For the thermal paste I recommend the Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme. Its is very resistant to the pump out effect meaning that the thermal paste will last for a while (a couple years) and is only $10 for 3.5 grams.
I highly recommend this thermal paste for anything including desktops and laptops.

mine was hitting 90 to 100 c before the teardown couldn't play games properly was having huge thermal throttling i have NVidia gtx 1060 with maxq, and after cleaning the fans which are detachable btw there are two screws from the back and smaller ones from the front you should be able to lift it up gently mind you because you don't want to rip the black tape that's attached to the grills, after lifting the fans i found a LOT of dust and lint blocking the airway preventing proper airflow so i just cleaned it with a alcohol damped cloth gently and blown out the rest of the dust with pressured air through the grills and used a brush to gently clean the blades of both fans then reattached and assembled everything back. i did not even touch the heat sync nor removed it cause i did not have thermal paste and the laptop was only 1 year old so it was not necessary to reapply the paste. after reassembly everything went back to normal 40c on idle 75c on max heavy duty gaming playing cod warzone with no issues hope this helps!
