    Yeah, good news from Phoebe. What a cute lil' trooper, I hope she continues to recover well. She's already got some floof on her shaved belly.
    My boy Avi underwent surgery for lipomas around his mammary glands in February (one had became larger and harder and he was also slowly loosing weight, histology came back with imflammation cells inside the lipoma) and while the surgery went super smoothly, he unfortunately thought removing his sutures on one side early was the brightest idea of the century... Ended up brining him back to vet almost every day for two weeks. In those two weeks he managed to 1) remove a body suit twice within 5 minutes and 2) having to undergo anaesthesia again to redo the stiches only to start removing them again the next day. A size adjustable fabric collar I got of Amazon in despair ended up doing the trick as it prevented his teeth from getting to his belly while still allowing him to eat and drink normally. He did end up wearing the collar as a tutu when I put it on him for the first time. As soon as Avi could wiggle his front paws through he got everything off.
    The weirdest thing is, Avi is a super calm and gentle guinea pig, not moving an inch during checkups or hair cuts and had went through neutering before without any issues, so him behaving that way was unexpected.
    Well after two weeks of worry and vet visits to make sure his wound was still healing without infection, Avi made a full recovery and was back to begging for food standing on his hind legs, climbing on his female partner pig Unni sideways from all things and the skin on his belly is now all smooth except for a tiny bump that is on the side where he didn't remove his stitches.
    Moral of the story: Even of your guinea pig is the 1 in 100 case who likes to remove their sutures early, they can still recover 100%.

    Great informative video. I've learnt so much from you over the years One of my piggies recently was spayed( she had huge ovarian cysts) and recovered in a week. It's amazing how quickly they can bounce back after major abdominal surgery. The shock was the vet bill - totally worth it though 😊

  • @Hmrogers97
    @Hmrogers97 Před 6 dny

    Thank you so much for this video! Also I might have a bit of insight into what happened to Phoebe- my wife recently had a hysterectomy and afterwards the surgeon scoped my wife's bladder to make sure it wasn't injured during the surgery, and this is standard practice after all hysterectomies at least in the USA. Since piggies' organs are so tiny maybe poor Phoebe's bladder was damaged during her spay, it's not like the vet can scope the bladder afterwards like with a human! But I wouldn't say the small chance of bladder damage is a reason not to spay piggies especially if they have ovarian issues! Hope this helps explain a bit ❤️

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  Před 6 dny +1

      Thanks for this insight! Although Phoebe's spay was an ovariectomy (the two incisions quite high up on her sides), and when I asked the vet told me they don't go anywhere near the bladder. She also said she looked around it during the bladder stone removal and there was nothing out of the ordinary except for a thickened bladder wall which is to be expected with the stone irritating it. It is a very strange one and I think we'll never know the reason.

      @@SqueakDreams Yes that does sound like an odd case, and as someone with strange and baffling health issues myself I can relate. Thanks for responding to my comment, I guess piggies just like us can have random health complications that may have been related to a surgery or for no discernable reason 🤔 Regardless Phoebe is so lucky to have you as her friend and caregiver ❤️

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  Před 5 dny +1

      She is an Abyssinian crossbreed. She has rosettes all over but her hair is quite coarse, so she might be partly rex or teddy 😊

    Hello just asking a question so other people could answer for me I have two girl Guinea pigs that are only 11 weeks old how long should I wait to bond them with other Guinea pigs as I would like to have a few more ? Thank you I love your channel

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  Před 6 dny

      You don't have to wait, they can be introduced at a young age (which will make bonding easier), but make sure the cage etc is big enough to fit more piggies first 😊

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  Před 6 dny

      Unfortunately it is their decision as they'll be responsible for them. I'd ask why they hate them - because it might be based on myths! Then do some research to disprove them ☺️
