  • Most Breaking events have a preselection process these days.
The event organizers have a time limit for their contest formats and for some, there are too many inscriptions. Therefore, a reduction plan to get to the number of participants for the Battle phase is necessary. The consequence is usually that this process is done in a rush. There always is a compromise when there is a time limit. What definitely cannot happen is when the organization forces its judges to use a system that is biased or rather corrupt in itself. This is what this video is about. Professor Storm is talking about a common judging process that most people do not know the consequences of.
In part, there is an easy solution to the problem. A judging tool called "Rankogram" was developed by Prof. Storm and and8 in 2014.

I agree with this. It crossed my mind a few weeks back when using the system in China. This also affects the bracket of the competition potentially leading to a whole different outcome. Hope you are well ✌️

Grand Master has never been more needed as a title for this man, absolute scientific brain of the hip hop world and brilliant in all areas that he researched and practiced.
I don’t know anyone else who has become the universal hand book to hip hop movement on earth.
Blessed to have seen footage of this amazing soul.

Good suggestion, using the ranks is essentially how people have done it until now (without using a system, the old pen and paper variant) and can be more accurate and consistent. But do you have a solution for the other problems - remembering new fresh dancers and the recency bias?
By the way, you were using the results from Spain and I'd like to add a little detail that really pissed us off. I'm from the Bulgarian Breaking Federation and our boy Zoolander was actually robbed. In the scores here he is placed 64th with 314,2 points, a tie with Drud, who you can see placed 65th. I'm not clear on how these ties are resolved (the old schoold way of one more round?), but I'll tell you how it went down at the event. Instead of any additional rounds or explanations Drud was put in the Top 64 and Zoolander was sent home. And considering this was the only time a Bulgarian Bboy actually made it to the Top 64 in the WDSF competitions, this decision was even more frustrating.
