El idioma urdu es muy parecido al hindi, sólo que el urdu es un poco más formal que el Hindi y la escritura es árabe, el hindi tiene gran parte de su base en el sánscrito (alfabeto Devanagari ), son idiomas inteligibles que se pueden entender de un lado al otro, si se dejan de lado las bases dialectales usadas en cada región que componen a Pakistán o a India
