In the world of road running, the right shoe can make all the difference. The Saucony Triumph 21 is a testament to this, offering a balanced blend of comfort, durability, and especially long-run performance. This detailed review focuses on the three core components of the shoe: the upper, midsole, and outsole, providing runners with the insights needed to make an informed decision.
Upper: New Approach, Similar Feel
The upper of the Saucony Triumph 21 is crafted from a new Flat Knit material, the upper offers a soft, sock-like feel, hugging the foot for a secure, yet non-restrictive fit. Strategic 3D-printed overlays add structure and support without additional weight, ensuring the shoe remains lightweight and responsive. The plush feel through the heel counter is spot on with the performance of it's predecessor, the Triumph 20. A full-gusset of the tongue creates that ideal lockdown feel through the eyelet chain. The padded tongue and collar not only enhance comfort but also prevent irritation, allowing runners to focus solely on their performance.
Midsole: Responsive Cushioning
At the heart of the Saucony Triumph 21 is the PWRRUN+ midsole, a feature that sets this shoe apart in terms of comfort and responsiveness. This innovative cushioning material delivers a plush, yet springy ride, ensuring each step is absorbed and returned with energy. The midsole's design effectively disperses impact, reducing stress on joints and contributing to a smoother, more enjoyable run.
The geometry of the midsole is thoughtfully crafted to provide a stable platform, enhancing the natural gait cycle and promoting a more efficient stride. Whether tackling long distances or middle distance jogs, the Triumph 21's midsole offers consistent performance, making it a reliable choice for runners of all levels.
Outsole: Durable XT-900 Rubber
Durability and traction are paramount for road running shoes, and the Saucony Triumph 21's outsole excels in both. Constructed from a durable rubber compound, the outsole is designed to withstand the rigors of regular use, ensuring the shoe's longevity. The strategically placed traction patterns provide a firm grip on various surfaces, offering confidence with each step.
The outsole's flexibility complements the shoe's overall design, allowing for a natural foot flexion and aiding in a smoother transition from heel to toe. This attention to detail in the outsole construction contributes to the Triumph 21's overall performance and comfort.
The Saucony Triumph 21 is more than just a running shoe; it's a testament to thoughtful design and engineering. With its comfortable and breathable upper, responsive PWRRUN+ midsole, and durable outsole, this shoe is equipped to support runners in their quest for excellence. Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or a casual enthusiast, the Triumph 21 is poised to elevate your road running experience.

Triumph 20 lover here 🙋♂️ and the 21 is a fantastic update (or lack thereof)
I bought the Triumph 21 about a month ago, it's so, so good. It's the best running shoe I've ever used, it's got me running properly again after a break.
Seth, I've got to say something about this review. I really like that you are not rushing to get and test the latest and coolest trainers out there just to get views or attention. You took your time and truly speak your opinion on any pair of shoes you tested, no matter how old they are. A good shoe is still a good shoe even if they are two-year old. I understand you had a hiatus in the summer and probably had a huge backlog of shoes to review but what's precious is you did not skip them just because they are outdated or not the most anticipated shoes people want to see. I love your channel because of this reason, because it takes courage to do so, because not getting the latest and coolest gears in front of our thirsty eye balls could mean less revenue but you did what you did. To the shoe geeks or sneakerheads, this may be a boring episode, but to folks who enjoy running and just want to find a great pair of valued trainer for their endeavor, this is the channel that they will keep coming back to.
I loved the review and just ordered a pair for $103 💗
Bought the Triumph 20 in November 2023 for USD59. Best purchase ever. It is a high quality and plush upper all over
@@cgazlan yayyy best deal!
I can’t get enough of my T21’s. The upper is sooooo comfortable and PWRRUN+ feels good (to me) all the way up to half marathon pace and it even performs really well during strides. One of the best shoes ever made, for sure!!
you make me want to get it now i have the shift 3 this is my first time owning a saucony shoe don't get me wrong i love the shoe i have right now
Couldn't agree more!
I have the St. Patrick's Day version of the Triumph 20 and love them. They are great.
T20 fan here! My long run shoe! And everything else…
Ha. Yes 👊 I got these a few weeks back now & I keep reaching for them. Definitely turned into my everyday go-to ✌️
Have several Triumph 20s. Love them!
Totally agree! I love my triumph 21s!!
I bought the 20 last fall. Best shoe I've ever ran in. Fantastic!!
Bought my Triumph 21s a few weeks ago. They are great.
I also bought the Triumph 20 last year and I fell in love with it as my go to all-round training shoe, especially as a cruiser and long runs. I have now done 1,500km and they have still some wear left in them! They were so good that I now have the T21s as they have the same sole.
Love it. Thanks!
love them too! longrun tomorrow🙌💪🏻
Bought the Triumph 19 for $50 in 2023, one of the best running shoes I’ve bought; super comfortable, great traction, love PWRRUN+! Looking for the next deal I can find on a newer version here soon. Thanks for the review Seth, hoping to run into on the Denver trails sometime!
Got the Triumph 20 on sale last year. Love them, using them for long runs… perfect cushioning.
Suspect I’ll be getting a few 21s when they go on sale…
Ran a little over 600 miles in the triumph 20. Favourite shoe last year!!!
Love the 20!
QOD: New Balance 890v2. Was my one-shoe quiver running track and cross in University while on a student budget. Version 3 just wasn’t the same, and subsequent iterations got farther and farther away from the original until it was finally discontinued. The rebel has taken over the void left in the 890’s absence, but despite new foams etc. it just doesn’t have that old magic.
Triumph 20 is my love
When my 20’s wear out I will definitely get a pair of the 21’s!
Next on my list! Can’t wait to try them 🤠
Just broke 500 miles on my 20's yesterday and it still feels great under foot. Thanks for the recommendation Seth!
QOD: New Balance 1080 V10 - V11.... the V10 felt good but the V11 felt like it was always slipping off the heel due to the softer heel material that doesn't hug my heel the way I'd like. Glad to see you back in the Shoedio giving us precious feedback on whats new in the world of running shoes. Hope you and the family feel better, time to go for that long run!
I'm in love with my T20. Bought following Seth's review for a solid daily shoe to return to consistent running again. They just keep you going for easy pace and can handle a bit extra too. I did a 14 mile long run just today and they give you that just rightness and sense they can be trusted.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻, new 2024 ride 17 will be the Triumph 21 for less $$$. Also 8mm drop ! 🤩🤩🤩
Based on Seths reviews:
Ride 17, size 9, 281g, score 4
Triumph 21, size 9, 278g, score 7.
🤷♂
I think weight score is based off of use case. Triumph being a max cushion daily trainer the weight can be a little higher. I do think he needs to clarify his scoring a little better though
The Triumph is my favorite shoe ever!!! Currently have the 20.
I still use the Triumph 18 for my recovery runs! I have 1100 miles on them.
I'm still on the T17. God knows how many mileage are in that pair. Shockingly still like new and can go on.
Heavier runner here. I LOVE the Triumph 20. I got it on discount a few months ago and it quickly became my shoe of choice. PWRRUN+ is incredibly resilient to my body weight, so it has great cushioning and energy return, without losing its resiliency over the course of a long run like most other foams do. The outsole has also been very durable. I’ve ran in the Triumph 17, 19, and now the 20 and the 20/21 is by far the best.
The closest shoe I would consider to this is the Puma Magnify Nitro 2. Similar offset, upper construction, and the midsole feels very similar mileage after mile. I tend to offset the 2 shoes but adapt quickly because of how close they feel. I’ve head the Nike Vomero 17 is also very similar as well.
The Mag 2 has been brilliant so far 👌 for me.
Which midsole has better cushioning, Triumph 20/21 or Puma Magnify Nitro 2?
I've got over 450 miles on mine and feel like they could go at least another 200. Great easy day and long run shoe and can throw in marathon/half marathon paces in there. It compliments the Speed 3 extremely well!
Agreed! The T20 and Speed3 are the shoes I reach for the most :)
I just finished my first run in some cheap deal Triumph 20s this weekend, and oh my. It's a perfect amount of everything for that job and dare I say a 'fun' shoe.
Been a huge fan of the triumph line since I first tried the 17’s, been buying every model since and pinching those pennies bought a couple pairs of 20’s that should last me a while! Glad to hear I can safely do the same when 21’s go on clearance!
Thank you. 😊👍👍
Thanks Seth! I love the Triumph 20s and 21s and can’t agree more with your review. The upper fits better (for me) with the 20, but they’re both great. Thanks for the review!
I used to love the early Reebok float ride energy shoes. 1st two generations had amazing PBA foam and plenty of room in toe box and mid foot. With latest Reebok floatride energy 5 it’s so narrow I had to send it back.
To answer your question about negative changes: nike infinity run 1s to 2s (and 3s etc). Nike zoomfly flyknit (2018) were my favorite shoe ever! I had 9 pairs, finally ran out of my stockpile. No zoomfly has ever compared!
On my 3rd paid of triumph 20s. Love that they’ve stayed the same. When triumph 21 is on special I’ll be buying a couple pairs.
I bought the 20 last year based on your review my friend, love it. Over 400 and still going strong! Thanks Seth, and was not joking whey I said I don’t buy running shoes before checking to see how you’ve rated them.
What a coincidence, chose this shoe for my long run today. Great comfort underfoot and the new lockdown is 👍👍👍👍👍
Great to hear!
The 20s are a class shoe, almost stopped wearing saucony after the rubbish speed 3 but after over 400 miles in the triump my faith us restored
Bought Triumph 20 on sale after 21 came out. Great deal. Glad I did. You'll get another shot soon with the Triumph 22, which is a major upgrade.
I bought the Triumph 20s and LOVE THEM - my pair has 450 miles on them and I can barely tell the difference!! In fact, it took almost 100 miles for me and the shoe to really get along, and now it just keeps getting better 👍
Just did my long run in the 20’s plan on getting the 21’s.
My triumph 20 is still going strong at 350 miles. I was going to replace them but they still feel good and the grip,, it's still in good shape. Definitely going to keep buying these shoes
Bought the 20 on sale and I would buy another pair again before they are gone. I’ve got those and the Superblast but I find myself reaching for the 20 more often for my long and easy runs. They are great do it all daily trainers too.
I'm running the entire Saucony lineup. Can't beat it for the price (Entire shoe rotation for the cost of one shoe!)
Kinvara 13 > Ride 15 > Triumph 20
On my 2nd pair of 20s and absolutely love them! Got over 500 on first and little over 200 on current pair. Excited i get to get the 21s soon on discount.
Cascadia is now to narrow in the forefoot and loose in the heal pocket in the newer versions. My first pare was the 11s.
Just picked up some T20's on the cheap -great shoe!! First run in them today, love the PWRRUN+ midsole. Buttah that bread!
Great vid… I love my T20’s !!
I bought the 20 on a discount. Lived it enough to immediately buy a second pair. At 425 miles on the first pair and still going strong.
I still need to try shoes from Saucony, and the first I plan to try should be Triumph.
My long run today was done in a pair of Gel-Nimbus 26. I loved how much the stability, breathability, and traction ( was raining) got improved. But I miss the ulta soft middlesole of my old Gel-Nimbus 25.
Great video, Seth !
I would say the triumph is closer to to the firmness of the 26 but with more bounce. The 25 was very nice underfoot
I am currently on 800kms in the triumph 20s. honestkly the best all rounder out there
Did my run (17k) in my T20s this past weekend, Which I bought after your last review in 2023. Looking forward to the 21 which I might buy after seeing this video but, I an also looking at Asics Novablast 4. Enjoy all your content Seth and have for 5 + years now, keep it up. With support from Moss, Norway! 🤜💥🤛
Ran 400 miles in the T20 and will be getting the T21 on sale for my next daily trainer
They ruined the kinvara with the 14, but didn't change this one... yep, high stack high drop is saucony all the way. So long and thanks for all the miles
It's funny that you posted this now. I just ran a 15-mile run in them and decided to make them my LA Marathon shoe.
QD: For me, the shoe that comes to mind is the Adidas Boston series. I ran in every iteration from 5-9, skipped 10, and bought the 11 on massive clearance. The shoe was completely overhauled from the 9 to the 10/11 where the 11 felt like a brick.
I had to search for my new daily trainer, since the Boston was not a true Boston anymore. I landed on the Adidas Adios 8 which has the most similar feel of a modern shoe to the Boston 9 we all love.
I was actually disappointed when I first ran in this shoe. My last Triumph was the 19 and I used it for recovery days. This really isn't a recovery day shoe. However, since it wasn't a recovery day shoe I started using it for workout days because I didn't want to waste it. And it was bizarrely competent. I wouldn't use it on the track but this thing can ran steasy, it can run long, it can do strides and fartleks. It's remarkably versatile.
Been super sick the last two weeks and haven’t done much running but might get the old Triumph 20 out of the box for a run tomorrow.
Been a huge Saucony fan for years, and no doubt this is a fantastic shoe. The 10 mm heel drop seems high, for me.
The lack of change from 20 to 21 is exactly why I found the 20 to be such a great bargain for a long run shoe option! I will definitely be doing a long run in the 20 this week
I love my triumph 20s. Hit 300 miles last week, but it still runs awesome. Did anyone notice the de-icer they use on the road may be separating the foam beading on the bottoms?
I tested this for 10k and they felt identical to my Saucony Speed 3's maybe with a slightly better upper, not enough for me to change but a seemingly great choice for those new to the Saucony brand.
Triumph 20 for this Sunday's long run. Amazingly little outsole wear with all grooves still visible at 325 miles.
Bought a pair of the 20s last year, probably the most durable shoe I’ve ever ran in, pwrrun + foam would have to be the most resilient on the market.
Ran 44km with the triumph 20 this Sunday
Great videos and lessons. What reference are the pants that appear in the video? thanks
Currently have two pairs of Triumph 20's, one with 300 miles, the other with 400miles. They're stunningly good trainers and whilst I have quite a few other trainers to run in, the Triumphs are pretty much all I use now.
I have a few pairs of Speeds, and a couple of pairs of the Endorphin Pros, which I love, but for my everyday running simply can't beat the Triumphs. Looking forward to seeing what the Triumph 22 will be like.
I have been in Asics for the past 5 years, mostly Kayano's but I really don't like the Kayano 30. It's too wide, the sidewalls are obnoxious. It feels like they tried to make a Hoka to me, which I know a lot of people will like, but I do not. In my search for a new cushioned shoe with some stability I ended up trying on a Triumph 20 and it was magic. It's got great cushion but there is still some stiffness there too that helps me not overpronate much. I got 2 pairs for the price of the 21.
I picked up at pair of Triumph 20s a couple of months ago on one of those REI 20% off of the outlet deals. I think I paid about $70 for it. It has since become one of my most used shoes and will probably be the fastest pair ever to 100 miles for me. The only reason I don’t run in it even more is the 10mm drop is just a bit much for my preference but is great for those double run days when I want to take just a bit of strain off of my calves and Achilles.
No problem with the knit upper on the 21. It’s extremely well ventilated which you can feel when it’s very cold, so should be no problem at all in the summer.
I have around 400 miles in the Saucony endorphin speed 2 and it feels basically the same as mile 1. Saucony > every other company
first touch of triumph was the 19's wich i loved even on trails, longest run was 112km , then the 20's with a 100km longest run and got the 21's last week wich i am saving for when my 20's start to give problems. The 21's will bring me a 71km FKT and more.
Over 650 miles on my triumph 20. ❤️👟❤️👟❤️
Seth. I bought a pair of triumph 20s after your review. I am now halfway through my third pair. Btw, I get roughly 450-550 miles out of each pair
Love the channel. I had the T 20s and I love them, but can anybody give me a good recommendation for a easy day runner
Should compare this to the Puma Magnify 2...absolutely loving it. I feel like these shoes compete very closely with each other.
the rubber on my 20s completely came off. they just sent me a new pair of 21s.
My 20s have 350 miles. Other than a little outsole wear, they look & feel like they’re new. I do get some weird rubbing on my toes in them though. Haven’t figured that out. So they’re not my go-to shoe.
Definitely a good max daily trainer and long run shoe. No way am I racing in this . 10oz in my size 9
T20 640 miles and still going strong.
I look forward to your next Tri Noosa review. I hear the latest version has changed a little from the previous two editions
Happy St. Brigids Day ❤
I got the 20 on discount last year and love it. Just bought another pair on discount. Waiting to get the 21 on discount.
What do you think of the 22 and its use of pwrrun pb? I think the new Ride has pwrrun+, so that might be the better sure for those who like the Triumph 20/21.
My 20 has 2 seams in the heel that can rub. The new 21 has changed that. Sierra has the 20s down to $70 and found a pair at $50.
Was about to pick up the T20, but the 10mm drop scared me lol. Should that be a concern for a mid for runner?
Hi Seth love the review. How do feel the 20/21 differ from the speed 3 as far as ride comfort I felt like the speed in my winter (35 degrees) felt a bit firm for a 11 mile run
Hi Seth! I love the short and helpful review today, thank you sir. I’m just not sure what you meant at this time mark: 5:20
QD: Nike Invincible 1/2 to 3 ... Those went from being so much fun, to sadly being one big disaster :-( I gave them about 40 miles, but eventually retired them to (expensive) casual sneakers ...
QD: gotta be the Adidas Boston 9 to 10😢! I went through 4 pairs of the 9 and had to relegate the 10s to my coaching job. They were just too clunky heavy and gave me blisters when I ran in them.
sooooooooooooooo TRUE
I demo’d the 21 not long ago and I thought it was okay. Didn’t disappoint me but didn’t excite me either. I think I would still prefer the Tempus over the Triumph personally.
Easy it was the nova blast for me i also love the 1&2 but not the 3
I love the triumph 20 and 21 i have a combined 4 pairs
QD: got be the invincible 2 to 3.
Is this a softer shoe compared to the endorphin line?
The 20 or 21 both top drawer
i like the T20 but i LOVE de NB4!
Hi Seth! Great review 👌🏼 could you tell me the song at the start of the video please 🙏🏼
when saucony hurricane went from 12 to 13, they narrowed the toe box and i started losing toenails. i had been wearing the hurricane since #8, so i was at a loss and am still searching for my go to shoe. btw, the salesgirl at my local store in nyc told me the hurricane is coming back
