      can use ^zhang^ >> yi zhang minbao..

      We use yi pian mianbao instead of yi zhang mianbao. Zhang are more like SHEET in English,like a sheet of paper "yi zhang zhi"

    It makes sense to have measure words for a tonal language with limited syllables. That way, you're clear on what object is intended when the tones might be tricky. I speak Cherokee, another tonal language with limited syllables, and we don't have measure words, but the rest of the context of the sentence has to tell us if something can be mistaken, so this seems so efficient to me.

      "an" and "the" are actually measure words in English. They also identify when you have a choice among one or many objects.
      Think of it this way, An is short for any and The is short for this or that.

    It would be nice to add a small extra explanation about how MWs are used with "ji" and "duoshao". I noticed in another video that when we ask "how many" we use MWs but when asking "how much" we don't. It is obvious (or at least, if understood it correctly...) as one advances on higher levels but it is something that I struggled a lot with at first, before I really understood the MW use and meaning. Thank youfor another very informative video!

He found it's even more profitable. And other owners of wine shops followed him and did the same thing. Eventually, they gave up the business of selling wine and made the wine shops into hotels.

      Good question!

    • @AskAndy
      @AskAndy  Před 3 lety

      Actually we don't differentiate countable or uncountable nouns in Chinese. Those two concepts are from English.

    • @AskAndy

      You can use 个 for 新闻 and 消息。个 only works for 信息 when it means MESSAGE instead of INFORMATION.

    I think western languages like English, Spanish, Portuguese don't have measure words. When we refer to something we want to talk about the thing itself, without intermediary words. Therefore, it is very difficult for us to work with the so-called Chinese measure words.

    请问,为什么中国人一般来说根 "几" 用量词,可是跟 "多少" 不用什么量词呢? 比如:你学院有几个系? vS 你学院有多少老师?

    • @AskAndy
      @AskAndy  Před 3 lety +1

      这是现代汉语的双音节化现象。"几"加一个量词就是两个字(双音节),而"多少"已经是两个字(双音节)了。
