Maha kavi Barathiyar is not only patriotic poet, he is a devin poet. When his songs are sung by Sri Gurucharan with feelings, we are able to feel the apt meening, and depth of his songs. Wazha valamudan.
Thunbam nergayil song is by Bharadhidasan and not by Bharadhiyar. Heading to be corrected.

I heared the original version from the Tamil film Oor Iravu written by Aringar Anna and produced by AVM.I also heared Mr.Sanjay Subramanyam.
Mr.Gurucharan nailed this song on his own style which is Tej ragam.Happy to hear this Barathidasan song is often being sung in Carnatic music Kacheris.

Beautifully rendered and mesmerizing performance. While you correctly pointed out that this poem was written by Bharadhidasan, the credits in the video at 3:51 shows Subramanya Bharathi. Not sure if you can correct it, but, thought I'd let you know, in case, you have missed it.

Actually the initial verses வாழ்க தமிழ் மொழி are by Bharatjiyar and the following song துன்பம் நேர்கயில் is by Bharathidadsan. So the credits are correct. Just need to add Bharathidasan to it as well.

Excellent song of Bharathi dasan
The author of this Song is Bharathidasan --not by his Guru Subramanay Bharathiyar
Though Gurcharan is highly knowledgeable in Carnatic Music and has an excellent voice culture --I personally feel the original version in Raag Desh in the filmic version is far more appealing than this carnaticism of the song --in spite of all its merits of improvisation.
பேரறிஞர் அண்ணாவின் ஓர் இரவு திரைப்படத்திற்கு பாவேந்தர் பாரதிதாசன் அவர்கள் எழுதி தண்டபாணி தேசிகர் இசையமைத்த சாகாவரம் பெற்ற பாடல் துன்பம் நேர்கையில் பாடலாகும். சிக்கல் குருசரண் இப்பாடலின் காரணப் பொருளறியாது தேவையற்ற கமகங்களில் இப்பாடலை சிதைத்துள்ளார். தான் எழுதிய பாடல்களின் சொற்களை மாற்றுவதை கடுங்கோபத்துடன் எதிர்பவர் கவிஞர். "கண்ணே" என்ற கவிஞரின் சொல்லை "பெண்ணே" என்று இயற்பழித்து குருசரண் பாடியுள்ளார்.
இயல்புக்கு திருக்குறளை இயம்பவும், இசைக்கு பாடிக்காட்டவும், நாடகத்திற்கு ஆடிக்காட்டவும் என தமிழின் மூன்று நிலைகளையும் இறுதியில் , "எம் உயிர் செல்வமாக மாட்டாயா, தமிழ் செல்வமாக மாட்டாயா?" என்று தன் தீராத தமிழ் வேட்கையை கேட்போர் உணர பாரதிதாசனார் எழுதிய இந்த பாடலை முழுதாக குருசரண் பாடவில்லை. பாரதியின் "வாழ்க நிரந்தரம் வாழ்க தமிழ் மொழி" என்ற அழியா பெரும்புகழ் மொழி ஆவலைத் தூண்டும் பாடலும் பாவேந்தரின் துன்பம் நேர்கையில் என்ற இந்த பாடலும் தமிழ் எழுச்சி பாடல்களாகும். இப்பாடலை பள்ளி மாணவனாக 1965 ஆம் ஆண்டில் நிகழ்ந்த இந்தி எதிர்ப்புப் போராட்டத்தில் திருநெல்வேலியில் மாணவர் ஊர்வலத்தில் நான் பாடியவாறு முன்நடந்து பங்கேற்று காவல் துறையினரால் பலரோடு தச்சநல்லூர் சந்திமறித்த அம்மன் கோயிலருகே தடிகொண்டு தாக்கப்பட்டதும் என் நினைவை விட்டகலாத நிகழ்வாகும். சுதா ரகுநாதன், நித்யஸ்ரீ மகாதேவன், உன்னி கிருஷ்ணன் போன்ற இசைமேதைகள் இப்பாடலைப் பாடுவதை வலைத்தளப் பதிவுகளில் கேட்கும் போதெல்லாம் அந்த நிகழ்வோடு என் மனம் மகிழும். தமிழ் என்னும் என் தாயை எண்ணி வணங்கும் என் நெஞ்சம். வாழ்க தமிழ்மொழி!

The problem with tambrahms everywhere is that they always speak in Tanglish or Engmil --irrespective of the nature of the audience --assuming that the audience is always Tambrahms !
PL speak in either English fully or in Tamil fully without this awkward switch over for every sentance . I know for sure Gurcharan can speak in good Tamil fully as I have seen in his Jannal Oram episodes . When your Tamil is good enough , and when the audience can understand Tamil well enough - --why not speak the same ?
