It is loosely based on the 7869 story, using the characters (Arthur Harrison/Funmaker Doomguy and Daniel Thompson/Doomguy.WAD/Eratosthenes) and story beats (the house in MAP02, the warning) but still being its own thing (Arthur's fate after his death, Daniel finding BF and GF in Quake 3 Arena during the YCR mix)
