So funny Larry! I bought my 1970 240z 2 July's ago for 19,500 (really clean!) and my wife was PISSED! (I heard its better to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission) LOL
Anyway, a red 1978 Datsun 280z was my first car I learned to drive on. Several years later I sold it after having a major rebuild, then minor valve issues. 3 years later I found a 240z in a backyard surrounded by weeds and bought it for 1,000.00. Happy to return to my first love, I slowly restored it until it was CLEAN & FAST. 1 week after a fresh paint job some kid driving his mom's car in Phoenix, AZ ran a red light and T-boned it! INsurance gave me a crappy 1700.00 (clean Z's were running 4k at that time) and I was effectively OUT of the Z lifestyle once again. I spend 20 years building my career and life, and after paying everything off (but my house) I decided for my 50th birthday to shop for a Z. I have her! And even though there are little things that need replacing here and there, JUST SEEING HER IN MY GARAGE WHEN I GO FOR A BEER BRINGS A COMFORTING SMILE TO MY FACE! (I recall Rob's details of your Orange Bang resto; nice work!)
I want driving footage like that playing on a loop in my garage while I work.
This video hit different for me. I've got a 78 280z that has been in pieces for almost 10 years now. Every day I dream about my boys being able to hop in and drive it. Thank you, Larry!
Make it happen!
Also have a 78 280z, currently rebuilding it in a way that will make it a forever car. Make it happen!
I have 78 280z also , just started driving after a 5 years restoration. It is a never ending project, but at least now I can enjoy it differently.
Get it done, get it fixed up and go enjoy it.
I should my 78 and regret it.😢
I remember following this build on Speedhunters years ago. It's so cool to see how far it's come & that you still own it. Good stuff Larry
oh my god. that driving footage. i could watch it forever.
This kind of thing, a 'forever car' project that goes all the way back, this is legit. I love the attitude behind something like this.
for whatever reason his wife said no,,,ahaha
Bc his dumb ass is sacrilegious
I can sympathize with his reasoning 😅
I grew up in Southern California. I spent many days running Mulholland highway and the canyon roads in Malibu on motorcycles and then later in a modified 89' CRX-Si. I moved to Michigan in 1995 and in 2002 sold my CRX-Si for a WRX. Watching you bomb those canyon roads brought back memories. Thanks
Larry Chen be the example of how baby face you can be, the adult life will caught up to you and still push through whatever the walls life throws at you. Keep on doing what you do Larry!
Awwwwww.... the luck of being an Asian......cuz We don't Raisin... forever young. 😆 😂
I love watching edits on your builds ! Your passion is just second to none!
I’m in the delivery rm and while the wife is asleep this was easing on the mind! Thanks Larry! Dope. been here for a while I surely remember this!!!!
so stoked this doesnt have that trash carb set up! sr20 is the perfect engine for this car
Lol he said you might not know about his 240 "Orange Bang" like we don't hear about it every episode. Thank you Larry
This is how a dream car is made, sounds so good!!!! One day I'll have one of those for my own! you're awesome man!!!
Beautiful Z. I had a 1973 240Z back in the day. Eventually swapped out the 240 motor and 4 speed for a 280 motor and 5 speed tranny. Wish I still had the car. Thanks for the drive down memory lane.
Lack of BGM made this feel special. Fantastic video. Love the interview style.
That beginning segment in the mountains was magical.
Theres all of about zero chance Larry would remember me: But I met Larry what feels like forever ago. Was tagging along at a track day with a friend at streets of willow (First time there), where Larry was attending. I had a Z myself (but not with me at the track), and some buddies had mentioned him- Oh this Larry guy, he takes fairly decent photos, hes got a z himself here at the track!
Immediately peaked my interest- So I had to go say hi.
We spoke for awhile about eachothers Zs (This was before it was SR powered, hed had it for a little at the time but not forever at that point), and then Larry offered to take me for a ride along in his Z on the track. Was my first time actually out on streets of willow, and it was such an awesome experience, to this day still one of the most memorable track ride alongs ive had.
Its been amazing seeing both the car, and larry grow, especially on this channel. I have nothing but praise for the guy and in the off chance you read this comment Larry id love to give you a much deserved and belated thank you again for such an awesome experience!
Hi Larry! Man, this was such an enjoyable vid and brought back memories for me as well.. Im 63 now, my 1st sportscar ,like you, was the 240z..mine was a rusty 72...I had Zero knowledge of Z's at that time and It was a new england, east coast car, full of rust in the worst Z places.. I paid 800.00 for it and was in heaven driving it home as a kid...It felt odd though and I later realised that the seller had secured sheet metal from the back of an old washing machine, to the floor under my seats! when I pulled the carpeting, there was an enormous hole on driver and passenger sides with that sheet metal put over it and secured with screws, the seats were attached to That!..
needless to say, I was royally taken for a ride, literally but I loved that car, even though it was a total piece and was orange, with black primer and grey bondo everywhere...
Stunning car, you should be proud.
One of the best Japanese cars available to the us in its time period. I'm glad to see my fav photo man has it and is willing to explore its possibilities.
Larry love your content pictures everything. Your 240Z is great. Watching your videos and now I want one. Lots of them here in the north east. I'm 62 now thank you.
Yeaj, Orange Bang is honestly on the verge of Legendary Car. 1 owner car bought by Larry Chen, modified by the best in the business, loved by everyone!
I watched this video and it makes me love my e30 more and more, it was my first project car when in university.
I had to add one more thing to the comment section. Thank you, Larry I always love this song at the end of your videos. This is like the perfect song when I hear this at the end of the video and the way you cut and edit with the different cars. Well, thank you over here on the big island of Hawaii.
Awesome video Larry. My neighbour had a few of these when I was growing up in the 90s and it's always been such a good looking car!
An incredible feature, Larry. Yourself and your talented team have captured some beautiful scenes of this gorgeous machine over the years and this video is an absolute testament to the time invested in the build and the dedication of your work. I appreciate this extremely soul filled piece of art mate, it was a pleasure to watch, cheers to many years of enjoyment of this wonderful machine
Best production ever Larry. Great work to the whole team.
It was a great moment for me when you snapped a photo of my son's black 77 280Z at OSW. It was his first car that we got when he was 14 and he has worked so hard over the last 5 years to make it into what it is today.
The picture never made the cut... but I can only imagine how many you have to sort thru after a day of shooting.
That chatter…reminds me of my old Turbo MR2 MK2. Great soundtrack and car. Thank you
Great story Larry, I had a ‘76 280, first car, paid 3K in 1980. Kept it going til about 2010. Parted with it reluctantly, guy bought it to teach his 13 yr old son some skills, discipline. Great photo work. Subscribed.
I had a rusty 260z as my first sports car. I can still remember the distinctive smells(exhaust fumes mainly…)as I watch you push the OrangeBang to the limit. Absolutely beautiful car and amazing production! We all feel your passion thru your amazing photos. Thank you so much for sharing your other passion. 2,100lb. of pure joy!!!
Hey Larry, shook hands with ya at the 2023 PPIHC fanfest as I was pulling in. I appreciate your dedication and hard work, capturing the automotive scene. There is always something new to learn when enjoying your content!.
Man it’s cool seeing any video that you have your hands in on you capture the essence of what car guys want to know hear and see. Thanks for all the great content over the years.
This is the car I know Larry Chen for, it’s a perfect fit. The way the car is… it’s an amazing vision and an absolute masterpiece. Years ago I didn’t understand why the car was SR powered but many years on….. I couldn’t see a more fitting power train for it. Here’s to more driving videos of Ole Orange Bang.
Awesome story and video! I've had my 1973 240z for 32yrs, I bought it when I was 19 and it's also my forever car! I ran the A052s on autocross for 2yrs on 16x8s but this year running the RE71RS, which also work really well. Looking fwd to seeing more Orange Bang content.
Larry! Your videos are THE best around. Keep up the great work and keep us auto enthusiasts motivated
That car is so dialed inn. Its tastefully done and has a timeless look like a 911. Perfect
Im suprised nobody has gone full "singer" on the 240z platform
It sounds incredible!
My dad had a 240Z in the 1970s. He absolutely loved that car and enjoyed his long drive to and from work through the rolling hills of central New York. Thank for this‼️
Makes all the right noises.....such eargasm
Such a beautiful build Larry Chen, thank you for sharing bro 😎
@LarryChen Thank you…after 10 years of ownership, and some mild updates throughout that time…I have officially started my Tengu project in my iPhone notes. Parts added and deleted since July 2012 when I took delivery. So why thank you? Well, your videos have shown me I need to enjoy my beloved underpowered RWD escape pod. I will never get tired or rid of her…now I have some amazing parts heading my way. See ya on the road 🤘🏾
Awesome story. As a writer and storyteller and car enthusiast, I love to hear these. Larry, keep going!👍🏿
So good too see how this things shaped up over the years. Rob is the MAN
Thank you so much for the very personal dive into your "legacy" car. It is part of you and it's more family than a car... please note this one hit me, currently building my 2nd chance at a 1st Gen Celica. It only took 30 years to from one to the other. Bless you for being a car guy
I remember the first time seeing your car on Speedhunters back in the day. I love the progression.
I love this video! Thank you for sharing part of your life with us.
Some many episodes on this magnificent beauty. Thanks for finally sharing this in its finale form. The driving shots in the canyons were choice.
Your 240z is the reason I got into old Datsuns. I remember seeing your first documentation of this car probably around the time you first got it or the first mods done to it. It to me is what a narrow body Z should be. Thank you Larry for doing all that you do
The Sound is awesome ❤
I think that has to be my favorite of Larry’s cars. Just everything about it is so pure. Looks absurdly fun up in the mountains. Sounds great too.
Brings back old memory of my first car as well which was a 280z 1978 I was 21 just didn't take of the car left at home where my parents after getting out of the military end up selling to an old high school friends. Then 10 years later I end up buying a 87 300zx and still have it in the garage motor taken apart and just sitting there until more money comes in it is what it is. All dreams don't come true to everyone so kudos for you bro Chen.
Very nice ride. Thanks Larry.
Larry, I appreciate you making this video! 😊
Great story behind the car - thanks! I bought the same colour 240z in 1997 and will never sell…..lots of improvements over time like you. It’s part of my DNA now…..and my kids
Larry, I love and appreciate your style, vibe, drive& professional way you share car culture! You are inspirational ! So thanks. 🤙🏻🫵🏻✌🏻. Take care
Thank you Larry for this video. Your car is one of the reasons why I finish my 280 Z. And your car looks a lot better with the new tires on it and I mean without the painted letters on the tires but that’s just my opinion. But I want to say thank you for your builder and the videos that you made that got me excited to finish my Z. Well, this is yours subscriber on the West Coast Los Angeles, but watching your videos over here on the big island of Hawaii.
Wow!! The turbo noises sound incredible 👌
The comment I love the most is " in true project car fashion, its pretty much never done", so so true!!
very humble, thx for sharing...the turbo flutter in combination with exhaust sounds really cool
This is one of my favorite cars. So good...
Glad you made a new vid of this old car. That SR 20 must feel wild being 49/50. Great build. Z’s need more love!
Great build and awesome story!

Loved the video, had the opportunity to see your Z multiple timrs and its beautiful! Hopefully i get the opportunity sometime in the future to get some pics of your Z next to my green 280z!
RS Watanabe just re-released the 4 spoke Watanabes, they would look so killer on this!

Dude.. thats a pretty car.. dont change anything on the outside...and the wheels are just perfect..well done.
Always enjoy all your amazing high quality content. 😊
I bought mine for 300 as a shell and 100 for the L24. Since then for almost 10 years it's been sitting in my garage. This is much inspiration I need but money is another thing.
Glad you found and kept your car. 🤙
Pure class Larry🙌
World class build, rad AF. Congrats
Amazing video as always ❤
You're the man Larry!
thanks Larry!
Larry your car looks and sounds 10/10👏 Also I think the story is amazing. Thanks to the potential buyer's wife for saying no you still own and enjoy your first sports car!
I feel the same way for my green Lancer . A forever car is worth treasuring
Beautiful car Larry!!!
Orange Bang is one of my favorite drinks and to name the Z after that is pretty sick. It fits very well! These car's are just so beautiful, it's a shame prices are only going up.
Such an amazing car, Larry, and one that inspires my ZCar lust. Maybe some day if they aren't all bought up or rusted away by then. Great content, as always.
OrangeBang!!! My favorite of your rides.

I always really enjoy videos on your "Orange Bang!". I hope to see it out at ZCON this summer. That's pretty special. love the build. Can you clarify the lic plate? I have been stumbling over it for a while now.
Wow, it's really a fantastic car 😍
Such a beautiful build, hoping to build and own a 240z even a fraction as cool as yours one day. Love the name too!
Love those old Z's - nice job!👍
