Dude anytime I go to write a song I just think of what Alex Turner would say and I hit writers block because that dude is an amazing lyricist. I’m a huge nerd and love English; but the words he chooses are words I’d never think to say and or use. I do believe listening to this band can help enhance one’s vocabulary.

I can’t help but keep coming back to this video, with my headphones on and the volume up high. I’m a 62 year old grandfather, I drink whiskey, vodka and Sherry now instead of rolling spliffs and grazing on ‘shrooms’ but I still play air guitar to this, while my wife sleeps and snores in her recliner! God I wish I was 19 again. This so reminds me of our garage band in the late 70s, thrashing away on my Les Paul copy through a Peavey combo with my mates on their Fender Jazz bass and cheapo Japanese strat copy and a battered Premier drum kit that had seen many better days! Youth is definitely wasted on the young. Love live rock. 😎✌️

@@raymondvaughan6262 Writing as someone who thoroughly enjoyed The Jam when they were around, they were extremely inconsistent, releasing possibly two fine albums and a lot of filler. Arctic Monkeys in 2005/6 showed all the energy, spark and songwriting that Weller, Foxton and Buckler had previously demonstrated. Their career since then has borne out that early promise.

This song will forever stay an absolute banger. WPSIM is easily my favourite album of the band and the one I hold dearest to my heart. It's a masterpiece from beginning to end, youthful, cheeky, playful. The topics Alex Turner is discussing may seem childish or superficial but he's put them into words in such a way that you can't help but admire his lyrical genius. And the lyrics are not even the highlight of the album for me, it's the banging rhythm, guitar solos and just how each song sounds completely different and original but is a complete banger alone, and in the context of the others. Unfortunately, I won't ever experience listening to this album live the way they used to play it back in 2006/7. Obviously artists grow and evolve, not necessarily into something better but something different. The energy WPSIM had is incomparable to newer stuff from the Monkeys and other newly-emerging bands but maybe that's why it will stay so special for me and a whole generation that was there to experience it in their teen years.

I remember catching these dudes a couple of times when they were on tour for their first album and they demolished the stage....I have seen them many other times (just them or in festivals) and they never had that early punk energy, I understand that they have matured as musicians and Alex has become a better lyricist but man do I miss those early gigs.

@@jukaa1012 I would say FWN has some great songs and them on that tour with those two albums in their belts made up for some greats sets the two times i saw them, also humbug has a couple of cool songs. However i saw them on the Tranquility hotel tour and man they almost put me to sleep, and i understand they have to mature and they are expanding their sound and are better musicians but in a live setting? its not even close, and all those tunes from the first 3 albums are being relegated waaaay back simply because that sound doesnt fit what they are doing now. Also when you say fell down, eehh idk, they are one of the biggest rock acts out there and a lot of plp go see them. I just prefer them in a dingy old club, with the stage close so you can stage dive and jump with them on stage while they play. it was just a different experience and that 1st album they came out swinging for the fences. powerful raw fun record. Did you also got a chance to see them live back then and now?? How was your experience?

I miss the old Alex too. Yes, people change and music changes and I'm happy there are new fans that enjoy their new stuff, but I personally grew up with the first two albums and I really miss awkward nervous Alex. To each their own but to me, this is nostalgia.
