How to: Installing sound in Atlas NJT Cab Car

- This is my first how to video, In this video you will learn how to install sound and dcc in a ATLAS HO NJT Cab Car, I though i would make this video because i have a Atlas ho Modern Commuter set and wanted the dcc and sound in the cab car and had a fairly difficult time doing it, so i want to put this up to help others so they dont have the frustration i had.
To complete this task you will need,
45 minutes of time
Small Phillips screw driver
Soldering Iron
Plastruct Plastic Weld
small red and black wire
Loksound LokProgrammer
Loksound ESU50321 sugar cube speaker
Loksound 21pin dcc or dcc sound decoder
PC Computer
isolated test track
Atlas HO Modern commuter cab car
Atlas HO Modern Commuter ALP45DP

On my loksound decoder, there are two antenna-like wires coming out of it. Do they connect to anything?
The purple wires go to the speaker

The ESU 73900 v4 decoder does not seem to be available at this time. Is there another decoder that anyone has used that would be a good substitute?

My ALP45DP already has sound - is it necessary to reprogram it to match the cab car? Thanks again!
Not Getting Any Younger Yes if your want your ALP45DP and cab car to work flawlessly, yes it is necessary to reprogram it, it's not anything you can't revert later on down the line. And do you have Instagram?
Never really use Instagram, but I have it. Also, was planning on buying the ESU decoder pre-programmed from Tony's Trains - I don't have a LokProgrammer. Not a PC user, I'm a MAC guy.
Not Getting Any Younger yeah I'm not a PC user either lol but I have a PC specifically for the Lokprogrammer, but if you run bootcamp you can run the lokprogrammer that way. And buying the decoders pre-programmed is ok... I will usually buy them dirt cheap like when guys rip them out and put something else in, and then just wipe it clean and then reprogram it and then I can make any necessary changes to the program, I would recommend if your going to be using loksound to invest in boot camp and a programmer, but your way will work too it's just a super pain to program them manually

Would it be for a NJT train or a different commuter set? Yes I could, and price would depend on if you were supplying the decoders of if I was buying the decoders

After you re program the alp, how do you get the cabcar and and the alp to work in conjunction?
they both work off of direction and the ALP's road number on the DCC sound decoder

Wait a minute, so I have to have to slots on my DCC controller? One for the Loco and one for Cabcar even if I don’t have sound on the cab?
no, if you program it the way i have it set up the cab car and locomotive will work under the address of the locomotive
What if I don’t have the tools to program it?
did you put sound in your cabcar or is it still dc
I haven’t bought it yet but I don’t plan on putting sound in it immediately
then if you dont do anything to it from the factory it will just run like any other passenger car because it does not have a motor in it.
This is kinda difficult
