Mountain Wild Camp gone Wrong - Woke up on an Island

  • A mountain ridge wild camp on Scotland's finest southern Mountains - Ben Cruachan and Stob Daimh in Argyll and Bute was the plan.
However, due to strong winds, fog and heavy rain I decided to camp further down at the reservoir and not on the connecting ridge between Ben Cruachan and Stob Daimh as it was completely in fog and the weather forecast took a turn for the worst. At the Cruachan Reservoir I made a big mistake choosing the camp spot - a headland in the Cruachan Reservoir which flooded during the night so that I woke up on an Island!!! The water level rose by roughly 3 metres during my sleep...
I am fully aware of my mistake and with posting the video I do hope to help others avoid this stupid mistake which I made - and yes I do consider myself a lucky guy!!! - Stay safe and dry Stripey

I managed to get lost in the Torridons for 24 hrs. Not so much lost as definitely in the wrong glen, by the time the mist had risen it was too late and I made the decision to carry on, by noon I was regretting the decision, by nightfall I realised the sheep didn't even come up this way. Overnight on some humpy bit of heather. Just kept heading north until I reached Loch Maree by mid-morning the next day. Taken in by a nice old couple in a cottage who loaned me a screwdriver to fix my rucksack frame (that shows you how long ago it was) and gave me two pairs of dry socks, tea and lunch.
As for waking up on an island, it shows the advantage of brogues and a plaid for hiking. Nearly woken up floating twice when I'd misjudged the tide level, an uncomfortable feeling when you unzip the tent to get a sea view ..... in the porch !
