    So I tried this out last week, after 4 days it was 8%. I started drinking it then.
    The remaining that has survived is now 9 days old and reading 14%.
    I used mangrove jacks MK02 cider yeast.
    Just made a new batch this past weekend, added fresh mint to the must, tastes even better.
    Thanks for the new hobby!

      I'd just add a charge (sugar syrup) to the bottle. Completely ferment the beer, siphon to the bottle, add syrup, close bottle, let sit another fortnight or so. It was quite drinkable (used a cider yeast).

    No need to sterilise your ingredients if you are boiling it all for 15 minutes, that's more than long enough to kill any bugs that may have been there. Cheers.

    • @MrKongatthegates
      @MrKongatthegates Před 11 měsíci

      The air has microbes, its not "sterile" at all. its sanitized. people fear spoiled brews but if you have a descent air lock/seal everything will happen in a nice CO2 environment and the yeast will outcompete other germs and the alcohol will litterally kill the rest. Thats why they say drink beer in mexico not water. Brewing purifies the water, nothing dirty or scary at all. I brew in buckets while other guys spend 10s of thousands on home brew setups. total waste

    If you swirl the bottle around when you invert it into the fermenter it will create a vortex which will empty the bottle very quickly, with a rush rather than glug glug glug.
    Just for pure interest sake, I believe that 2kg of sugar in 8 litres of water will give you a starting gravity of approximately 1.090 with the addition of the raisons at least 1.090. Sugar will ferment out to a very low SG perhaps less than 1.000 but if it only goes to 1.000 then the alcohol will be approximately 11%. Burp!! very nice.

    I made this pretty much as shown. The ginger flavor is really really strong. Alcohol is pretty strong, too. It's good, but I have to cut it with soda to tame the strong ginger. I think you could make it with half the ginger and a little less sugar. Otherwise, it's a good mixer with Sprite or Apple soda.

    Looks great, I bet it tastes great. You should always ferment to completion before bottling into sealed bottles unless you are aware of the physics of what you are doing in relation to sugar, attentuation, and carbonation. Refermentation doesn't care about the space you have above the liquid, and what you show isn't ample to "contain any fermentation". Use a sugar addition to restart fermentation for carbonation. Plenty of calculators online with how much to add to your ginger beer before bottling.

      Just racked it off the ginger, where its been sitting for a month.. and holy... Is thats delicious... 🤯🤩
      Unfortunately it seem to have stalled about 80% through.. ☹ Leaving too much residual sugar and not enough live yeast for carbonation 😢
      Not as dry as i would like it, but not too sweet, and super delicious.. So i guess this is a batch for the soda stream..
      But im definately doing this again, and take some inspiration from your recepie next time 😊Cheers!

    4:22 so the tap water vs bottled water, most of the time bottled water is actually just tap water that’s been filters so you would be better off buying a good water filter jug and just keep buying new filters (they also don’t need changing as often as the manufacturers claimed) it’s going to save you a bunch of money in the long run and it’s the same stuff your overpaying for and there are some amazing filters on the market I have found one that removes 100% of stuff from the water (most don’t including brita) it’s called zero water filters.
    For drinking you don’t really want everything removing from your water as we get quite a bit of our mineral intake from the water we drink but if your making drinks/brewing it’s probably a great idea.

    • @BretBeermann
      @BretBeermann Před 9 měsíci

      This is a good way to get hurt. Exploding glass under pressure is dangerous. If you aren't knowledgeable about measuring sugar content (and the changes when measuring in an alcoholic liquid), do not know the attenuation your yeast/bacteria might yield, and bottle early you are going to end up unhappy at some point. Do as @johanneswerner1140 suggests.

    if you wanna crank it to 19% i can recommend trying double snake turbo yeast with a low starting amount of sugar (i just "fed" the yeast daily for ~two weeks until it stopped reacting) and a clearing agent that clumps the yeast in the liquid so it gets a clearer color (and no yeast remains)

      well yeast is in the air, you can collect it and grow it. Wild barley will have natural yeast on it. But its alot easier to buy some yeast. More consitent taste, and strains are fast acting. Even bread yeast will work but I reccoment a packet of brewers yeast. Its only a couple bucks. Beer yeast, wine, cider, champaign yeast yes, your brew store has all of it. or online

      Yeast needs sugar to convert it to alcohol , although there will be some sugar in the mixture but very small amounts thus not making it a very happy place for yeast . It may possible only give you o.5% by vol if at all 😊

    • @kiwifilm8589
      @kiwifilm8589 Před 9 měsíci

      You could if you had a lot of fruit with high sugar content (eg grapes or sweet cider apples). Beer gets its sugars from malted barley grains, so you could use malt extracts DME = dry malt extract or LME = liquid malt extract. But these have more body and mouthfeel like beer. But it’s just sucrose (white sugar) you’re worried about, there are other brewing sugars like maltodextrose or plain dextrose. Sucrose is the cheapest option, but the brewers sugars I mention are commonly available in supermarkets, but sometimes marketed as beer enhancer.

    It's really difficult to find a good hard ginger beer recipe. I ended up taking different things from a bunch of different recipe I liked. Like you said, the beer lacks body. So instead of sugar, I used molasses. Also, I don't know if it's the ginger, or the molasses that I used, but I noticed the yeast fermentation was weak. I added yeast nutrient and it started up again within 24 hours. It's still fermenting 3 weeks in...

    I would like to share my recipe to make pineapple and ginger beer I make and sell alot over the Corona virus season it is as follow I use the two medium size pineapples and grait it up I put it in a 20 liter plastic bucket or cleaned plastic paint drum I throw in 2 kg sugar ,4 pkt of instant yeast or 2 pkt brewers yeast then I take a whole loaf of brown bread and make crumbs and put it it the bucket can also put a box of jungle oats in then pour in lukewarm or slightly hotter water in then stir the mixture thoroughly with a wooden till mixture and you see only bread crumbs in the water i put the lid on and close it tight sealing it entirely I let it stand for up to a full week but you can let in stand for longer and it will become stronger. but open it up after the week and let get stir it up again before covering it again but open up after every two or three so that the bucket don't explode because of the pressure that builds up then you can strain through a big sif or a old net curtain and then you bottle I tell you that is real alcoholic pineapple beer you can substitute the pineapple dry ginger powder at least 200g and you can chop up fresh ginger and threw it in enjoy😊

    Please include recipes on screen and/or in the description with advice on primary and secondary volumes.
    State your gravities, especially your starting sg, final sg, and sg after any back sweetening.
    *Some unsolicited CZcams (and BrewTube) advice...*
    If your intent is to teach, and not just demonstrate, you should also explain ABV calculation, etc., but if you are just demonstrating then gravities, without going into how it relates to ABV, is just fine IMO.
    "Tasty and gingery" isn't very descriptive... A tasting with auroma and flavor notes would be great, especially if you could bring in someone else to join your tasting so you can discuss. For example how does the grapefruit contribute? Do you taste it, or does it only bring balance to the acids, or does it add a bitter note, how does the flavor develop from first contact to swallow to exhale. I understand you might not feel qualified to do it, but it could also be good content to document your journey of developing your pallet with a friend / loved one too.
    Experiment with adding soft background music, it really lifts videos and helps them flow.
    Keep working on improving your pacing, package the same content in a smooth 15min video and a lot more will watch until the end.
    Keep it up and stick with it and I really think you can grow into a great channel 👍
