I quilt with a group that works on donations of scrap material and we donate the quilts to childrens homes, disaster victims and whoever has a need of one. With the all the small pieces I made one of these as a scrap quilt and it was beautiful. This pattern lends itself to a few colors or a lot of colors. I am fairly new at quilting and the tutorials are very beginner friendly. Thank you Jenny
What a wonderful service to be a part of Lanita! Thanks for taking time out of your life to help others!
First thing I do on Friday morning is switch on my tablet and then the kettle, and watch your new tutorial! Love this star, it's just what I've been looking for to add to a quilt I'm making that has a log cabin flower wreath in the centre.
+Nita Hubbard That will be adorable! :)
I have never made a quilt but I have bought a sewing machine as I have been so inspired by you Jenny, what a legend!God bless
+Lesley Nicholls If you need suggestions for your first projects, let us know and we'd love to help! :)
Hi, awhile back I ordered the Ribbon Star Quilt Pattern and I had called several times on this pattern as the points on the Stars would be sewn in because there wasn't enough room even if I used a 1/4" scant even though I always use a 1/4" scant. I got the run around and was told to move the snowball (2-1/2"x2-1/2" squares) to the right or left when sewing them in. Well, after a lot of sewing and trying that method (wasting fabric) I was told to try which never worked right to get the snowballs sewn in right I decided to do my own measurements on the 2-1/2"x2-1/2" squares for the snowballed corners. I solved the problem by making those snowball squares by measuring up to 2-5/8"x2-5/8" (1/8" larger). I looked yesterday to see if there was an updated video etc…. and I found one that was posted in December on this quilt- (czcams.com/video/Yk2lK5pK2cI/video.html) - I seen where Misty had the same problem with getting the 1/4" seam allowance and said to make sure you go above the seam where the point of the star is. This would make it less than a 1/4" seam (even a scant) allowance and the quilt would not lay flat if it was done that way. I just wanted to give you my view (not to complain) on what I have done to make this quilt (blocks) measure out right without losing the points on the stars. It also gives ample room to trim the block down to the finished block size that the pattern calls for. I have also seen where there are complaints (like mine) that people are also losing the points on the stars. I think if people are buying this pattern the pattern should be updated. I am only writing you because I hate to see people (especially beginners) to not have to go through what I had to to get the block to measure correctly without losing the star points. I don't like to complain because I love MSQC and the Block Magazine I just wanted to give you my feedback on this Pattern. Thank you Kindly….
Ribbon Star is my favorite tutorial at the present time. Our guild is using it to make blocks for "vets" quilts. We all use Kaufman's white for background and red, blue, gold or tan. Your video assures we are all making the same pattern and size. Turning them in at monthly meetings. We will then get together and have a fun time putting together these quilts!! Thanks Jenny. Jan, member of Birmingham Quilters Guild
I have every Friday off. My Fridays begin with immediately looking at the newest tutorial. Thank you Ginny. I'm going broke with the daily deals. I'm always hearing "just what was so important today?" You are, of course.
+Connie Ferrell My Fridays off are doing housework and catching up with washing! Encouraging my husband to go out with the grandkids and will leave my Saturday free, hahahaha
Connie....I know what you mean...I wait til midnight to get the next days daily deal.......do not buy all of them of course but cannot miss seeing them just in case..........but I do have a wonderful collection and working hard to get my ideas down on paper and start cutting and creating ......
I look forward to these tutorials every Friday. They are never disappointing and taught me so much. Thank You MSQC especially Jenny. You guys are terrific.
+Ann L Thanks for watching!! :)
Last night I used this pattern to make side panels for my front door. I made them with bright batiks and white background fabric. In the sunshine, oh goodness they look like stained glass!! Thanks so much for offering this block and tutorial.
Jenny I have to say that I look forward to these video's. I have been bed bound sense January of this year. So when I can get back on my feet again you can bet I will hit the floor running right to my sewing machine. My first quilt will be Dutchman's puzzle. Thank you for all you do to make quilting easy.
Ethel from New Hampshire
+ETHEL KINSLEY I can't help but start thinking of how we can set up your machine on your bed! The only part I can't figure out is the foot pedal... hmmmm... ;) I hope you are up and about soon!!!
Use one of the machines that have a start stop button on the machine and does not require a foot pedal.
+Missouri Star Quilt Company get a machine like mine that runs with start stop button on the machine.
+Tina Burnham also wanted to say that I use the blocks I learn from you and use them as a front panel on tote. she I make. everybody loves them.
Thanks from Canary Island, for your tutorial, is maravillous her explication!!!!
This pattern could also make a tulip quilt on point after adding the snowball corners. Neat.
Wow. Now I have to try this. Thank you Jenny. Each of your tutorials is an inspiration to try something new.
I am going to make a quilt for someone very special to me, for her high school graduation gift. I take your Block book, so I went through them with her and she fell in love with this quilt. We are getting fabric for it Friday! I can't wait to get started on it!!!
I really like the ribbon star quilt. I think that would make a nice throw pillow cover too. Thanks Joan V.
Jenny, of course you've done it again!! I'm so happy this week tutorial uses jelly rolls! For some reason whenever they are on sale on MSQC I can't help but buy them!! They are contagious!! I think everyone needs to keep buying from MSQC to help you get rid of all those October tickets so you can get some rest before the holidays!! (I know I've been doing my part! LOL)
Okay ... this looks fast and fun .... I am going to use my Christmas fabric on this quilt ... I bet it will look gorgeous !!! thanks again Jenny ... well done.
Mmmmmm, stars, love them! Thanks for another great Friday morning and pattern! Jenny!
+TexasCowpatti Love your name!!
I think I’ll make this one with some spring colors. Now that Christmas is over I’m ready for Spring already. Lol! Oh! And I could make those corner stones into friendship stars!
I’m making my husband a ribbon star quilt using the Scrap Happy fabric line and it’s coming together so nicely! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful tutorial!! ♥️
I love that something that looks complicated can be so easy. Thanks for all the tutorials.
I love this star. It looks complicated but, as usual, you have a method that makes it easy. My daughter's love stars so I will definitely be making this one! I can't wait to go home and look through my jelly roll stash. :-)
+boo2013Z This would be so fun in some light and bright colors! We'd love to see photos when you make this one! :)
On that quilt. Hand free emotion design looks so awesome. 😀😺👍👍
1/4 of the star makes a tulip! How pretty!
Wait... a budding rosebud!
Jenny, you're a genius. I've seen this made before with templates, and triangles and basically in a very complicated way. You've made it so easy. It's going on my bucket list now !
I have always said it is difficult to pick out one of your quilts as a favourite. However, now I know the two I want to make. The Irish chain, because it is so simple yet beautiful, also I'm Irish and this star it is just so lovely. In time I hope to do some of the rest.
I hope the Easy Ribbon Star quilt will be in the next Block magazine; love it, but it's nice to have it written out with pictures!
I just love these tutorials. Jenny is the best teacher and she makes everything easy to understand.
I always look forward to you videos!
super easy. and it is an easy made rose bud if you add white strips to border it all on color sides of the block.
I really love this quilt thank you. You look tired jenny don't push yourself to hard and get some rest
Another quilt to plan for!! I love your quilts but also the way you explain them is awesome. Thank you!!!
I like this quilt block. I assure you I will make this. Thank you so much. Sandra B.
I hope that Jenny is well as she seems to be tired and lacking her usual spark. That said, even on a day when she seems to be struggling, her teaching and concepts are still well and away the best on the net. On a personal note, a simple way to do a Bargello quilt would be something I could really use. Best wishes from down under.
Jenny, I just dropped off my Ribbon Quilt of Valor at the County Fair here in Colorado.........even before the judging I received many compliments on the quilt.......I knew I loved this pattern but wanted each star to pop.....I was successful.......if I can figure out how to download a photo I will after the judging..........it is so beautiful that even if I do not walk away with the Grand Champion.....I will know it touched many hearts of the viewers........thank you for all you do to bring more patterns/inspiration to all of us.
Congratulations on your wonderful quilting accomplishment Janet! We would love to see a picture of your quilt sometime!
I never thought I could do this until watching you. Such an inspiration!
TY, Jenny Another Winner... God Bless
Now I'm excited I think I can make that star!!!
My favorite. LOVE STARS, and LOVE Jelly Rolls, And LOVE EASY :)
This is my first time using jelly rolls and I love the way it goes together so easily!
Another quilt that looks so difficult and you make it easy for us
+Cynthia Stark Oh, those are our favorites!! :) The ones that look difficult, but aren't!
I have been preparing for a small ribbon star project, but it never struck me to do the snowballing after each block was constructed. That will make the sewing go so much faster, without having to keep track of which side to snowball. Thank you!
After Jenny makes the square and snowball the corners...... I like it as a flower or tulip block and if I set it on point it would make an awesome quilt also.
Thanks so much Jenny. Another great tutorial. I am a novice quilter, living in SW France. No patchwork classes near to me.
You have been a great inspiration and I have just done the first of these blocks. I'm going to make a king size bed quilt.
Not quite sure how much fabric yardage I'm going to need though. Thanks for all your help.
Update: Finished my quilt 3 years ago. So pleased with it.

I can see using this little block on point to make a tulip for a wall hanging.
+Vocalist1969 Definitely!! :) So many options with this one!
Putting this on my to do list!!!
+Robin G Let us know if you try it out!!
Its beautiful, I am working on simple quilt that has center piece that am working around it with different color, this block can make super cute cushions that goes with it.. I will do that :) Thank you Jenny always nice stuff made easy!
Heather B to change the size of a block first take off the seam allowances, add or decrease the width of the strip, such as increase it to 3" then add the half inch seam allowances and this is the width strip you need. Start this block by cutting a square piece . . .
I just made this adorable quilt using Arbor Hill by Dover Hill Studio with Kona Solids-Snow for the background. Missouri Star even had 108 inch backer from one of the Arbor Hill selections. I usually work with batiks and Asian prints, so the Arbor Hill fabric was out of my repertoire. However, the results are stunning! It was a fun quilt to create and the first quilt I have done using one of Jenny's tutorials! Definitely, a favorite that I will do again.
Sounds beautiful Maxine! We would love to see a picture of this quilt sometime!
I love this !!!! so primitive !
Thank you Ayn!
that Rocked.
