No customization in a looter shooter. Gotta agree, I don’t like that either

im trying it out now. I will be shocked if this game makes it a year. I was looking forward to this game as I always enjoy a new grindy game to sink my teeth into, but man this is dull. Gameplay is pretty bare bones. Animations and feedback on abbilities is meh (at least on the ice character). Lots of typos, translation erros, UI errors, etc that lead to the game feeling rushed/cheap, and a predatory cash shop (which tbf is expected in a f2p game). Overall, I dont see much to keep me interested over say destiny or warframe etc. Its not bad, its just super mid. And with the level of competition competing for our timne these days, especially in the live service space, mid is just not good enough.
People saying you cant judge the game until end game are only half right. Ive seen enough in the first 5 hours or so to tell that the things i mentioned above are not up to par. That wont be improved by reaching end game. If the core aspects of the game are mid, youre building on shakey foundations. And I dont believe the "it gets so good after 200hrs" argument. Why wouldnt I just play a game thats amazing from hour 1?
Either way, disappointed overall but not entirely unsurprised. Who knows maybe in a year the game will have been overhauled and play a lot better. Ill keep an eye on it.

perhaps. But that doesn't negate the poor implementation of options, replayability, player retention or immersion with the gameplay.

@@louismedina1976 The game is a boring snooze fest 1 hour in, why do I need to play 100 in order to make it interesting. The game does nothing new and the character, map, and enemy designs are awful. Its a game made in Korea so of course its going to appeal to weirdos who want to buy maid costumes and school girl outfits for their characters because porn is banned there, why these become popular in the west is beyond me.

I've been playing nonstop from release until the servers went down on July 3. I'm loving the game, but I urge everyone not to spend. $100 for an ultimate version of a single character is egregious and too greedy. So far the grind for characters and weapons isn't too bad, but I'm not at end game yet. It gets pretty challenging at points, forcing you to grind at times, but I'm a Warframe fanatic, so this isn't so bad...YET. I'm liking it, but I will never trust nexon to be fair.

this (you @toiletBread1651) is an honest review, some youtuber saying the cash shop stole money from people because 115k users were flooding the servers on launch day and crashing the item shop is just...how do you put it? Dumb. Does it have issues? Yes, very small, very un-impactful. This game has already made it to place 6 on steams top 100 of games ever played, lol. That in itself says a lot!

I personally dislike the typical glamorous Asian gacha game-style design of EVERY character in the game, it also doesn't help that there is an insane amount of weirdo cosmetics like school girl outfits, maid outfits and other stuff like that literally on release day; seems like they knew exactly what kind of people usually spend money on these kinds of games and just went all-in day one. The problem with these skins is that for a lot of people including myself it breaks the immersion and the ability to care for the story, the world, and what we as players are fighting for, whenever there is a girl in an oversized dinosaur costume, or a sexy maid outfit running around on the battlefield. One thing is revealing armor, but this is just straight up a lazy cashgrab from the devs (they did not invent anything new or cool to add onto the lore of the characters with their respective skins, instead its the same boring model for thirsty gamers). The mobs are extremely boring and very borrowing design-wise and, honestly, so is the story/lore, except the lore is not borrowing, rather just uninspired af. Example: the first boss you'll fight is literally Urgot from league (its just a coincidence that LOL is extremely popular in Korea where the devs are), also a lot of the enemies you'll fight are very reminiscent of destiny and halo. Can't give an example on the lore being boring, because I legit could not care to listen after seeing the generic red armor overpowered telekinesis bad guy.
Its nice to see cutscenes that don't look completely awful in a F2P game, but the animations in game... oh the animations. They're extremely clunky and feel like this was supposed to be a mobile game. The scopes on sniper rifles look terrible - straight up, so does the UI both in menus and in-game as it seems like it was borrowed from COD mobile. You can show me a F2P game that was made in Asia, without telling me it was made in Asia and I will be able to tell just by looking at the 2015 cheap mobile game ass UI. Ironsight (also a game by nexon) somehow had better UI than this shite, and that game's relatively old. At this point it is hard to tell if its the laziness, incompetence or both?? of the developers from Asia, but UI design is literally their bane.
This is a game that even if it gains popularity will do so not because its a good game, but because theres a severe lack of NEW alternatives in the looter shooter genre. And a starved player who enjoys these sort of games will likely play this and the devs will pray they get him hooked on the monetization of this game, cuz the way it works with these projects is that once any sum of money is in, one ends up in the sunken cost fallacy and just keeps playing even if its no longer enjoyable (same thing happens with time spent as well); and if u say that's not how it works and you personally would never, that you would righteously not spend a penny on this game like it (obviously yeah uhuh) doesn't give you an advantage, congrats you are only a bit smarter than the next guy who actually decided to waste money instead of wasting time on a project like this.
I got mixed feelings from the sound design, its mostly fine in the effects department, that is until u listen to the characters speak and especially their catchphrases. They're unbelievably corny and this was actually the last straw for me (again, if u fw that I guess there's a new episode of Demon Slayer coming out soon just for u).
While the gameplay itself is fine (for maybe a couple of hours) the gameplay loop and the mission types are extremely boring (IMHO), coupled with the beforementioned boring enemy design it becomes a snooze fest very quickly. And that's considering I didn't finish the "story", I could not imagine how repetitive it would get without any other sort of stimulation besides from the same loot just different colors after one is done with the sad excuse for a campaign. As per locations we have empty abandoned city with nothing to do in it and then acidic desert (very cool and new), I think I am also missing one, but at least there's a simulacrum from Warframe where you fight bosses guys!!
Anyway, I think if you're somewhat reasonable and know how devs scam players for their time and money and you know at least something about game design and don't need a constant flow of dopamine via different color borders around loot u acquire in a repetitive mission while playing a game, I suggest to simply pass by. 2/10 this game is secretly an advertisement of Warframe and Destiny.

Played Warframe since launch. Warframe then was very rough from the completely different beast it is today. Night and day difference. First Descendant is far and beyond in a better state then Warframe was at the start. A lot of the same remarks of pay to win or very mediocre was said. First Descendant has a solid foundation. Here's hoping, just like Warframe, they continue to make it even better with the passing months.

    • @RyanGaudet-og9tx

@TheAlphaOmegaX3 that's because Warframe was one of the first free to play business model that looked really good and played the way it did. So please don't try and compare something 13 years later when free to play is natural in the gaming world now. Not to mention the game as literally provided nothing new to stand out amongst other looter shooters.
Aside from that just being a foundation ain't gonna cut it this day an age when you have a wide variety of competition out there.

Seeing a lot of comment saying reviewer didn't play enough to give a proper review versus the reviewer saying a game shouldn't require 10+ hours of gameplay before getting fun. Both points are valid, but to me a "live service game" is exactly the type of game focusing on the endgame where the whole campaign is just a giant tutorial where people need to grind in order to reach the endgame. It's another form of "time gating" content so people doesn't burn through the game in 48 hours and get done with it, it gives the player base enough activities to do inbetween each "seasons". It's frustrating for casual players and less so for hardcore players ... but those hardcore players are the one keeping the game alive by buying cosmetics in the shop. It's a widespread industry model for live service game to cather to your more hardcore player base while the F2P are "filler player" more viewed as smart-NPC for matchmaking purposes. In that regard, you ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT review the whole game with less than 10 hours played. At best, you gave your impression of the tutorial ... but you should absolutely make antoher video after another 20+ hours played for your final review of the game.
