  • A chat about a way of dechlorinating my tap water to use in the pond. Not the only available way but just my method. Tap water must be dechlorinator before use as it is harmful, even fatal to your fish. Other methods are available. Thank you for watching, please subscribe.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been looking for a way to dechlorinate my water to use in my pond and your video explained it all for me.

    Steve. A hint with regards to the first filter (the 5 micron). Because the filter housing is see through, Algae will quickly build up. Especially somewhere as bright as a greenhouse. Put something opaque around the filter housing to block the light (e.g. cardboard sleeve, piece of plastic pipe (does 4" fit around it?). This will ensure you filter lasts longer and doesn't get covered in Algae.

      I use a black bag and an elastic band. Easy to fit/remove, cheap, lightweight and waterproof :) Hardly any algea now.

    My 3 stage filter instructions said the the GAC (your middle cartridge) should be stage 3. Mine was from service plus on ebay. I don't know if it matters really but thank you for the video, loving this series. Cheers.

    Good run by on that Steve as well I run two of them and swap out at about 3 months but only thing it gets you is you can run the water a little faster past them than just one set.
    Thanks for filming

    Good video mate, as said above good to test your water after your three stage filter for chlorine with the tablets, also good to run your water for a few minutes to flush the new cartridges, if you use a glass the catch the water coming out once replaced you will see what I mean, all the best keep them coming

    Hi Steve, great videos. Looks like the first filter just has algae growth, maybe helped by the warmth/light of the greenhouse? Would blocking the light help? I would also bet that the new 3rd filter looks the same as old one once it is wet- could just be seeing the black carbon.

    • @CATANDEYEKOI
      @CATANDEYEKOI  Před 4 lety

      I guess the first canister is see through so you can monitor condition but yes I get algae growth but it wasn't on the sediment filter, only the canister wall.

    Also if you can put on a fine spray from the dechlorinator slightly in the air that can help remove more clorine I was told this by someone who as been keeping koi for over 30 years.

    Love the channel mate as always, I'm making my own declornator at the moment using sodium thiosulphate which is o.k.
    I've looked after your latest update in buying the same, but doesn't give a around about figure on how many litres to it,s end life of the filters.
    Any clues then I'd be really grateful mate...👍

      I didn't see a life span as it's probably too variable. Environment you have the dechlorinator in, tap water quality, daily usage, drip in/drip out etc. Just monitor the state of the first filter and gauge it from that or regularly 6 months. Your choice, Cheers.

    • @CATANDEYEKOI

    Do you make your own liquid dechlorinator, using Sodium ThioSulphate? Easy to make and cheap to buy the crystals on eBay. Much cheaper than shop bought.
    Do you have a link from where you buy your cartridges from please?

    You should really test the water coming out of your Dechlorinator with DPD 4 tablets and if your filling a pond, make your own dechlorinator with Sodium Thiosulphate. Lots of posts on koi forums on how to do it.

    Great video Steve, I use the same set up. Question I’ve always asked though, without running it through a meter, how fast should you run water through it?

    • @CATANDEYEKOI
      @CATANDEYEKOI  Před 4 lety +1

      I don't honestly have an answer to that. Water pressure will play a part I guess but I run it through at normal water pressure rate without reducing the flow. Cheers
