Chorus:
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
Pure emotion... A tribute of a great poet Dylan to another great poet, Jonh Lennon. My God... Oh my heart...
Yes the song is great, however, I'd argue whether it's really a tribute. I see it more as a song about Lennon, and his difficult life. One guy wrote an article on a website, and here's one part of it: "Roll On John isn't a sad song about a friend that died. And it's not a sonic fist-bump from one icon to another. It's Dylan acknowledging that Lennon has become legend-another mythic character to populate his songs."
@@bsnf-5 Hello, William. When i read the lyrics I thought this also... But we can consider the two or more... versions. The important this history is Jonh is a true brithly Light like Dylan...
@@HelianaSuper Yes, I just wanted to share my view on this song. I've been trying to understand it for a long time now, and I still get confused in some parts... ;-)
@@bsnf-5 I know... I have reading about it. Some parts of the lyrics is about another situation... But the chorus say all: brith, Jonh!
@@HelianaSuper "In Roll on John Dylan looks at Lennon as a myth more than a man. The musician once compared himself to Jesus Christ and Dylan takes it a step further by lionizing him in song, pushing him towards a mythic status of sorts. Though some of the lyrics directly reference Lennon’s life, much of the song is ripe for interpretation. The men weren’t close friends by any means, but there are very few people who loom close to Dylan in terms of their impact on popular music. Though the song may ramble over seven minutes, there is something entrancing about Dylan’s meanderings, especially when the words 'I heard the news today, oh boy' cut through the cryptic text like a bright beacon." - David Harris, found on the internet!
Kids these days aint got a fuckin clue that this man is the real god
I love ya bob always will
Sung from Dylan's heart for John Lennon, our light....he was so bright! Bless you wherever you may be!
Hello Dear, it’s nice meeting you on here!
@@Bryanadamsmusicinc Thank you kindly. Hope all is good and understood. Luna
@@louiseluna4024 Yes all is well thanks 🙏🏽.. So have you ever been to our concerts?
@@Bryanadamsmusicinc Surely you remember the one in upstate NY a few years ago.....what was the name of the venue again?

It took years to publish this farewell greeting, grief takes time. It was a murder most foul too, "shot him in the back" unbelieverable horrorible..never forget it...Bob`s Farewell tries to heal the pain
That was beautiful man. We all are.
Bob Dylan wrote this song in 1962
@@jeanetteroybal8989 No , this one from Tempest is a complet new one. In 1962 it was a tradional folk Song( same title) , now a late Tribute to John after he was murdered. This song relates directly to it.
Hello, Cornelia. How are you? I never more saw comments yours. Today someone wrote something here and i saw your old comment... Can you give notices. Hugs.🌹🌹😘😘
Bob, this is such a beautiful and beloved memorial to John.
Best tribute to John Lennon imho. Deserves at least a million views. The hauntingly beautiful refrain "Shine your light, movin on, you burned so bright, roll on John."
Love Dylan’s use of Beatles lyrics in this tribute
and William Blake's
Yes that’s lovely: OH Boy …
This is a fantastic tribute to John Lennon. So much pain and beauty in the lyrics.
What a tribute to John Lennon. 💗🙏
❤
great song of great man
Makes me cry every single time. 🕯
Me too, listening to this beautiful song again
John Lennon forever, the legend giving tribute to his dear friend legend
I just saw Bob last night at the Hershey Theatre and it was a great show. Came home and read John Lennon's Playboy interviews from 1980. Led me here
No matter what kind of mood I’m in, the chorus of this song flips a switch and I’m heartbroken. So raw, sincere and powerful 😢
So true, no one but Bob could deliver such a tribute song to Lennon.
To one poet from another you both still roll on bright 🌞
So moving. So sad. What a unique man was John.
I know that John and Bob never saw _eye 2 eye_ (their Moons are Square) but this is quite possibly the best of paean ever written one songwriter to another.
Amazing, heard this song never before, heartbreaking💔
Who pray tell can write a song as good as this?
100% absolutely nobody can, not a chance that's why Bob is the greatest songwriter alive.
Expression of lyrics, vocalizing them as songs, my favorite singer songwriter high above so many great ones, Dylan singing Dylan reached me when I could use some help with grounding that, perfect timing, hearing 4 of his first 5 albums in May of 65, climbing up on dry land, his artistry was was the voice of life, & always has been

If you see her say hello! Another lovely Bob Dylan song!
Thanks Bob!

Doctor, doctor tell me the time of day
Another bottle's empty, another penny spent
He turned around and he slowly walked away
They shot him in the back and down he went
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
From the Liverpool docks to the red-light Hamburg streets
Down in the quarry with the Quarry men
Playing to the big crowds, playing to the cheap seats
Another day in the life on your way to your journey's end
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
Sailin' through the trade winds bound for the south
Rags on your back just like any other slave
They tied your hands and they clamped your mouth
Wasn't no way out of that deep dark cave
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
I heard the news today, oh boy
They hauled your ship up on the shore
Now the city gone dark, there is no more joy
They tore the heart right out and cut him to the core
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
Put on your bags and get 'em packed
Leave right now, you won't be far from wrong
The sooner you go the quicker you'll be back
You've been cooped up on an island far too long
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
Slow down you're moving way too fast
Come together right now over me
Your bones are weary, you're about to breathe your last
Lord, you know how hard that it can be
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
Roll on, John, roll through the rain and snow
Take the right-hand road and go where the buffalo roam
They'll trap you in an ambush before you know
Too late now to sail back home
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
Tyger, tyger burning bright
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
In the forests of the night
Cover 'em over and let him sleep
Shine your light
Movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John
Bob is still writing great songs. His about Lennon is outstanding. Keep writing Bob!

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
The Tyger
William Blake - 1757-1827
John Lennon would have had to learn this poem in his first year at Grammar School like many of us. Maybe Dylan too.
Mr. Genius you burn so bright and forever more. Beautiful 😍 love 💘
I cried when Howard Cosell anoused on Monday night football game, John Lennon DOA. Iwas literaly beside myself and saw my jaw dropped. Honest to GOD. Roll on John
The lizards behind this assassination knew so many would be tuned in to hear the dirty deed had been carried out . Another successful pych op to traumatize the masses.

Even twins can never see eye to eye. Especially if they're joined at the base of the spine
Dylan put their battle in place.....he definitely won

I wonder since he's such a "Mercurius" person if he missed his friend when he sang/wrote this... definitely sounds so!

Him n Yoko apparently planned to retire to west of Ireland. He knew where he came from.

The image of John dying stays with me. And lovely Liverpool where I once lived and went to the Cavern as a tourist of course. In 86. US immigration were a bunch of c**ts. Glad the airport named after him. Liverpool’s most talented gentle humorous loving son.
For Johnny.
One of Dylan's finest songs. Song dedicated to John Lennon.

Love this. Really wanted Bob to sing it when I saw him in Royal Albert in November 2013 but he fuckin didn’t
Best tribute to Mum I've heard. Always wondered why roll-on deodorant didn't really take off for men. Maybe this will right that wrong
Amazing and Wonderful song penned by the "Brilliant Virtuoso of Songwriting that is BOB DYLAN "❤ this song he wrote and sings Beautifully is truly a very Special tribute to Brilliant John Lennon who came from the City of Liverpool, my own home City, JOHN will Always be Greatly Missed Forevermore, and I Thank BRILLIANT BOB DYLAN FOR THIS SONG❤❤❤

This one has the guitar riff that would have made definite classics out of Narrow way or Pay in Blood -both suffer from tepid licks
Pay in Blood is fantastic. I think it's his singing that carries that song. His voice isn't just an instrument it's also a weapon
No pity down south.

“Too late now to sail back home” 🤦🏻♂️
I needed an antidote to the endless articles about Taylor Swift, so today I listened to Tin Angel, Tempest, and now this.

Such an act against nature the murder of John Lennon. Some part of the universe died that day. A truly beauty full soul full of soul. May his beautiful soul be resting now in the peace he wanted us to give a chance. Sadly the fuckwits are still running the show. Roll on John and Phil and Lenny and Janis and Amy and Dolores and Jim and Buddy and Marilyn and James and Kurt and so so many other great artists
And Sinead
Who is John the revelator ?
Some of the lyrics are very enigmatic for me... I tried to approach these lyrics many times, and I seem to be lacking some deeper references. Anyone has a take on "tiger tiger, burning bright, I pray the Lord my soul to keep"... or "take the right hand road and go where the Buffalo roam"? I imagine that these must be metaphors, perhaps symbolizing something else? And how to tie, link these lines/verses to John Lennon?
I've been very curious, especially the last two verses, and the third verse as well.
The Tyger by William Blake and biblical references...
@@ivanpotic3865 Yes, I know that, but could you expand on it, I mean what meaning have these lines to you? I'm not asking for source/original quotations per se, but I'm trying to discover what meaning lies behind these lines.
@@bsnf-5 Buy my book "Odgovor nošen vetrom", 2017, and you will find...
Where the buffalo roam is a song also, by Neil young
Not sure on Tiger Tiger, but "I pray the lord my soul to keep" is a line from prayer, also heard this line on Animals Album Pink Floyd which is based on George Orwell's Animal Farm and "take the right hand road" is a line also from Dylan song West Texas and maybe the buffalo line is a call back to "Trail of the buffalo" by Woody Guthrie which Dylan also covered in early 60s or could be to the Neil Young song.. funny cause I just seen article on this song in my side menu on phone and the song at bottom of page was Roll on John (different song) which I believe is a cover he played on radio show in 1962 Folksingers Choice With Cynthia Gooding
What album is this on?
Tempest 2012 the song Tempest is 12m long tribute to the Titanic fantastic song also.
Letras para John Lennon!!
Feckin Dylan didn't sing this when I dragged my grief stricken self to London November 2013
A song for John Lennon.
John Coltrane with the quarrymen was such a treat
Why did he killed John lennon
it's June 1st, 2022 and John Hinckley gets out of jail today.
Mark David Chapman allegedly shot John… not that other stooge .
would like to know what Mr Dylan thought of the lyrics that John made on his song God, I don't believe in Dylan.
John Coltrane
Lennon.
Some think of the Biblical John as well
Still wonder who was pulling the strings of the bastard who shot him.
