    WARNING: Apparently, machining titanium can cause fumes that are hazardous and the shavings can be flammable. I don't recommend anyone do what I did without safety precautions like proper ventilation, respirator, and fire extinguisher nearby.

      It would be awesome if they tweaked the design, the bit holder is too shallow imo. Imagine if they shipped it with these bits!

      High praise coming from you thanks! It would be awesome if CC updated this, there's plenty of material to make more room (and lighten it up).

    I made SAK mod
    Cybertool screwdriver layer with added bit. Knife layer from compact with awl. I've added magnet to the screwdriver, so it can hold any 4mm bit. Removed scales
    Now it can fit in my wallet

    Loved the bit set you shared, pairing it with the Topeak Ratchet Stick, you can get 5 double sided bits in the handle, another bit in the driver, it has the ratchet built in, and you can Dremel out one of the dividers and add even another double sided bit if you wanted. Those bits work in a lot of scenarios.

    Rather than an either or question, I would carry the mini ratchet plus the pen. Adds two more double bits and a lot more extra functionality.
    I am always looking for ideas how to store bits efficiently and functionally. I even tried empty old plastic pens. But those tend to be longer than 12cms and therefore too long for my pouch.
    I currently prefer to us "short" / stubby single 1/4 inch bits. Those are 18mm long rather than the normal 25. Two short ones are probably a little longer than the short double sided bits, but I can use "shallower" bit drivers ike the 5mm hex to 1/4 inch bit converter by PB Swiss Tools.

    Fascinating and I admire your dedication to these projects. Personally, if I need a pocket screwdriver it’s a PB Swiss 6464. Not the same form as a pen, of course.

    • @jamescox5638
      @jamescox5638 Před 29 dny

      Bro, I was coming in here to say this lol.
      The 6464 is a beast for its size.
      I'm pretty sure it's shorter than the pen that he shows in this but obviously it's much thicker.
      I have trying to find a way to put a pocket clip on the 6464 but no luck because of the way the grooves. They are just a bit to small to fit. I would love to find a clip that you could fit between the bit storage and cap to keep it in place.

    Nice modification. Bit screwdrivers are awesome, the only negative is when you encounter a recessed screw. I wish that the longer double sided bits were easier to find. That said, those super short ones are awesome, especially with the hi-five style bit ratchets.
    Edit: "aweome" to "awesome"

    Super - if somebody uses it permanently. To me your first kit (with Cobra Knippex) is still the best because more versatile. I use it with simple Leatherman extender (with no ratchet). The combination Knippexes and Leatherman extender can work as ratchet replacement in some situations. Thank You for inspirations in DIY. Best greetings :)

    The Hoto 4mm bit pen holder/driver is 59 g and holds 12 double sided bits. There's a couple in common with Steinwhale. I am sure you could modify the center stack of the Hoto to hold the Steinwhale bits. You'd also need a 4mm to 1/4" square adapter. Or you could just carry the Steinwhale bit kit, extender, ratchet etc. in a small 5g dyneema bag like Ben Vallack mentioned. I am modifying a Victorinox Companion to add the Cybertool layer. It will be about the size and weight of a Ranger when finished.

    Very cool work! I don't understand why EDC-centric manufacturers keep using single-sided bits. The whole point of us whackos paying top dollar and obsessing over minutae to stuff our pockets with crap is to maximize utility and minimize space. Only double-sided bits fit both criteria yet they're incredibly rare and highly incompatible. It's weird.

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  Před 24 dny +2

      100% agree, double sided bits are so much better for EDC

  • @markhaus
    @markhaus Před měsícem +2

    One design quirk I'm not crazy about here. You mention that it's not the greatest torque for some situations. Well they tapered off another radius of the driver pen right where you'd put your fingers to torque screws, seemingly enough to cut the torque you can apply without slipping in half. Why?! Just make the whole thing the same radius and you'd probably have a bit driver that's plenty strong for 90% of situations you'd use these size bits.

    How does it compare to the Kershaw TX Tool which also hold 4 bits but weights 1oz. Also just noticed one called HOTO that holds 24bits and weighs
    2oz

    • @todd.parker

      Those hold 4mm precision bits while this one holds standard 1/4 bits so it’s better for larger bits

    Did you measure how deep you drilled or nah?

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  Před měsícem +2

      Nah but I just did it for you. The finished depth is 8mm + 2mm for the magnet so 10mm. Problem is the drill bit makes a concave hole so I'd bet if you measured the depth from the center, around 11mm is the sweet spot. What I did is measure the fit with a bit with magnet attached, drill some more and repeat. I wanted the whole beveled part of the bits to have contact with the collar because it was out too much, it would feel more wobbly.
