Autopilot is now essentially not worth using and I have simply abandoned it and drive without it in all situations except using it as a cruise control on highways with almost no traffic. Why have they crippled it so bad? I thought it would improve over time, not be ruined.

2022 M3 here. The latest update for me is annoying because the camera in the car is tracking eye and hand movements. Looking at the screen, or reaching to grab a drink results in a warning. I got 1 strike on the first drive after the update. I have now blocked the inside camera. Problem solved.

A LOT of the nagging is down to changes they have made to the interior camera monitoring. I just went out earlier and it was nagging the hell out of me because I was wearing dark sunglasses. Soon as I took them off, nag went away. Never had that before today.

Agree the nag is ridiculous now. So, since I see little value to Autopilot now, I’ll probably stop using it. I can drive manually just fine thank you, and I don’t have to deal with the threat of losing something. Which, since I only have the free Autopilot, I didn’t lose much. Sucks to be an FSD user who now will have the threat of losing something they PAID for. And, FSD never really matured to an autonoumous driver assist. I doubt it was ever intended to, frankly.

For the steering wheel force I think it's trying to identify those steering wheel weights people were using. Those provide a constant force. I think the car is looking for variable force on the wheel. Maybe you can try intentionally varying the amount of force and see if that appeases it.

4 years on FSD is still a dogs breakfast in my M3. It doesn't even do motorways with no lane changes due to phantom braking. It used to be that the vehicle in the next lane had to touch the white line, now a side wind on a car in the next lane will slam the brakes on. The speed-camera feature is not available for me at all. Probably because it would get Tesla in a lot of legal issues over here. The aggresive AutoPilot I have noticed as well. Which Xmas version is this? Mine is on 2023.44.30.4 and I've noticed Autopilot needing a bit more input but didn't seem too annoying to me. Otherwise some interesting observations, and the enhancements such as pedestrian detection on a crossing look great.
I believe these should work in TACC mode too for those of us with FSD purchased because I often use that mode when there are parked cars and I've noticed it still slows to a stop as it approaches roundabouts.

I have a 2022 Model 3 Performance with ultrasonic sensors in the US. I think it was part of the last batch of cars that got them in September of 2022. I don't have any updates to Tesla vision. I also barely ever use autopilot as I use it my daily runabout around town and I'm only on the highway with it maybe a few miles at a time, but the updates seem more to punish bad actors than for those who use it properly. Coincidentally I'm just now at the moment about to make a bit of a longer trip (about 2 hours away) and will probably use it then. So hopefully it's less annoying than to what those have described.

    • @ryanmitcham5522
      @ryanmitcham5522 Před 5 měsíci

@@dmt472 Yes, but depends entirely on the type of camera. Yes they can capture on both lanes, but that doesn't mean they aren't directional. A traditional Gatso operates in one direction only - rear facing away from the camera. It can capture on both lanes, but only in one direction (so can capture an overtaking speeding vehicle, but only in one direction). However there are similar Truvelo cameras that only capture in one direction but front facing towards them instead. And there are a new generation of Vector SR cameras that can indeed capture in either direction. So unless you're familiar with the different types of cameras you're probably best treating it like they can capture both ways.
As to why apps show them either direction, it's a combination of apps that simply don't have directional functionality, or the ability to have different types of camera within their dataset to flag in which direction they operate.
But in this video the map worked properly, it only showed the camera in the direction it was applicable.

  • @davidew98

What everyone who does not have FSD Beta doesn’t understand that now auto pilot nags you like FSD beta does. Before the update, auto pilot would use the inside camera to notice if you were looking at the road or not, if you looked away, it would nag you, but not do a force disengagement. Now the camera is used more for nagging and forced disengagement. I have heard people saying that they’ve had their inside cameras covered up. But once the new update came out, those people with the camera covered ended up getting disengagement immediately until they uncovered the camera. Now with the new update, you cannot look at the center screen for too long and you cannot look down at a phone or other device. If either of these are done, it will disengage faster than not holding the wheel properly.
I know at least over here in the USA this was done due to the NHTSA overreaching recall. It’s a shame they went this far. I do understand that there are people who cheat auto pilot and make it bad for those who do not. But there should be a somewhere between what it was, and what it is now. There are some of us with eye conditions that our eyes do not look straight for example, my right eye looks down. in the US this does not help since the camera is to my right and thinks I’m looking down at the screen when in fact, I’m looking straight out the windshield. I just got auto pilot took from me for a whole week and will have to wait until next Friday to get it back.

I've been driving a Tesla M3 for many years and am usually open to new technologies.
But despite all the enthusiasm, I think we should leave the church in the village.
For me, what Tesla is offering here is at most a nice gimmick, because we are talking about a parking aid, i.e. a system that is supposed to help you park. If the system on offer is unsuitable for its intended purpose because it does not recognize obstacles to the front or rear, detects all sorts of things in the rain and, since the discontinuation of the USS, does not provide reliable information on distance, then for me this is not a revolutionary technology, but rather one poor parking aid with fancy graphics.
If I had the choice, I would immediately swap the Tesla's computer-generated display for the system with the 360 degree camera image display including USS, which most cars have installed as standard these days. Although I don't have the wow effect when the Tesla detects any object, I do have a system that fulfills its purpose of existence almost 100% correctly and that I can trust in all weather conditions.
Despite all the enthusiasm for technology, evolution always comes before revolution, but because Tesla always prefers revolution, we dummy testers now have to use our metal.

It gives stress and it distracts you when you get wrong messages. This was my last Tesla. I stop being part of an experiment which is not properly developed. Phantom breaking is back and worse as before. The speedca’era warning is allost invisible. The speedlimit reading is not correct volkswagen is doing that much better. I'm not sure how the police interpret it, but you are (or should be) taught to drive having both hands on the wheel unless you're performing an action critical to driving the car; changing gear, using control stalks on the steering wheel, handbrake control, reversing etc.
You shouldn't (but of course everyone does) take a hand off the wheel for non-essential activities; eating, drinking, smartphone, programming satnav, using a multimedia screen etc. Technically, taking a hand off the wheel to change air con or heating controls is considered bad driving. Certainly if you did those things during a driving test the examiner would almost certainly fail you.
The police though I guess could decide to pull you over for whatever they like if they feel you are driving 'without due care and attention'.
