- Shelfside review Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile, an area control board game from Leder Games that lets players guide the course of history, as outcomes of a game will affect the setup of future Oath games! One player will start off as the Chancellor, everyone else is an exile trying to overthrow their little tabletop empire. There are shifting win conditions players will fight over, and every passing round brings the Chancellor closer to victory. With everyone having 6 possible actions, Oath is simpler in basic rules structure than one might think, but everyone's abilities start to get out of control as more and more cards are drawn from the world deck! Oath consistently tells amazing stories, and everyone's worlds will be unique from one another, leading to endless gameplay narratives for your game nights to make your own history. The components and art by Kyle Ferrin all look great, with colorful wooden meeples, plenty of dice and tons of cards to use as sites, denizens, and relics! Though, maybe the chronicle book should've come with the base game...

Hey Daniel and Ashton, I discovered your channel a little while ago but have been checking it out more lately... just wanted to say you guys are killing it! This has to be one of the best reviews ever, and definitely the best one I've seen so far for Oath (and I say that having done one ourselves on our channel, which we felt really good about, but this is like a third of the length). You guys covered so much about this game in like 8 1/2 minutes (not counting the outro). Haven't seen a speed review like this yet. I also watched a good chunk of your Tainted Grail one recently, and you guys clearly put a TON of time and effort into that and it's super in-depth, and probably the ideal review for someone who's actually wondering whether or not they want to buy the game... for me, as someone who never feels like I have enough time to watch all the board game videos I want on CZcams, this one was really a breath of fresh air. I wish I had time to watch all your videos, but I had to take a minute to comment on this one because it's a real standout. I shared it in a recent thread on Reddit about best board game reviews, I hope more people check it out. Looking forward to seeing what else you guys have in store for the channel, and hope to meet you guys some day at a convention or something and play some games. - Carlo

@@Shelfside Dylann (other half of AYCB) and I have never been to a convention either, we were starting to think we were the only ones! One day it'll happen though, when it feels safer, hopefully sooner rather than later. I mostly just meant you guys seem like the type of people we'd love to game with, and a convention seems like the most natural place to meet. Anyway, take care and keep up the awesome work on the CZcams channel.

So, this is def my favorite boardgame, but I can NEVER get it to the table. It only made my sister cry once.

So you definitely need a 3rd player?😅 How bad is it between 2?
I havn't tried 2, but I have a feeling it would completely suck for me because it heavily diminishes the biggest reason I play which is for the political roleplaying and table theatrics. The game's mechanics aren't finely balanced but that's not really the point when all the whacky cards and win conditions are there to setup amazing emergent narratives through gameplay, which 2 player doesn't take as much advantage of imo.

Im really interested in Oath... But the dice combat really throws me off =\
I mean dice combat is what it is lol. If you dislike it from other area control board games, Oath probably isn't gonna change that unless you're super into the narrative of the game over its mechanics.
