Spicee is an absolute legend. He held the wr for most of the qualifier, and was the only runner to get a sub 2 hour in the first phase of the tournament

I'm here after the tourne and it was a great competition happy to have watched it and learn a lot of different strats and congrats on the event as a whole waifu🎉
I have to say that, as a casual player but one that still likes to "go fast", speedruns are an excellent resource for learning things about games. Their drive (in a case like this, also helped by financial incentive) to break games over their knees goes a long way to reveal how games tick and are immensely helpful even for casual players.
what I'm saying is that I thank you for your service, players like me may never make money, but we get entertainment in watching the participants, and it helps us beat the in-game provided challenges and achievements. Not to mention the archival aspect of the timeline

As someone currently fighting my way through the game on Assisted mode, I know I'll never be anywhere near good enough to speed run this or probably any of the 100's of PS5 games I own lol So I especially have to thank you for this video and what has shown a fascinating insight into a speedrunning tournament, which I believe is the first vid I've ever seen that ever covered a tournament in depth! :) It's fascinating to see all the glitches and tricks used and the immense talents on show, but the bonus of the insider look at the tournament so far has been really entertaining and informative, so thanks! :)
Thanks Waifu for putting the event together, it was such a blast watching both the runners & listening to the casters during each round!
Nothing but respect for that gigachad that instead of getting demoralized about the FPS rule just went ahead a did another run only to end up PBing and on the last day available for qualification.

I swear Capcom designed this game for Speedruns.
They 100% designed it with speedrunners in mind.
First village fight can be skipped by shooting the bell. The crane section can be skipped by throwing 2 heavy nades at it.
The turret shooting at Mike can be destroyed with grenades.
It's clear this game was meant to be speedran
Resident Evil has a timer. Thats what make these games replayable.
It always amazes me how much planning, skill, and tenacity go into these RE speedruns. I could never do stuff like this even if I tried with a detailed guide.

Hey Waifu, I've been watching your videos for a very long time now (love your content!) and I was just wondering something about the rules that were set for the tournament. How were the pre-order items dealt with ? Were the participants able to use/sell the two bonus weapons or even use the pre-purchased cases/charms ?
The checkpoint skip to skip mendez can be skipped by crouching holding back infront of the merchant table with your back against the wall and entering and exiting the merchant menu while still holding back.
Man, this is going to be insane. This is going to come down to execution and any ace up someone's sleeve, though I'm not sure that will be happening.
No one has any aces that isn't known about, nullifying the ace entirely.

On one of my professional casual runs I took out the turrent with only one heavy grenade. Idk if this will help or something

I’m so glad I decided I wasn’t good enough to enter. I love RE4 and 4make. But I’m just NOT good enough to do a speed run. I missed most of these developments on skips and routing.
I would have loved to do the speed run but I only have it on PS5. I wonder if Waifu would do like a multi category speed run race?

You think speedrunning this game is under discussed? It's literally been the entirety of my CZcams feed for the last few weeks. There's so much buzz around all the little tricks you can do to save time. I think it's definitely helping to push speedrunning towards the mainstream because plenty of people I know who normally have no interest in this sort of thing are talking about it and taking part in it.

i swear man, when you work on something that close to deadline.. things start interesting, i used to do my homework till 6-12 hour left and that pressure kinda give me some boost like what qtt did in this tournament (if im not wrong his nickname)

God I wish I ran the event now... I have 120 hours in the game and ran dozens of runs. I just felt pressured to enter my first event so I never sent a video let alone set up video streaming. My favorite game of all time and I didn't try to be a God gamer.

For those who are really familiar with the rules what do they do when a lot of the glitches have already been patched?
I would assume since they're playing on PC they have figured out a way to play the original game day one release version and use that one but I could be wrong
Most speedruns that are at all taken seriously play on downgrades versions of the game. Pretty much everything even sm64

Why was FPS glitch banned but sniper glitch allowed? Seems unfair.
fps mechanics are generally not used in speedruns since they can encourage a pay to win ruleset since people will less capable hardware cannot perform the techniques with the same consistency as people with more powerful rigs.

I have to be honest, I was a Resi 4 speedrunner, but i've given up on even attempting to run R4R. Within 12 hours, the game was being workshopped by hundreds of people in discords, creating skips a regular person never could. Why even try when you don't have 12 hours a day to dedicate to just playing? The internet has killed gaming.

The rise of streamers and the monetization of people's attention has really changed the feel of the community for me. I must just be old. It's a strange feeling to watch thousands of people jump into a hobby because they have a parasocial relationship with someone who has a financial incentive to play video games 12 hours a day. The flavor of the month e-celebs will move on, and then the game will be "dead", or at least, the community will be the size it would have actually been, had it not been inflated for hype and money. It's just my 2 cents. Still an amazing game.
Speedruns are a guilty pleasure of mine. Instead of appreciating video games as an art form, these people just gobble video games like they are a fast food-eating, slobbering cow that should eat some vegetables from time to time.

I personally prefer glitch-less runs because then you get things like elden ring speed run. Who can glitch at the first 2 minutes of the game the fastest to beat the final boss in sub 5 minutes.

"PC Only" - why? What is the benefit of eliminating 50% of the potential playerbase except for "Pc MaStErRaCe"?
No, rather than try and inflame things and get all worked up, why not do some background for yourself on it - don't get annoyed at things you don't understand, makes you look a right idiot. Consoles can't perform, or reliably perform, some of the tricks, skips, and glitches, due to how it functionally works compared to PC - console runners would stand no chance against PC runners. You could ask why not ban certain glitches, skips, etc.... but that would be a huge list that would take runners a huge effort to keep track of what was/was not allowed, and it would also be a way slower run. Whole point is fastest runs/under 2 hours.

Because running on consoles is fucking garbage and hardly works. Nothing is stopping you from running on consoles, but communities setting up their own events are allowed to have their own rules and restrictions.

Full disclosure this falls squarely in the pet peeve category, but I'm begging RE4 speedrunners to pronounce El Gigante correctly. Just like how in English, a g makes a j-sound when before an i or e, the same happens in Spanish, only its the SPANISH j-sound. So El Gigante is pronounced El HE-gante (he as in he/him)
