After our dog of 18 yrs passed away 20 yrs ago and hubby and I became empty nesters 10 yrs ago, hubby could not handle it. No one in the house to care for. Well our dog led us to a local animal shelter. 2 kittens immediately attached themselves to hubby and we left with them on his shoulders.
I’ve lost 3 wonderful doggo companions in my life. Each time I thought I could not have my heart broken like that again. And each time, as time went by, another darling pup would somehow come to my attention and I would start all over. Sweet Boy number 4 snoozes at my side as I write this. I just can’t do without a doggo and that unconditional love.
Same here Max, same here! Lost my last one a year ago in March, got a new puppy this February. I just couldn't handle the quiet in the house.😢

Jamie, we know you’re hurting. Please take comfort in the fact that you did everything right for Sherpa. You succeeded in giving Sherpa his best life, and it was obvious he loved you for it. Be proud of that success. We know it feels like he did way more for you than you did for him. But we are sure that Sherpa would say the reverse is true. And he would be quite vocal about it!
Be kind to yourself. Contemplating a life without Sherpa is overwhelming right now. You have a large community of supporters; continue to reach out to us for solace and support. Please continue to post videos, both old ones as well as updates on your status. Shared grief is more easily borne.

We all grive different. When my baby girl died in her sleep next to me, i was devastated. I wanted all her beds toys dishes gone. She was my life. I miss her so bad.
I didn't think I could ever get along without her. My son took in a rescue boy . Big boy . He's part shepard , part Doberman, part lab. He's a big baby. I call him the gentle giant. I watch him everyday while my son is at work or while he goes out to run errors.
A girl who used to work for me now has a rescue place. She had a picture posted of a carin terrier that someone threw out along side a country road. Well she gave birth to 5 puppies while on side of the road. Only she and 4 babies made it to get rescued. One baby was run over. Well my heart melted for the one little guy. I had to have him. He's blonde haired little and so much fun. He's paper trained and just can't image being without him.
He'll never replace my baby girl , but I didn't want to be alone . So these two boys keep me going.
So what I'm saying eventually you will have a time when it will be ok with Sherpa for you to find another fur baby to love. I know your hurting and he wouldn't want you to be sad. He loved you very much and you gave the best of life. So yes take your time , b u t remember he doesn't want you to be sad and he doesn't want you to be alone.
A new baby never replaces our old ones. They carve out their own new places in our hearts. I read something recently that says every dog I have takes up a different part of my heart. Eventually, my whole heart will be dog and I'll be perfect.
I did the same then couldn’t stand being alone anymore. An abused cocker girl seemed to need me and I adopted her, eight years ago. Never regretted it. Each dog is different but will find their spot in your heart.

So true and thank you for sharing. Love is a well that never runs dry. Our hearts are always ready to give love where it's needed and always seem to find those who need our love. I'm 80 next year and since I was a little girl I've loved 3 kitties and five dogs of our own, as well as two other dogs and a grumpy cat that belonged to my two grandmas. I still love them, they're in my heart, and I cherish their memories, and miss them forever, each one. 🤗💖

Fostering for a local rescue is an excellent idea! Sherpa's house & garden were designed & built with his safety & comfort in mind - almost perfect for fostering a dog in need of somewhere to rehab before finding it's forever home.

Absolutely agree with these comments. After my 16 yr old cat passed visiting kittens at the local shelter was such an emotional release. I don't know what the staff thought of a 61 yr old man sitting on the floor with tears flowing surrounded by a herd of kittens. The cat distribution system kicked in and one picked me.

It’s been going on 3 years since we lost our beloved Dakota. We still have mementos of him about the house; he is always here watching over us. I still talk to him daily. We’re going to make his food dishes and water buckets into planters. His light over the garage guides us home. It is blue, which is not only Autism and Law enforcement support, but seizure disorder support. Dakota had awful seizures but it never dimmed his joy of living! That is how I remember him and it is what gets me through the rough spots. You will make it through and Sherp will be there with each step.

On Saturday, the one year anniversary of his passing (last Saturday), I adopted a 4 year old Husky. It's not how I'd planned it but I'd like to think it's my last dog's way of telling me to help another dog like I helped him.
The universe works in strange ways. Thank you for all you've shared, this is an important part of healing. We'll never forget Sherpa and we'll never forget who took such excellent care of him.

My husky had a seizure and died. I was heart broken. I held him in my arms and cried for a bit. I thought I couldn't get over him. About 8 months later a husky was walking up and down the road in front of my property for 5 days. My mother told her husband to go get him. When I came home from work he just followed me into my house and laid down on the sofa. He was by my side like he belonged there for 6 short years. He made me miss my first husky even more when he first came into my life. When he left me I was heart broken and will always miss him and my other boy. The thing is that no other dog can replace them but will fill your heart with the love you are missing

Jamie I watched Sherpa and Jamie for 7 months... I have watched all of videos I could see... I cried, Sherpa died and Jamie is finding a life that without Sherpa... my dog and my cat, my cat was sick and my dog 16 and had alot of problems like Sherpa... enjoy your life, at first it's hard but your going love life... you will have Sherpa waiting for you ❤

I just donated Sherpie’s last book to the school library. I wanted to keep it but wanted the kids to enjoy it so I parted with it. Good morning Jaime from Georgia , USA. I cry for you each day! I know how deeply your heart hurts when you have to say goodbye to your fur baby. It is never easy & it takes time. I couldn’t take coming home to an empty house when my Bogie & Katie crossed the Rainbow Bridge. So I rescued 2 kittens. A few months later my little Rusty dog, was abandoned at my house & now my heart sings with my two cats & my fat little Rusty, who is now about 11 years old. I still think of Bogie & Katie daily, but I smile now when I think of them. Think of rescuing a scared soul out there who needs you , it really does help ease your pain, when you are ready. 💔💔😢😢
Amen, I went through the same thing. Saving another rescue did not take away from my first rescue who passed.
Absolutely! Some people can't open up again, which is understandable, but IF he can its a WONDERFUL way to help yourself. It's just important to make sure to take the time to process and let the grief happen first, so that you're sure you are up to a new pal and know its not "replace" the lost family but "addition" to the family that already is. Because the ones we love never really leave us, they stay with us in our souls and hearts and memories.
I adopted a 3 year old void kitty with pretty green eyes from the local SPCA shelter about a week and a half after my boy went because I wasn't functioning... practically at all. My big doggo had been my support and therapy companion and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE thought he was at risk of death any time soon. He was so healthy, as far as we all knew, that the vet even OK'd a lumpectomy for a concerningly large lypoma that had developed over the years. He passed almost exactly one month out from that surgery, suddenly, at home. It had been a nice day, we all just thought he was a bit sore from arthritis that had 'just developed recently'. To try and keep me upright after the sudden loss of my boy, dad and sis went and sourced a cat for me (we already had one, and they do better in pairs, so this would work out). She was so happy to be picked she walked right into my carrier on the day I was allowed to come get her!
A few months later, I adopted a 2.5 year old chihuahua in need of some help losing weight (a problem I also have, that Bran was helping me with before he passed). The two of them have taken up my honor guard, in place of Big Boy Bran; where once I had one white doggo shadowing me everywhere, now I have a tiny black-and-white chihuahua and a void kitty following me everywhere (and I have dark floors in some places so the void kitty doubles as a reminder to pay attention to my surroundings... IYKYK) :D

My friend had 4 cats. 2 of them passed away in their senior years due to illnesses. After cremation, my friend left their urns in a corner of her TV room. One Sunday morning, she woke up to find their urns in the middle of the TV room. She was in shock as she lived alone. I told her to take it as a sign that her cats (now as Angels) visited her. Lord Sherpa will give you a sign that he's with you.
I had a similar occurrence happen to me, and one of my dogs urns except for me the urn was placed on my bed side table.

Yes, I agree with you. My dog passed away 6 years ago, and I have never wanted to replace her, S she was my late mums dog. Memories, etc, of her and my mum. I still feel her in my bedroom at night she bumps down against the bed, plus my old cat is here too. Its amazing what you feel/hear. ❤

Marina, from the channel Wild She Goes, lost her dog Odie - it took her quite a while but she eventually started fostering dogs whilst they waited for their forever homes. I think that is such a loving thing to do (I don't think I could do it!) but she has just recently adopted a dog of her own again. You need some time Jamie but I'm sure the path ahead will become clear. Take care of yourself and well done getting out. Much love X

He'll still always be a good boy. This made me want to give my dog a hug and tell her how much I care about her. If you have a furry friend you should do the same.

there is nothing strange about mowing over his poop. it does two things, 1. it keeps him in his garden. 2. he will be able to help his garden green and fertilized . Great idea, I love it.
