finaly, FX has found multiple regulators work better to step down pressure.
At my work (laboratory) for 1 analysis we have 3 regs in series to step down the delivered 200bar N2 cylinders to eventually ~30bar. 1st step does roughly to 50bar and then the last 2 regs do the precise work. as slight increase in pressure can have massive effect on some analysis we do.
Great to see this from FX, great competitor to the RTI Prophet/priest 2. with carbon bottles

When I first saw it, I thought it looked for all the world like a chassis wildcat. Woo-Hoo!!! Man, being able to lie in the grass and shoot! Not here. Central Texas. All Fire Ants, Scorpions, and everything stings here. I built a pcp hand gun equipped with a black light and green reflex dot sight just for hunting them. last summer I killed 1837 scorpions on my home range. They glow like bright green stars in the black light. LOL! When my own design hand cast HP's hit them they explode in a shower of green shrapnel. Love it@
Thanks for the vid. Matt. I'm excited over this new offering which doesn't happen very often.
I am currently still testing the Superior liner that FX made available to me before the release to the public. I removed the choke and it shot even better!
The Maverick looks like a handy light weight hunter. I'll be watching!!!

@@cmac1100 I wouldn’t worry much if you already have a relatively new crown or impact. The only difference seems to be the new plenum and double regs. In theory it makes the same power as both, it just seems a bit annoying with 2 regs. A lot of people automatically move to huma regs so will we now have to strap 2 in the gun.

Having spent a year, and having bought each component separately to convert my Dreamline Classic to the Dreamlite I wanted, and am now waiting and waiting to convert it to a bottle gun with a power plenum, I'm not feeling very inspired to buy something else from FX. Maybe FX ought to do a better job of supplying the promised parts for existing guns rather than making new ones instead? Quite frankly, if AirArms would make my 510XS into a lightweight skeletal gun, I'd put money into that instead. It's just as accurate and practically the same power.

Its the newest model with the slug and pellet transferport in one and sadly with he new plastic cheek piece with all the magazine problems. Fixed that myself and did contact the dealer about it. Did not change the gun but modified some off my magazines. On hammer setting 5 it does 216 shots at around 267 mtr 50J with the H&N 21 gr 217. Hi Matt: Sometime could you discuss the reason a longer barrel produces more velocity . With firearms it's obvious ,but with air guns it would seem once the air volume of the plenum approaches the barrel volume the pressure would gradually decrease to the point
pellet drag would decrease velocity. Are plenum volumes that large that they come close to barrel volumes?

    • @FarmerFpv
      @FarmerFpv Před 2 lety +3

Firearms work with pressure "expanding gas" as do airguns. So it's still the same concept. Pressure is pressure no matter how you generate it. The expanding gas or air has more time to push the pellet in a long barrel. It has nowhere to escape but the front so volume doesn't matter with most modern airguns even with small plenums put out more than enough air you will never see a barrel long enough to reach its limits. The only time it comes into play is with spring pistons or gas pistons as they compress air to 3000 psi in a millisecond which just the right length is important. long barrels don't improve accuracy as once the pellet leaves the barrel it's just a ballistic missile on its own. Barrels don't control pellets like dog trainers control dogs.

Matt you really need to talk with FX and see when they are going to make a helium version of their PCP air rifle line the power difference is night and day, with smaller calibers it would probably extend the range to nearly 400m and up the foot pounds by probably a hundred foot pounds or more.

Hey Matt, at around 15:00 you say that you would prefer the 700mm barrel and 580cc bottle version (I believe it's called the Sniper) for heavier pellets or slugs.
I am currently thinking about buying the Maverick. I won't hunt with it, as it is not allowed where I live. It will be purely for recreational shooting to around 60m, so there would be no need to go with a high power setup or even slugs.
I was thinking of getting a .22 and running it around 40joule/30ft/lbs, which is around what most standard air guns in .22 seem to produce.
I currently own a dreamline in 4.5mm and 7.62mm. I'd like a bit larger caliber, but the 7.62 in the dreamline is just a pain because you only get around 30 shots per fill.
I love the design of the Maverick and also the efficiency. With a moderate power setup, I could easily get 100's of shots per fill and still have a reasonably flat trajectory and decent speed with a standard weight pellet.
Would you say though, that the Maverick might not be the best air gun for me? I suppose it is meant to be more of a high performance gun.
I know this video is 3yrs old, so if anyone else maybe wants to chime in instead of Matt himself, any input and recommendations are welcome! :)
Maybe even a rough tuning setup for standard JSB .22 pellets as far as reg pressure is concerned.
Should I go with the compact over the sniper? The idea was that the sniper version has a much bigger tank and also better efficiency with the longer barrel.
I almost exclusively shoot from a bench, so mobility or weight is no concern.

Sure! It is much cheaper than FX Impact, but in cost of the advantage of Bullpup-total length. So the highlight of this tiny monster is the shot count because of the bottle and the other I think it should be the powder potential due to the large integrated plenum. Whatever it looks not bad!

Just got approved for my pre-order I just can’t decide whether to go sniper or compact in .30
I mainly want to keep the length down but I also want the most power. Decisions!...

Fantastic instructive video made in Matt,
I'm excited, I have a Maverick Sniper cal .22 for about 3 weeks at home, preparing it for the first shot as soon as the weather is better.
It is clear that you used PW2 for JBS 16grains, PW3 for 22 grains FX Hybrid slugs.
What was the PW setting for other projectiles?
Did you use the same Power Wheel setting when shooting at 50 and 100m?

I doubt that I will get a reply being that your life is so busy but here goes. I like the MK3 Wildcat and I like the Maverick. I do pest control for my county and farmers. I need the adjustable nature of these two guns due to situations and they both have that. The Mavericks dual regs are intriguing to say the least but still…light, short, maneuverability, super accurate, .22 cal FAC… affordable. Which would you suggest?

The FX hybrids have always been more stable for me at or above 970 fps. the higher 990 fps the better they grouped at 100+ yards. But still, the versatility of the Maverick is rad! I want one, Going to get one from Utahair guns with FDE cerakote. They also have the slug power kit which should make it more of a beast. We need an update video MATTHEW!!!

I'd love to see what FX could do as far as putting out a entry level gun like a $500 gun,
I think it would be great for their business because once you hook a loyal customer a lot of times you can keep them for life,as far as a gun maybe something like the Avenger but with a little bit better stock a little bit better trigger and it doesn't have to be an impact level trigger just not plastic ,a real metal cocking lever simple things like that, it would get their name out there more also, I'm not saying sell it at Walmart LOL, but I'm sure they're going to Depot or pyramid hair would be delighted to have something with the FX name on it that they could sell in the $500 range

Hi Matt i.m Brian from South Africa i been loving the maverick since i.m a beginner with fx air guns but for power and reliability fx for me is a a top of the pack especially now that slugs are becoming people,s number 1 ammunition because of ballistics and how much would an maverick. 22 with 800mm barrel two 580cc 300 bar bottles and sum performance upgrades for slugs coz i only shoot long range shoots so slugs are my best ammunition to shoot
