I totally understand where the defendant is coming from. He felt pressured into marrying her or at least proposing because of the length of time they had been together. I don't think he's a bad guy, just that he didn't want to repay the money. Things happen. It appears he was clear about not being ready to marry her from the beginning and she just overlooked it.
If he truly loved her then she would have her money and a ring bc he would have worked two jobs to get it!

He seems like a decent young man who felt pressured to propose & went about it the wrong way. She seems like a young woman who is grounded in her values.
They didn't have any relationship issues before this, so this could've been resolved if the marriage was meant to be.
Both will be great for other people, but they just aren't a good match for each other right now. He's not financially ready & with time, she'll learn that the person you marry will make mistakes.
