I dont think you understand how much I needed this video. For 10 years I have been looking up Magic beginner videos, and none of them have been this clear and concise.
Bro you've been a beginner for a decade?
@@JAMmanprobably for showing friends or other new players
anyone else subconsciously watch this video even though they've been playing magic for years?
Yep. 😂
I did by purpose watch it. It helps me explain the game to new players more easy. Tip i got from this video. Do not add too much info at once. Thanks.
Ya, no idea why tho 😂 this thing is 45 mins long...
Yes ! Me lol 😂
yes
This is well done, my only feedback would be putting chapters in the video. I'm not sure if it's possible to do that retroactively, but as the video has discrete segments in it, chapters would allow a player to quickly reference a section they don't remember, or easily find parts relevant to them.
iirc all they'd have to do to retroactively add chapters is put the segments with timestamps in the description
As a noob, this is an intimidating game so this was so so helpful
This is brilliant, well done to the team. It's SO hard to create an intro that is both simple *and* not misleading. Clearly this script was painstakingly crafted. I wish I'd had this when I started playing! I also want to call out the fabulous Spellslingers series that Day[9] hosted, which is still among the best beginner intros around, and would be a great follow-on from this.
Shoot it took me like 9 years to learn as I lived in the country and had no internet back then to get answers lol.
This was actually really good timing, I have a friend that recently wanted to learn and another friend that hasn't played in 6 years.
When I was young I played Yu-Gi-Oh! (I didn't know about Magic), and now in my 30s I went back to see how it was going and I didn't like what I saw, so I took a look at Magic and I really liked it, and everything around the game, and the community is awesome.
Brother.. I’m the exact same
My man!
I'm in the exact same situation but picking up magic I'm finding incredibly hard, confusing, and frustrating. Yugioh and Pokemon are so much easier
@@MannySimoneCardsdefinitely try Arena. It is excellent at teaching you the game
Same here!
Just picked up Magic again for the first time in over 17 years. There are so many forgotten memories unlocked in this one video. Thanks!
Starting card types by separating them into Land and everything else is a great point. While the word "spell" is everywhere on the text, new player might not understand what it is because it's not on the card types.
time for wizards to put muscle into learning new players the rules and how to play. GOOD!
Send this to someone you love and wanna share your favorite tcg
...or to someone you hate, they will lost all money and sanity
Back in my day, we used these little mini booklets inserted in booster boxes to learn the rules. My first was Ice Age. It's nice that these tutorials are more available now thanks to socmed sites like this.
So glad this video exists! We just taught someone recently who we were able to share this with. Thank you all for making this so much to help them enjoy the game more while we aren’t there to help them directly. 👨👩👧👦
Just last week I bought my very first ever Magic cards in form of a starter kit.
This video was awesome for a rookie like me.
Have Money, the end.
Growing up with yugioh i got a magic deck when i was in middle school surprised they play pretty similar( I know now that yugioh was inspired by magic) and read up on the rules in the guide book that came with said deck, but watching this vid yeah it clarified some things me and my brothers did wrong back then. Makes me want to get back into since yugioh is so messy and complicated now
Trying to learn the game myself with my eldest. One of the most well laid out explanations on how to play! Well done!
I’m new to MTG and though I knew a lot of this, I am so thankful for this video because it broke things down and made me understand why and how on things I even knew already. Thank you!
Alot more simple than I thought lol. Hearing it out loud is better than reading
44:53 Even in an intro video... Craig still manages to play poison
This is the best how to play video. I was confused about attacking/blocking worked with multiple creatures. 13:40 You explained it perfectly, thank you.
Gotta teach new players, because those prices are losing you prior players.
30:30 What to do on your turn quick recap review.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've recently returned to MTG and have a play group of beginners. This helps tremendously!
Just about to get into the game for the first time and this is hands down the best, clearest explanation for how to play I've come across. Thank you so much
Me as a Yu-Gi-Oh player, am impressed to learn the rules and I think I'm gonna get in love with this game soon
It was always difficult for me to get into magic so im happy this video came out recently!
A video game shop has opened up near my house and they are planning magic events. Thank you for this video between this and magic arena I'm slowly teaching myself/understanding the game
After playing MTG since 2007. There are still interactions in combat that I need to brush up on. Nobody plays perfectly. It’s also nice when Arena or MTGO takes care of the subtle nuances going through the phases of a turn. In real life, you have to take those into account and play the game the right way. I will watch this entire video later!
HELP!
I having been searching online for an hour and cannot find an answer.
How many copies of one specific card are you allowed to have in a deck?
Not counting cards that are basically identical but have a different name.
I've been playing magic for months and this video was still super useful to me! Thanks guys, really well made video 😁😁
I bought me and my partner out first magic starter kits last week, next time we get together we’re gonna try to play eachother and get the hang of it, pretty exciting!
That's super exciting! Welcome to The Gathering!
As a non player, I'm glad you made an updated How to Play video.
Thank you! As a new player, this video is the best tutorial which can teachs you in the basics. I learn a lot from it!
I haven't played in about 5 years, so this is pretty awesome to get back in.
This video is amazing! I have wanted to play for years but never found an easy way to learn.. this really helped! Thank you!
Thank you for the amazing amount of effort in explaining each and every step. The production quality as usual was flawless!
I show this video to anyone that says they want to learn to play, its perfect,
Jimmy with the vrondiss playmat one of my fav commanders
Thank you sooooo much for a such detailed video for beginner - players! 👍👍
Just getting into magic. Wow this video is extremely clear and super helpful. Thank you!
Unbelievable production value.
Thank you for teaching me a complex game in a fun way. Loved the video and will come back for more!
Thank you for making this video. It makes me feel like I can learn mtg.
I just started a month ago, this helped a lot! Thanks guys!
What I can appreciate about this is the fact that I always try explain everything at once (ie "excess damage does not spill over, except when ___)
This is so well done. Great work, and thanks!
Great video on explaining how to play. Love the background scenes and sounds. Great stuff.
CHAPTERS PLEASE!
my goodness... BEST TUTORIAL EVER.. loved it :)
I’ve been wanting to learn magic and this was very helpful. Thank you.
Was completely lost before this video, brilliant thank you 😊
This video came about 4 months too late for me but you can never stop learning/ sharpening your skills
27:29 Not gonna lie with JLK being the presenter I thought we were about to see a one mana counterspell from the opponent.😂
18:51 "But that's okay. You're still alive."
*Opponent plays Thassa's Oracle*
Perfect timing hasbro. The most expensive, over hyped magic set on the market is about to release. No better time to learn how to play. $$$$$$
Thank you for this! This was awesome! I get it now!
Friend of mine has had 2 beginner decks sitting around for ages and its my task to learn for us :')
So well made! I'll show this to my gf who's learning mtg
You guys explained it supper well, thanks
Bro the editing on this video is top notch.
Great tutorial guys! I’ll be sharing it for sure!
Best learning tutorial ever! Being a seasoned player I cant but appreciate your great effort. See all your skills and passion here so thank you!!
Will show this to my son, hes 12 and I have never manager to explain rules in such a clear and understandable way.
Btw, question for Josh: love your tshirts with magic rules Priest so where can I get some?
TIA
I really want to learn how to play magic and build decks but I feel too dumb lol
This helped my understanding more.
THANKS THAT HELPED so much
I would pay so much money to head the Command Zone crew teach me literally anything haha
I watched this whole video and not one mention of layers! How am I supposed to learn this game without that crucial knowledge!
thank you sooo much so much help
The last time I played this was in high school…so mid 90’s. But looking to get back into the game with my boys so this video was perfect to jog my fading memory! Plus, I’m more of a visual learner rather than reading an instruction manual. Great job on the video!
This is perfect to help me get my son into magic 😁
This video is perfect!!
0:25 ouch…
It’s ok it’s just cardboard
@@GeekWithMeat yes, i also like to slowly tear 10$ bills until they stop being useful as legal tender
Needed a good video to teach some friends
4:55 (Silver back Shaman comes up) and he goes "For instance, this big gorilla!" 😂
Love seeing Alpine Watchdog in the video. My favourite artwork - I have one pinned to the fridge :)
great work!
THANK YOU 🙏
i cant wait to play
For the final example at the end: do you have to cast icy manipulator afyer your turn but before your opponents starts?
I just watched an entire video on how to play magic, even though I’ve been playing for a looooooong time lol. A good video indeed.
Decided to give this a watch because i got the fallout cards
ty
My wife has Covid and we are currently quarantining from each other so I’m taking these few days to learn how to play. I’ve always wanted to learn but never had time to pick it up. This video explained so much so clearly!
Hi Im back 1 hour later to say the MTG Arena app is complete trash and unplayable. It keeps glitching during the 2nd battle of the tutorial to the point where cards will freeze in random places. Theyll even freeze on top of each other and then I can’t select what’s underneath. What a huge disappointment because I was so excited to play 😢
The app works fine for me, sounds like the device you are using is the problem. Also, who still quarantines? 🤦♂️
UPDATE! I downloaded the app on my pixel and completed the tutorial, then went back to my iPad and now everything is fine. App is great on the iPad after the tutorial if people are experiencing the same issue.
This might be better broken into chapters for a playlist. Telling a new player to watch a 45 minute intro video is a hard sell 😅
Yeah I agree
They don’t have to watch it all in one sitting tho and they have the person who wants them to get into magic to teach em too
Yes, thank you! I now know how to play magic the gathering!
Now i can show everyone how i can suck at this game too🤣😂🤣😂🤣
im new thanks bruh.
Love much duel master
Very Good...!
My wife while watching this video: "What's a Tu-tu?" (two / two)
MTG: White color heals and protects
Me: I think I am gonna put 5 different board wipes in my White deck just in case
Now do layers, dependency and priority please!
Chapter 1 : Casting Spells 1:21
Chapter 2: Creature Combat 7:07
Chapter 3: Play the game 20:03
Chapter 4: Card Types 33:31
Will the commander crew be in vegas for magic con? Would love to get a few games with some of them.
I wish I had this when i learned
Shocked and appalled to see fairly few talking about that BLASPHEMOUS RIFFLE SHUFFLE UgUuuGHUGHgh
Can you imagine a video explaining all rules from cumulative upkeep to plot ... ?
I already know how to play, thanks.
20:09 How the turns and plays work.
When we get a new Commander Masters Trailer? Want to see a new animated video with Eldrazis and Slivers.
Is there a commander version of this?
Although cringe, this was by far the best tutorial I've found so far. Good job
Question is there any like videos or websites that lets you play a rigged game, to like learn, say you bought a starter kit and want to learn more hands on but don't have anyone to play with, is there anything where you can play along with a video to learn all the basics hands on?
