    This video charts my first experience with a smart aquarium dosing pump. I am using the Jebao MD-4.4 to dose liquid fertiliser daily to four different aquariums in my fishroom as part of my estimative index dosing regime.
    I honestly thought that this cheap aquarium dosing pump might be terrible, but in actuality it has been an absolute dream to setup and the Smartphone App is really intuitive. Given how much cheaper this product is compared with higher end equivalents, and how accurately it has been working, I feel very confident in recommending this product and hope you find my unboxing and review useful.

    What is the difference between this one and the Jebao 3.4?

  • @williammcdowell6257
    @williammcdowell6257 Před rokem

    Jebao, had an external with a UV, cheap as chips, worked without problems for a decade. Had to replace a head clip after that. Had to change the UV bulb twice during the decade. After that I stupidly burnt out the motor by having the canister filter situated too high, bought a £250 German filter - Oase, always leaked and the heaterstat in the cannister is an issue if the filter is partially clogged, getting what you pay for is never simple.
    Dosing - using a mobile to program anything is beyond me and really on my super lean regime I think Iron all I really need to add. Rotala Macrandra loves my 50 watt cheap Chinese flood light and no macro nutrients via dosing, so not convinced (on my modest little sight) I need to change, but then 'old man I am' and like George Farmer even prefer mechanical timers, they are quick and easy to set. Keep up the good work, love the quick water change when your tanks are in a basement!

      Ha. That's really interesting feedback. It's such a minefield of quality and advice in this hobby. I've not looked into cheaper externals but now you've made me consider it. Defo agree about floodlights too. I rather enjoyed submitting my IAPLC submission last year and in the box for lighting entering the precise Samsung LED Unit Number that was in the manual of my cheap flood light. I'm sure the purist judges with their £500 Twinstar lights were not impressed.... 🤣

      @@AquariumShed Thanks, showing my age typed 'my sight' instead of 'my site', my son tells me I actually meant 'channel'. But yep, it is easy to spend a lot of money and then think, wish I had stuck to a bag of pond soil and external floodlight. Re-reading Walstad currently, thinking of a cheap as chips eco fish tank, Barbs, Zebra Danio fish, no heating, under gravels and maybe, just maybe CO2 - I have never quite been convinced that tanks without CO2 are easy maintenance, I've grown crypts etc successfully without but, really, CO2 just makes life so much easier most of the time, however, recently couldn't work on tank for few days, the salvinia got too thick and I should have turned off the CO2, lost an old but still healthy angel fish, bigger fish in lakes and canals always the first to go when CO2/O2 levels aren't right. So even after 50 plus years in the hobby I make mistakes.
      Anyway, thanks as always. I do enjoy your little videos.

      Ha. We are going in opposite directions atm. I have been re-reading The Optimum Aquarium and contemplating things like substrate heating cables. Totally agree with you about co2. I think ppl that have amazing success with Walstad tend to have slightly raised concentrations of co2 in their tapwater. Good luck with your new tank. Always good to be open to every technique, I never dismiss anything as everything seems to work for somebody!

    I tried auto-dosing. It worked well initially, but eventually the tubes clogged from drying fertilizers. Mould also developed in the tubes and in the containers even if there's just a little light. So the maintenance turned out to be more annoying than just using an eye-dropper. I was just dosing 2 tanks though so perhaps more tanks would make auto-dosing more worthwhile.

      We use machines similar to this at work for mixing chemicals. Dried chemicals, perished pipes, air locks, mould... these are a feature not a bug. They need to be checked daily. The plus side is that they fail-safe.

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  Před rokem +2

      Hi there. Yessirre, still going strong. I'm new to dosers, but one thing I have noticed that I forgot to mention in the video is that I have to use non return valves on the end of the tubes to avoid a slow syphon back to the bottle that was affecting accuracy over time. But by adding the valve and calibrating, I have had no issues with dosage accuracy. I guess it's to do with how strongly the motor/wheel pinches the tubing. Is this an issue you've had with any other models? 👍

  • @YourFreeToys
    @YourFreeToys Před rokem

    So I see or rather found the why u got the return valve on the end. But I'm guessing the watch paint dry, go to bed, slow siphon always happened. Especially no matter how the setup was. Ive since got mine w pump at the highest point, and res at the lowest w aquariums sorta in the middle. But I digress. I thought about the check valve, but wasn't sure how well it would work w liquid. Being theyre generally used w air.
    I guess thing winded q is, how well thst work for u. But i got the kamoer x1 pro-t off amazon for ~$136
    But leaning towards the 4.4 bec why not. Only thing is, those other 3 pumps would most likely never be used lol
    So might keep the kamoer bec why not, and juat go.multi headed down the line w somethingike this if i need to. Kicker is, the 4.4 is im gonna just say $40 cheaper too lol

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  Před rokem

      Hiya. Yeah, as long as I calibrate with the return valve attached so that it takes this into account, it works just fine with liquid. I don't observe any siphoning at all. I guess its just a question of whether you will ever use the 3 additional lines. I only use 2 of my 4 atm anyway. So, if you only need one line it might be best to spend more on a slightly higher quality pump without any siphoning issues etc.

  • @siyafakher1594

    The problem with the Jebao's are the unreliable hoses they use and pumps can be unreliable. As stated by others clogging is an issue as is splitting of the hoses. I tried changing them and ended up giving up after a while.

      Hmm. The only thing I can think of is if your WiFi is only outputting 5ghz, since this unit will only operate on 2.4ghz. So maybe try switch dual band on on your WiFi if you have it. Are the timed schedules still working despite the lack of manual control?

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  Před rokem +1

      Hiya. Still going strong with daily dosing on two tanks atm.
      In terms of running dry, there are no warnings/sensors, but equally it does no harm if the liquid runs out. The pump is literally just three rollers that squeeze the tubing from the outside pushing liquid up the tube. If it were to run dry, it wouldn't do any harm to the motors etc. Hope that helps! 👍

    • @AquariumShed

      Hmm. Technically, yes. But my concern would be the additional wear on the small pumps may significantly shorten the life of the doser. This is definitely the lower end of the market in terms of quality, but works a treat for small daily fertiliser dosing.
