London Buses 1988-Routemasters at Oxford Circus and Oxford Street

- It's a cold January morning in 1988 and i'm in central London after a night shift. Routes 25 & 53 were due for OPO conversion in the near future which is what prompted me to get out with my camera. We see RM & RML's at work on routes 3, 7, 8, 12, 13, 15, 25, 53, 73, 135, 137 & 159 at Oxford Circus, New Cavendish Street and Oxford Street. Another classic 80s special 👍👍👍 and not just the RMs just about every other vehicle in the video is memory gold for anyone born pre 1980s...
Just hearing the sound of the engines is magnificent, I don't quite know noise buses make now.......there just there..

The 53 was my local route, I grew up using it a lot. In the late 60's I lived at Camden Town and used to take it from Camden Gardens or route 3 to see my nan at Mead Row, Lambeth North. Then I lived at Abbey Wood, then Plumstead Common now at Blackheath. Nice bit of film.

My Mum and Nan used to ride on these buses to get to work. Before I was born.

A very rare sighting, the minibus on the C2 at2:24is an Optare CityPacer. 😮 They didn't last very long because the VW chassis they were based on wasn't up to the job
If one were to travel back in time somehow and find themselves in London in the year 1988, I honestly do wonder what it would feel like knowing you're literally 'living in the past' yet nobody in this 'past' would know this about you, or would somebody catch on? More importantly how would it feel living in a world that you deem as 'the past' while everyone around you goes about their daily business, living their lives and making their own history? Remember, to them its the world in the present. The year is 1988 and so much of history you'd know about has not taken place. Yet here you are, stood in Oxford Circus and the year is 1988. That to me is quite unsettling.
The closest you will get to visiting the past is through film. It is impossible to travel 'back' in time. Enjoy the memories.
January 1988 and already a London Buses roundel rears it's head. Did they apply the fIrst one at the stroke of midnight on January 1st??
At least they were all powered by Associated Equipment Company motors.
