There have been others that attempted what Marvin did, but with the laws changing to support greedy business owners, they get sued. Sometimes they are even threatened with bodily harm.
NGL as a kid we were going to be in front of the TV on Friday nights waiting for Marvin Zindler to scream Slime in the ice machine! Just looked up Dave Ward and it was awesome to find out that he's still going strong at 96.
H-town Legend!!! Marvin Zindler, Eyyyyyyyyyyyewitness news!! He was my favorite part of watching the news back in the day. Even as a kid, I enjoyed watching.
Me too! I always remember his distinctive sign off. 😊 My best friend (3rd grade), her father, Mr. Harrison, was the weatherman for the channel. He took us to the studio because he needed to prepare for the next broadcast. I got to sit in Martin's chair. LOL I haven't thought about that in years!
Marvin Zindler, what a legend. I was only a small child in Houston around this time and I remember him because he looked so different than anyone else and had a weird name. What a trip down distant memory lane! Thanks :-).
When I first moved to Houston 31 years ago and saw him on TV, I thought he was weird, but I have grown to love this legend. His restaurant reports were fun to watch and it was fun to hear him say SLIIIIIIIIIIME IN THE ICE MACHINE and RRRRRRRRRROACHES! And who could forget the old "Good golf, good tennis, or whatever makes you happy. Marvin Zindler, EYYYYYYYYYWITNESS NEWS", followed by Dave Ward thanking Zindler afterwards.
No one could ever be like Marvin. I remember Friday nights listening to that Slime in the Ice Machine jingle. And NO ONE will ever be able to call out “EYEWITNESS NEWS!” like him.
Brings back so many memories. I grew up with Marvin on the evening news back when we only had like 10 or 12 channels. A really weird guy, but a Houston legend nonetheless
We moved to Fort Bend County at the end of 1982. We like Marvin Zindler and Mattress Mac. And the Astros. We miss the Oilers but do root for the Texans.
I don't know where you live, but it's the exact opposite here. The local news totally puts their inspection score and all the details out there for everyone to see.
When I was a little kid I was scared of Marvin Zindler. He was always yelling and he hardly ever smiled on camera. Of course like everyone else I grew to love the man. Honestly, I was very fond of everyone from channel 13 in those days. Dave Ward, Shera Fryer, Ed Brandon, Bob Allen and of course, Marvin Zindler
I wonder if ABC 13 still does the segment, because two of my relatives recently went to a Mexican restaurant in Bacliff. The food was good, they said, but they found some roaches in the dining area.
I member when I was younger ,& lived in South Houston. Was born @ Gulfway Hospital but any hoocheroo...I member Marvin Zindler saying It's 10 o'clock do you know where your children are? 1 night he said it's 10 o'clock do you know where your parents are. I was trying 2 locate that 2 share memories with my sister. We lived in South Houston @ the time.
I grew up in this Era. Man how the world has gone down hill. Bring back Marvin and have him call out the woke Americans. Slime in the school districts.
RIP Zindler. But you'll never be forgiven for your part in the closure of the Chicken Ranch. No roaches, not complaints; just good times. Until a big rat had to come along and ruin it.
We need another Reporter like Marvin Zindler. But no one will ever replace him. 🙏🏾❤️
There have been others that attempted what Marvin did, but with the laws changing to support greedy business owners, they get sued. Sometimes they are even threatened with bodily harm.
Zindler had swagger and confidence.

I'm here in 2022 after one of my patients found out I was from Houston and started talking about Marvin. Slim in The Ice Machine
"Poor old Charlie." That part always gets me 😂
This was what made Houston unique..we don;t have anything like Marvin anymore.
Marvin Zindler, what a legend. I was only a small child in Houston around this time and I remember him because he looked so different than anyone else and had a weird name. What a trip down distant memory lane! Thanks :-).

Back when journalism was entertaining. Rip, Marvin.
RIP to this Houston legend !
I lived in Houston from 1965 till 1970, when I left for the Army at 20 for 20. I still remember his 'loud' sign-off! "phil5301' NAILED IT!
I bet restaurants now are glad that he's not here cuz they'd probably be closed down as well
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Marvin
These bring back so many childhood memories
GOOD GOLF, GOOD TENNIS, OR WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY! MARVIN ZINDLER…EYEEEEWITNES NEWS!
wow! Haven't thought about this guy for decades! He was very popular in the late 70's and early 80's.
Legend RIP Mr Zindler you were truly one of a kind 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I'd guess since there were no other movies on most of the businesses he reported on, that the Chicken Ranch was his biggest story.
No one could ever be like Marvin. I remember Friday nights listening to that Slime in the Ice Machine jingle. And NO ONE will ever be able to call out “EYEWITNESS NEWS!” like him.

Every crooked restaurant owners worst nightmare.
These days people would flip out to protect the identity of dirty restaurants, how backwards our world has become.

They really used prime time news slot to tell you restaurants have bugs and rodents?
Yes! It was the most entertaining part of watching the news!!
“Poor old Charlie.”
I wonder if ABC 13 still does the segment, because two of my relatives recently went to a Mexican restaurant in Bacliff. The food was good, they said, but they found some roaches in the dining area.
What restaurant?
