Housekeeping is one of my all-time favorite novels. I fell in love with it when it first came out and still read it every few years. I am so glad you appreciated it too!

I love Housekeeping, and the film adaptation is really good too. A 25 year wait for her next novel was a bit crazy but Gilead is a work of genius and everything since as been brilliant too. My favourite living writer.
I appreciate your enthusiasm and support for this masterpiece of English-language literature. I'd rate it even higher, though, with my confirmed belief that this is one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century.

I share your opinion on Elizabeth Strout, so it's encouraging to hear that this is really good! I've had it on the shelf for a while now, might actually pick it up.
Elizabeth Strout is FINE but to me she's epitomy of a completely unremarkable writer. It hurts my heart to have her put in the same category as queen Marilynne Robinson
read three books of her essays though none of fiction yet know she had at least one deep conversation with obama while he was still president on spirituality/religion✡
