@sirlonghair: Also, HP 289 heads had the same port, combustion chamber and valve size as the standard early 289. What made them unique was that the heads were cast thicker with cast in provisions for screw in rocker studs and guide plates to use a solid lifter cam. Larger valves were an owner added modification, not factory. Now a Boss 302 is a different story when it comes to valve size.
