Historic Portsmouth
Long before the Boston Tea Party, Portsmouth citizens provided the gunpowder and stores that fueled the American Revolution and stoked the fires of liberty. If it had not been for the first Portsmouth area settlers, there would have never been a first Thanksgiving for the Pilgrims. Also if it had not been for the prowess of Portsmouth shipbuilders, John Paul Jones may never have had a chance to utter the famous words, “I have not yet begun to fight.” We invite you to discover the untold stories of our American heritage through the many historic homes and museums in our area. Leave your history books at home and join us to learn the real story.
Modern Portsmouth
Portsmouth is a vibrant, coastal New England city that honors its colorful history, preserving its authenticity while remaining passionately engaged in shaping its future. Its working seaport, unique locally owned shops and restaurants, world-class culture, engaging outdoor activities, vibrant nightlife and interesting local character attracts visitors from around the world, year-round. The whole-life, healthy environment of this walkable regional capital provides the catalyst for residents and visitors to enjoy a unique urban experience within a sustainable and progressive business environment.
Once one of the nation’s busiest ports and shipbuilding cities, Portsmouth has one of the oldest working ports in the United States. Today, the port sees five million tons of cargo on import/export ships from trading partners worldwide, plus pleasure boating and commercial fishing vessels. Visitors to Portsmouth can catch a glimpse of the Moran tugboats escorting the larger vessels up and down river. Across the Piscataqua River is the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, established in 1800 as the first federal navy yard, famous as the site of the 1905 signing of the Treaty of Portsmouth which ended the Russo-Japanese War. Upriver from the port is the Pease International Tradeport, formerly the home of the Strategic Air Command‘s Pease Air Force Base, now a prospering business and aviation industrial community.

Nice one
Thanks Robert.
Talking about Manchester I always remember the legendary football club MU
Best city in NH, and so convenient, with Boston and Portland being an hour away, alongvwith great lakes close and the mountains only a short drive away. It is the most liveable decent-sized city in America.
Looks amazing im 20 year old from uk, american dream is to move there!
Has that happened
I have always love Portsmouth, NH.
I am between Cooper, Maine and Powhatan Point Ohio and my hubby and I always make it a point to stop, shop and eat in Portsmouth, NH coming and going.
It is a beautiful city we just love walking along the older part of the city and our dog Harley loves stopping at the public dog area in the park near the town hall office.
Portsmouth s OK but I like Derry better
Besides Cambridge in Massachusetts, I also love the beauty of Manchester and Portsmouth in New Hampshire. They do feel like England to me.
Cambridge is nice, but too many Lefties running the place!
I'm happy for the fact I was born and raised in Portsmouth, I enjoy the history that the town has including ghost stories, politicians, ships, etc. I find it nice to live there and I greatly recommend visiting, plus, what's better is that we actually have a sister city in Japan as well!
'a sister city in Japan'.
Because you have so much in common with Japan?.
The original Portsmouth is in England. It's a naval port.
How did you Americans ever lose you English identity. The most English part of America, the original 13 states.

sounds good lol
Is that so that you might have built a wind turbine for Portsmouth four years ago ....
if so ... how are your experiences .... I hope you are satisfied.
What's the music? It is beautiful.
lordmasterization check at the end of the video. And thanks for the post.
viagensimagens It says David Lowe but I don't see a title however...
lordmasterization This song is one of many David Lowe (an english composer and music producer) composed especially for BBC News. It used to be used as soundtrack for bulletins and programmes on BBC World News. In 2001 BBC issued a CD named "BBC World, The Music" with four of his songs, sold throughout the world directly by BBC, for 5 pounds. I had the chance to buy one of them. This particular song is the second in the CD and its name is Asian Dreams. Best wishes from Rio.
