    They are used to protect the truck and accidents associated with the truck. It’s not easy to stop or avoid crashes when you have a 80,000lbs vehicle.

      No they are horrible first the driver can’t do a proper circle check to see if the nuts have loosened off. Same with nut covers they are dumb.

    People: I'm crying to the news to justify my irrational fear of semis being dangerous on the highway to cover for my own dangerous negligence around large trucks. Proof is I got too close to one in a toll lane and it almost ripped my door off even though the lug covers are only manufactured in plastic I have to make a point please help me *cry cry cry*
    Trucker: Dude just give me some room
    News: Truckers with metal spikes are a safety hazard because we need more room than they do on the highway because our overwhelming sense of entitlement.

    hypothetical scenario here: the right lane is merging left and everyone is in the left lane. a gentleman with the highest degree of manners decides to bypass everyone in the merge lane and cut in front of me. I, a rude brute, refuse to let him cut everyone in line. he then tries to merge into me, thinking I'll move. I don't. Unfortunately for the gentleman who's importance is far above everyone elses, I have spikes protruding from the lug nuts on my vehicle. I accidentally tear up the side of the gentleman's car and pop his tire when he merges into me. Me being the rude brute I am, don't stop and let him figure it out.

  • @richardsattazahn3052
    @richardsattazahn3052 Před 2 měsíci +1

    it is not the spikes tearing it up it is the grade 8 lug bolts doing the damage

  • @poppyhimbo
    @poppyhimbo Před 3 měsíci

    Mostly all the comments defend the truckers and say don't get close if you are in a car. I drive a portion of I-95 everyday through Maryland and I can tell you that so many tractor trailers drift into other lanes ALL the time! I feel the reason they have these spikes is so when the driver starts to nod off behind the wheel it acts like a curb feeler to wake them up when it scrapes against a jersey wall or other vehicle. I got rear ended by a rig that was coming into my lane and spun me 360 across to lanes and into the median strip. Thank God there was no other cares next to me or a jersey wall there so I was able to skid off the highway. These trucks are so dangerous and the drivers need to treat them that way!

  • @14arma
    @14arma Před 22 dny

    No, these are actually safer than standard nuts. They improve the flow of traffic. Without them, cars will get jammed on their attempt to pass a truck and end up stuck at the same speed as the truck creating a much more dangerous situation behind them. Before we think about making these illegal, we need to start enforcing left lane laws more.

    I was born and raised in trucking parents owned a bunch of trucks when I was a kid ..y been driving for 28 years now. I don't see nothing wrong with guys expressing themselves with a set of spikes but they shouldn't be wider than the legal width. As far as those Shark Teeth Grill covers . I SAY HECK NO !! gives a bad image of truckers

    I get the argument that you don’t have to worry about it if you aren’t in their space, but what about when the truck gets in your space. I cannot be the only one who has almost been pulverized by a semitruck not paying attention and almost sandwiching me into something. I think these spikes should have better regulations like Hawaii. They are very intimidating when driving next to a semi at 75 mph. It’s like something out of Mad Max.

      My friend you have a good point, but a piece of advice try to stay away from pick towing vehicles and semi. if you are in a rush , accelerate or slow down but evoid driving next to them onless to pass them

    • @jasonevers7415
      @jasonevers7415 Před 8 měsíci

      They’re plastic and will break as soon as they hit something. You should be more worried about the steel lugnuts inside them. The car in the video didn’t get that damage from the spikes. He got hit with the lugnuts. That’s what happens when you try to push a truck over because you think you need to be in front of em.

    3+ decades driver here. Those lug nut covers are just a dress up thing. They are harmless. I personally don't care for the look (the spikey ones) but over the years I've come to not appreciate even the old school type it's just money out the door on a tool and adds more maintenance to fool with same with chicken lights if it's there it has to work. One little bulb out is reason enough to some John Wayne to put you in the Inspection barn. And since I don't put up with Jack from hypocrit Gestapo that never goes well. I've come to appreciate a plain Jane truck.
