2023年12月，我們專程到深圳大芬村找『趙小勇工作室』，探訪趙小勇真人的最新近況。2016年紀錄片電影《中國梵高》結束之後，究竟他的創作之路怎樣走？如何為生計而臨摹，如何堅持構思更多原創作品。和他輕鬆閒聊，沒有包袱，特別投契。他沒有進過中學，更遑論上藝術學院，生活的閱歷令他侃侃而談，期望觀眾把影片看完，感受這位認認真真的性情中人。
《中國梵高》講述深圳大芬村的外銷油畫製造工業，於1989年由香港畫商黃江創立，製造大量仿製名畫及加工出口等，發展至2015年巔峰期達6500萬美元的市場總額。該片由國內著名攝影藝術家余海波與女兒余天琦共同導演，於2016年荷蘭阿姆斯特丹國際紀錄片影展（ADFA）首映，甚獲激賞。片中展現九十年代中國外省民工離鄉別井，於珠三角民房工廠謀生之窘迫，同時亦提出藝術與抄襲、與商業、與金錢、與理想種種矛盾下，如何取得平衡，益發讓人深思。

We, HaBa had the incredible opportunity to meet Zhao Xiaoyong, a migrant worker turned painter who gained recognition through the acclaimed documentary 'China's Van Goghs' one day near the end of 2023. We found his gallery studio in Dafen Village and chatted with him while he welcomed potential customers and provided tours of his paintings. In addition to skillfully imitating the works of Van Gogh, Zhao is also creating original pieces that showcase his connections with the profound artist. Despite never attending middle school or an art college, Zhao's life experiences have shaped him into an expressive painter. "Van Gogh in China" is a captivating documentary that delves into the fascinating story of Dafen Village, the epicenter of Shenzhen's oil painting manufacturing industry. The village was established in 1989 by Huang Jiang, an art merchant from Hong Kong. Over the years, the industry of imitating canonical paintings has flourished, reaching an impressive market value of US$65 million at its peak in 2015.
Directed by the father-daughter duo Haibo and Kiki Tianqi Yu, the film premiered at the prestigious 2016 Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival (ADFA). Through down-to-earth storytelling, "Van Gogh in China" raises questions about the conflicts between art and plagiarism, as well as the delicate balance between art, commercial viability, and personal ideals
