  • A halftime break in the NFL is usually 13 minutes long. However, in a 1998 game between the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs, the halftime break was just six minutes. This is the story behind the shortest halftime break in NFL history, and the circumstances that led to this bizarre decision.

Seems to me as though the Seahawks' unis have gotten progressively worse since they realigned to the NFC. The silver and blue with the logo on the shoulder stripe was, IMO, one of the best looks in NFL history, the steel blue was worse, but still relatively clean because the unique colors were paired with a more conservative design, and the Nike redesign is pretty much an eyesore. The striping is horrifically busy in that gaudy "action green," the fake panel on the top of the helmet is incredibly unnecessary, the number font is appalling, and the navy jerseys take on a purplish hue in direct light, which doesn't match the color scheme at all and clashes with the helmet, which does not change color in direct light. It's a design that seems like it was only meant to work in a Nike advertisement, which, are you really all that surprised?

My story about this game goes, the next day at school while I was waiting to start basketball practice, some workers fixing the locker room were trying to remember who was in the Sunday night game. “A coupl’a nobodies” was the response he got after a fairly long silence. My takeaway from this recollection is that whoever gave that answer was wrong at the time, but right after the fact. Neither team made the playoffs.

I grew up a Rams fan in the 80s & the NFC West was the Rams, 49ers, Falcons & Saints! A most recent oddity is the Colts were in the East with the Patriots until 2001, the Carolina Panthers were in the NFC West & Arizona Cardinals were in the NFC East. I’m convinced the NFL doesn’t understand Geography.

In September of 2018, the Titans & Dolphins had an even SHORTER halftime! In that game, there were four hours of lightning/rain delays, causing the entire game to last an incredible 7-hours & 10-minutes! The first delay came with 1:11 remaining in the second-quarter, and so when play resumed, the players didn't leave the field at halftime, which lasted only three-and-a-half minutes!
