Beautiful place. I sometimes fly to the side of the tracks when the trains are stopped to look. Thanks for posting the vid's.
Very cool. It must be a special experience to watch trains from this perspective. The CSX Abbeville Sub near Athens, GA is indeed very nice. That's my usual railfanning ground.
i agree super video as always. I was snowed in Wednesday so I watched this on my TV I loved watching on a big screen. The blast look kind of shaky the way it bounced up and down. Trains made quit a sound going over the different diamonds. Thanks again MBMARS 01 much appreciated
Thanks! Good you liked it!
Great place to catch rail action! I worked in both Macon and Cordele in the middle of the last decade, and camped out often at the crossings. I remember one really surly conductor that worked for HOG who didn't take kindly to me shooting pictures there, even though I was well off RR property. He growled, but I just smiled, waves and kept on shooting. Nothing he could do. Apart from old Smiley, it was a blast each time.
Some are quite relaxed, others don't like to be watched while working. I think that's okay.
Awesome vid MB! You even provided the popcorn (poprock) shot for our enjoyment. Your camera movements and editing makes the difference. Thanks!
Many thanks. I'm glad you appreciate the extra (time-consuming) effort.
mbmars is alive!!!! Welcome back with the best vids
Lol, yeah quite a bit still... Sounds like you enjoyed this video as well. Cool.
Another great video, thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Excellent videos mbmars!! Love the leslie S5T & RS3L on the HOG!
Awesome, glad you like it!
19:03 and 25:21 Sd60! yay
mbmars01. Great video. Love the shot of the dancing rocks. Haven't seen that for a while. Keep them coming.
Thank you! Watching these rocks is really fun.
I love that CSX is starting back up the DPU program
Absolutely!
Another great video-you're really capturing the engine roar lately!
Thanks! I agree, all sounds were captured really well.
A train had derailed again in Auburn today
That's bad...
Or maybe there’s a collision in Cayce on February 4th…
I’ve never seen where the ballast bounces up and down, cool vid thanks for sharing your view :-))
Yea that looks interesting. Many thanks!
mbmars01 you’re very welcome !
My 👍 like button keeps going off so I had to repush it, it happens all the time, at least I go back and hit it again
Four days later, there would be a major collision in Cayce, South Carolina, right?
Cordele is a neat spot. I love the rhythm of the three sets of diamonds when you get a CSX crossing at speed. I'll always remember me and my father were out there one night and an old man came walking by. He said, ''They payin' you to watch them trains? There sure are a lot of 'em!'' He came back by later with a grocery bag in his hand and said again, ''I know they payin' you to watch them trains.'' Me and my father always have a laugh every time we think about that.
Lol, that's a funny story. One would think that people in Cordele should be used to railfans...
Nice!!! Some really interesting looking motor power. Some great track shots too. Thanks for sharing. 🚂
Thank you for watching!
That was an awesome video bro! I can't wait until you release another video.
Thanks! Good you enjoyed watching the video. I'll see what I can do :)
mbmars01 thanks man I did miss all your videos though.
mbmars01 and still do.
Glad you were able to make a return to cordele, I guess the platform never worked out, also, love the RS5T horn on 1540
Even if the platform is coming, it will be too far away from the diamonds. I know, the horn sounded great.
ouch, did you have to get permission to film where that old crossing was or was it public land ?
Super video
Thank you :)
Nice Video love watching your video
Cool, that's awesome!
I really liked the trains coming around the curve on the CSX Fitzgerald Sub. Nice camera angle!
It's an interesting spot, for sure. Thanks!
Great video and catches.
Great, thank you!
Always nice to see G&W subsidiary loco's in their original livery instead of those orange and yellow uniforms. Great catches!
I agree. Thanks!
awesome video and catches.
Cool, many thanks!
your welcome sir.
Awesome video I often wondered what was the other rail line line besides CSX at the Cordele Diamond.... now I know well done mbmars01!
Thank you, appreciated!
Nice video!
Thanks!
Cool catches! I just caught 8102!!!
Very cool! I like the Pennsy.
But they don't have CSX AC44ACs. Engine #534 is an AC44CW.
Right, must be a typo.
Very cool video, looks like the diamond needs a little work.also one of the ties needs some spikes.enjoyed the show!! Great work!
Thank you! I know, it looks like nothing has really changed since my last visit.
Very nice video thank you for sharing. Jac
Thanks!
Greatest
Cool, thanks!
Great trainspotting footage! Big like and i subscribed to your channel 😊👍🏽
Greetings from Finland,
Juha
That's awesome. Many thanks!
Awesome Catches!
Thanks!
Well it's a good thing you caught 510&1540 both are gone now the 510 went to Georgia Central and 1540&1740 were traded to MEI for the 2124&2125 two ex-southern GP38-2S.
I heard of recent changes on this line. It's kinda unfortunate that these two are gone.
Great trains. I just want to make a house out of that water tower, and watch these trains all day.
That's a good idea lol
I know it's very busy there, but how many trains come through there in a day.
It sure is rare to see searchlight signals anymore. Wonder how much longer they are going to last?
35:48 Nice to see an old "Atlanta & Saint Andrews Bay" geep out doing some honest work.
WOW--recent!
The city of Cordele recently open a new railfan park with viewing stand and facilities adjacent to the diamonds. Perhaps a return visit is in order?
I remember there was talking about the viewing platform, but I haven't been there in a while. Going back would be nice, but Cordele is 3 hours from where I live and CSX/NS traffic isn't anymore what it once was.
@@mbmars01 They claim there's 80 trains a day, which seems excessive, but even a 1/4 of that would be worth a look. I just thought I'd bring it up because you're the one who put Cordele on the map for me in the first place. I mean, I live in California. Duh fu@k I know about Georgia? lol
I hope you and yours are doing well. It's been awhile, but I haven't forgot about you.
Neither did I, but I always thought you lived in Chicago lol :) Thanks, I'm good. I hope you're fine, too!
@@mbmars01 I grew up in Chicago. lol
Man I miss The Bay Line #510 GP38-2 locomotive back here in Panama City, FL. (35:00)
awesome vid again - thank you! I seem to notice a few engines used many times on many trains in your locale (NS1032 and 1031 for ex). Do you tend to notice that too?
Thanks! Yes, it certainly happens that the same engines re-appear in the videos as some of them stay in the greater for some time, but I did not actually notice it. I don't keep track of the engines I saw.
I'm from Panama City Fl and I been a huge fan of Bay Line railroad for years and I hated how most of the engines are gone that had the green and yellow paint. However I don't know if they still have the #510 and #509 in their roster. I really would hate it if they got rid one of the best locomotive they had in their roster.
You lucky duck, at 35:10 you caught the old livery of the Bay Line Locomotives. I dont see any more of those at their main yard.
I was aware that this was a lucky catch. As it seems, it is not even in HOG's service anymore.
It's on Georgia Central.
I've enjoyed your videos for quite some time now, excellent content and some obvious effort into its production. But I've been wondering...what's with the very quick fades in the video as the engines go by?
If you mean by fading the loss of auto focus - well that's probably a sign that the camcorder is getting old. It's annoying at times, but I'll soon have a new one and then it should be better again (hopefully).
Okay I see what you mean, I didn't even think of that.
Long Time No See
Yep, but all the good things take their time ;-)
Yeah Thanks For Forgiving Me, I Really Appreciate It
Lol, you didn't do anything I had to forgive.
Ok, Thanks Buddy 😀😀😀
Definitely enjoyed this one. I was wondering, from the time you decide what you are going to shoot, pick a day to do the shoot, go and do the video recording, come back and do the editing, how long does it take on average to do all of this? Keep up the good work.
I was on a trip to Florida (not railfanning-related) and stopped over in Cordele. I had about 4 hours around midday. I had been in Cordele before and knew it wouldn't disappoint. The editing took about 8 hours or so, distributed over 4 days (it's a relatively long video). Yep, it's quite an effort and that's why I'm very happy if people like you are interested in the material and enjoy watching the vids!
mbmars01 just keep them coming.
But Hi Mb
me recuerda cuando solía comer frijoles con leche cuando era niño
¿Significa que te gustó? ;-)
I have a question when these Union pacific trains come through this area, are the train crews Union Pacific or others?
The train crews typically are from the railroad that operates the track.
Hello mr mars great videos as well I have some questions about the models in the video?1 What Does HOG and BAYL stand for?2 In what year were the HOG and BAYL first produced if I may ask?3 Are they just local engines? or Are they used just like regular engines are for long distances? and also to Are they old engines or new engines? because I have never seen them before.thanks for your time as always in answering my questions and have a great day
Thanks for your questions. HOG stands for "Heart of Georgia Railroad" and BAYL for "Bay Line Railroad", which are both shortlines in central/south GA. The engines are about 50 years old.
you welcome and thank you for responding to my questions because when I was thinking the bay line engine I was thinking the engine originated from somewhere in Florida I just don't see them engines around Columbus GA
Bayline railroad originates out of Panama City, FL.

Yes. I see them all the time here in Georgia.
Lots of train action there, awesome video

Thank you!
