Context is everything...this song swam in the same era as the return of rockabilly, the knowledge of Billy Idol, the popularization of new punk rock and it's a damn good song.
Now that's a confident music video! Couldn't be me being the sole focus of a video where it's just a spotlight, me, and a fine ass dancing. Groovy tune too
I know. I looked and looked for it thinking I imagined the song and video back in the 80's, but I knew that wasn't true. Long before George Michael and his leather jacket and tight jeans in his Faith video there was John Eddie and Jungle Boy. Who knows? This video may have inspired George Michael's.
I've seen him live countless times, and I can recall his doing this song only once. I get the sense he's got some resentment for how he was marketed during the 80s as "the next big thing". It says a lot that his first self titled album uses the E Street Band as his backing musicians-his record company was trying to make him out to be the "next Springsteen". Hopefully he'll get around to doing live shows again; he seems to have gone into cold storage since COVID.
Ya gotta know the man, the songwriter he is, his history.....and you have to see him live! He only gets better with age! Proud Faithful since 1983 when I was sneaking into bars with a fake ID!;-)
this brings back some great memories -unknowingly, I hooked up with his then girlfriend in the summer of '85, because he was too busy focusing on his career and she was bored...
I remember seeing him live at the old Pulsations nightclub in Media, PA. He shared the stage with Henry Lee Summer on a couple of tunes, one of which was a cover of Elvis' "Suspicious Minds"
love this i bought the vinyl album after hearing this .and got to meet John Eddie on my 50th at The Wonder Bar 6th April 2012 while on my pilgrimage to Asbury Park to see Bruce Springsteen.John sang and dedicated `Born to Run` to me that night .Thanks J.E.
Oh the memories this groove!! I loved this song!! it made our small town options known to everyone!! Yes, we cruised to the Burger King parking lot to hang out too. 😜 It actually made us ok with the idea that others hung out at there area BK's too!!!😄😄
Dont know what made me think of this after so long but i decided to take a look.Ya know just to see if the song and rhythm lived up to my faded memory. It does! Loved it then and still do.I guess i'll be a jungle man.
Was thinking the same thing myself! I guess this was this guy's biggest hit. He had a kinda cool name. John Eddie. This video reminds me of the film Eddie and the Cruisers.
Gotta give him major props. Great song, and he - and the video director - makes it an extremely entertaining video to watch, even though he is the only one in the entire video. Well done on all levels.
Vasili Natsis at the time when this was released ,I remember it being promoted as "What Elvis Would Sound Like Today" If He Was Alive & Doing New Wave Rock Music
I remember thinking he was trying to imitate Elvis, both with his voice and the snarly lip thing. Actually didn't think k he was doing to bad of a job of it. Lol. To bad this is the only song I remember, but surprisingly he was one of the performers at the 1986 Amnesty International Concert. He came on I think late morning or sometime around noon.
Well Jon Eddie was influenced by Gary Glitter & Elvis Presley. He said himself that who this song was compared to. Listen to the music at the start classic Glitter beat
I remember when this album was released. The record label was ALL IN on this guy with ads on TV, MTV video rotating this stupid video, and major record stores like Warehouse, Tower, and Sam Goody had this guy's poster in their stores. The music is outdated for 1986. This was better suited for release either in the late 70s or early 80s when Mellencamp, Springsteen, Money, and Journey were rockin' the white dude singing in blue jeans look. Bryan Adams has all the qualities and better songs AND he played guitar.
I found John Eddie by accident. I bought the "F--king Forty" single at a thrift store. Some of his newer songs are really good. And if you are in the NY/NJ area, he perfroms here. I plan to go see him in January in AC. Search his name and you can find more info on his website.
If you're just a buff then you probably know 30% of what came out in the 80s. I remember this guy and he was a bust but he was heavily promoted by his record label. The song and look are all wrong for the time it was released. American listeners were already embracing L.A. Hair bands (Motley Poo, Guns 'n Poses), Hip Hop/Rap, and more refined bands and solo artists like Sting, Phil Colon, Toto, Chicago/Peter Cetera, and British Rock/Pop bands. This guy should have been on Shanana in the 70s, nothing more.
@@Kharing John Eddie released this song and video a couple of years before George Michael and his leather jacket / tight jeans look in his Faith video. If anything, George Michael's Faith video and look were inspired by this video. They HAD to be because they're so similar. Eddie couldn't have copied George Michael. It had to be the reverse.
This video sure beats the one of the "boys" in Joe Boxer shorts ringing their bells. BTW, someone said this video has nothing to do with "jungles". It depends on how you define jungles and in what era. This is more in line with the older "blackboard jungle" type of the 50's... not tropical jungles.
If that's the case then John owes Gary Glitter $ for using the beginning of Rock n roll part 1 at the beginning..due to him being influenced by Gary Glitter
@Cerbian "George Michael came out first." Man, that's one of the funniest things I ever read! Actually, George didn't "come out" for years after that. OH, you mean the leather jacket thing? Sorry. Hilarious!
Nah, both John and George were emulating the rockabilly greaser look. You could also argue that John owes George royalties for stealing his "Wham" haircut because George's hairdo by 1987 was short cropped and greased with blond highlights and those Gay Biker sunglasses LOL
for the record, JE recorded this video before George Michaels'. George M. was associated with the label and some of the people responsible for the video and he ripped off the style/concept. (firsthand knowledge)
DID he have any idea how utterly homoerotic this vid is ? Did his manager warn 'im ? Did 'e care ? I'd dare say not. He'd have looked a lot hotter here with a military high and tight instead of that big 80s hair, though.
Context is everything...this song swam in the same era as the return of rockabilly, the knowledge of Billy Idol, the popularization of new punk rock and it's a damn good song.
I used to be a club dj back in the time period, I made sure that song got played every night. I loved it and the crowd loved it.
Now that's a confident music video! Couldn't be me being the sole focus of a video where it's just a spotlight, me, and a fine ass dancing. Groovy tune too
I've searched for this for YEARS. I always confused this with Tarzan Boy by Baltimora. THIS was the song i wanted!! Cool memories!

Haven't seen this since MTV circa '86. Great song!
I loved this song in 1986. One hit wonder. Too bad he was great and so was his music.
Nice that Kid Rock and Brantley Gilbert got attention with some of his more recent songs.
Who the hell is john Eddie play petty
Family Tree is really good.
Have you never heard his hit "Pretty Little Rebel"? Good down and dirty rock n' roll! You will like.
Love this song; and I always will.

This song really defies the EIGHTIES.

Hair-to-head thickness ratio is off the charts.
I ran 4 drags on Front Street in Philly while this guy was
making songs about us.

Same here I swear 😆
It just popped into my head. No reason!
Still remember the 7 words Gino Mitchellini said back in June 1986:
"Come on, let's get up and dance!"
At least it's an awesome head shaker!
Only in the 80s.
Was thinking the same thing myself! I guess this was this guy's biggest hit. He had a kinda cool name. John Eddie. This video reminds me of the film Eddie and the Cruisers.
Jungle Jack Perry should use this as his entrance theme!
I agree this would have been more suitable for Jack
Is this guy for real? This is hilarious.
Lived that state love this song

Really ?? 🥴😆
Haven't seen this in decades. Great track. The video is like an 80s Elvis/George Michael mash-up though. 😃
Oh yeah...so many great shows there..

Love what you can do with a catchy riff, some charisma and great editing...cost of shoot must have been under $1000!

do not forget Joey from Full House

If George Michael had a stunt double, it would be John Eddie.
This was well before the faith video. Perhaps George borrowed a bit?

ol skool jam this got airplay on black radio because of the beat this sounds great in the stripclub so much bass

Peaked as high as No. 52 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. A very great, underrated track. Hilariously bad video, though LOL.
@toastichedu That's the '80's for ya. :)
I Thought He was imitating Shakin' Stevens.Still better than a lot of songs released then
I wonder how many straight guys have smirked and given a derisive snort at this vid ever since.
Weird random kingkoung classik
I hear a lot of Bruce Springsteen as well. Besides, if Elvis had been alive then would have still been doing Country Rock.
GGGGGAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!
I love this song, but why is this middle aged man singing about the cop hassling him at the burger shop and trying to court a high school girl?
George Michaels inspiration 🥴🤫 this video probably wasn’t his best moment
When does he start doing moonsaults?
is that Elvis?
