The same thing with IC-7300, see QST review (August of 2016, specifically "Lab Notes"). AFAIU 705 is a small 7300 with VHF+UHF. Really, practically nobody strictly follows 6dB per S-unit requirement.
Hi. This is a full digital transceiver and it is very easy to do an accurate S-meter. All my SDR receivers (SDR-programms) have a true S-meters with better then 1db accuracy. That is just mathemathic formula and nothing more. They don't want to do that, so SDR revolution is going to us very slowly.

@@davidfainitski4201 Reading review of Yaesu FTdx100MP (200W version) in the December issue of QST. ARRL lab says that their S-meter is also 3dB per S-unit. There has to be some logic in this, but I cannot see it. :-(
the only thing important is the snr that makes you get the signal to receive in your ears or not. such meters are gadgets: "what is my signal?" -- 5 and 9! "thank, using QRP, 2 Watts" -- oh you are 5 and 4 I really could not care less.
Thanks for this reply, you are right. But it is really wierd for me why the DDC , in fact fully digital controlled system can't follow so easy generally accepted sings as a signal level measuring.

My Flex 6600 is spot on.
@Riho B. Hi. According to this video, S meter has a step 6dB per unit above S9 and 3db per unit below S9. Can you explain this behavior ?

I confirm this finding using HP-8921A as source S9 = -72 but S3 should be - 109 but shows up at -89 (Thanks David)
