Said it before, will say it again, and will say it until the day I die...
Mickey Dolenz is one of the most underrated singers in the history of rock and roll!!! The dude can do this, "Mary Mary", "Last Train to Clarksville", and "Stepping Stone"...
He's one of the BEST that ever grabbed a mic!
@@ginnywhat5777 She did Mary Mary and Pleasant Valley Sunday
And apparently he could really play the drums. So Don Henley's got nothing on him for being about to play the drums and sing lead at the same time. 😁
@@somethingyousaid5059 Well, Henley could too... but Mickey gets shit on, and The Eagles are considered royalty, ya know?
@@echopryme my comment was a bit tongue in cheek. But yeah, Mickey would never get the respect that Henley would for his drumming.
He still performs. Sounds great
The Monkees are always a delight to listen to!! Loved them since I was a kid. ✌❤
Mickey Dolenz was a great vocalist.
I remember the tv show when I was a kid. They used to have cut out records on the back of cereal boxes. The Monkees, Archies, and John Davidson. You could play them a few times, then screw up your record player needle. Kids used to have fights on the playground of who was better. The Monkees or the Beatles. I leaned towards the Beatles. But watched the show every weekend. Then I discovered The Iron Butterfly and Deep Purple. And so it went.
So sad to hear of Michael's passing. Thank you so much for keeping great music alive ❤
🙏🌿RIP Mike Nesmeth… (the one who plays the guitar)…just died yesterday. The only living member left of this group is Mickey, the one who sang this song. Enjoyed this video, and your reaction. 🌷
First off i absolutely love your shirt! Second of all.... The Monkees CANNOT disappoint! Dig deeper into their catalog. Two favorites of mine are "shades of grey" and the two versions of "I Wanna Be Free" (one is slower than the other).
@@michaelwalsh1035 neither of the songs mentioned were sung by Mickey.
"What Am I Doing Hangin' Round" is my favorite Mike Nesmith vocal song.
Great review of a great song. RIP Davey and now RIP Mike Nesmith. 😥😢
I heard Mike Nesmith (the guitar player) died yesterday. Now Mickey Dolenz is the only remaining member left.
Neil Diamond wrote this song.
This song hit #1 and was there for 7 weeks! Their debut album went to #1, knocking off the Beatle's "Revolver" and then got knocked out of #1 themselves by their SECOND album "More of the Monkees" which contained this song! The Monkees' next 2 albums also went to #1. I was 8 years old when they came out and I loved them every bit as much as the Beatles.
Loved The Monkees as a kid! But now, I can't hear this song without hearing and seeing Eddie Murphy's Donkey doing it at the end of Shrek.
My first live concert was to see The Monkees in Memphis, TN. The screams had to be on level with Beatlemania. My ears rang for a week. They were sustained for the entire concert!
We need a Time machine Allan!
👍🏽
I watched the Monkeys way back when. Also I watched the Partridge Family (I Think I Love You) which was inspired by the real life Cowsills. "Hair" the original video from the comedy special, "Love American Style" intro for the TV show, and "The Rain The Park And Other Things" aka the flower girl song from the 2005 Concert for Billy version.
She did I think I love you
Love me some Dolenz. He's got a great voice.
Noone does it better than the Monkees , classic!!!
Mike Nesmith of the Monkees died today. He was the one who wrote "A Different Drum" sung by Linda Ronstadt in his pre Monkees days.
RIP Michael Nesmith. 12/30/1942-12/10/2021
RIP Michael Nesmith so sad only Micky left 🥺
If you guys want to see her other Monkee ones she did Mary Mary Look Out Here comes tomorrow You just may be the one Pleasant valley sunday and a few more
You'll love their "Last Train To Clarksville". They had a fun TV show for 2 seasons ('66-'68) 58 episodes.
The keyboard Peter is playing is a Vox Continental. Popular in the day it can also be heard on The House Of The Rising Sun by the Animals; Alan Price playing and also used by Mike Smith with the Dave Clark Five.
Mike Nesmith from the 'Monkees' has just passed away. Perhaps you could do another 'Monkees' song soon as a tribute.
Neil Diamond wrote this for The Monkees, and performed it, occasionally. Thanks for reacting to this gem of a song!
This is another Neil Diamond song covered by the Monkees
Neil is the songwriter, but the Monkees recorded & released it 1st, so theirs is considered the original.
It's not a cover. .he wrote it ..But it's the original.....
What started off as a television show with 4 motley haired young guys playing music and comedic
Moments along the way, the music caught on,the songs lit up the airwaves..and The Monkees were no longer just a TV show..they recorded ..played concerts..and the beat goes on Baby..then we were all believers ❤️ great song..great choice..
Thank you Jayy
one of the best Monkees songs is "You Just May Be The One"... and Mike wrote it!
He also wrote Mary Mary, which was later sampled by Run DMC as well as Circle Sky. He also wrote Different Drum for Linda Rondstat the Stone Ponies hit.
Yeah! Monkees
11December2021
How terribly terribly sad there is only Mickey Dolenez (drummer) left. RIP Davy, Peter, and most recently Michael.
Davey's a cute little ball of energy lol
Micky always saying in concert make sure you know i did this one before Smash mouth lol
Yep, he also says "I did this long before Shrek."
😄
I always remembered the Monkees on the Brady Bunch lol
I’m so happy you’re listening to a lot of what is called “bubble gum rock” mainly from the 60s. Do “Mary Mary” next by The Monkees
Just resist any inclination to revive, The Archies. Lol.
@@waynej2608 Well, they didn't have any other smash hits like this one, just a few throw away Top 40 songs that are best forgotten.
She did Mary Mary
@@user-DJDreamworld Whaaa!? I'll go watch it. Thanks!
One of my favorite songs of all time. I'll admit it. lol
R.I.P Michael Nesmith, the guy on the guitar died a few hours ago
davy from my hometown of gorton manchester uk
Love The Monkees!
Check the 60s band The Byrds songs "Turn,Turn,Turn" and "Mr Tambourine Man" and Dave Clark Five "Glad All Over"
I think Neil diamond wrote this song
Monkeys are great used to watch their tv show the monkeys
You must listen to the monkees ' Goin' down
It's all Mickey and it will surprise you!
You might try listening to the theme song for their series, video edition, because it captures the silly fun of their show.
R I P....Robert Michael Nesmith... 😢
If you ever want to hear Peter sing he didn't sing too much but he was in Shades of Grey and the song Words both great songs
Keep up the good work - you comments are always enjoyable and honest.
R.I.P. Michael Nesmith
LOVE YOUR SNOOPY SHIRT! GREAT REVIEW! LOVE the Monkees ! I grew up with them! Kim :) THEY ARE FAB!!!
You always say the monkees make you smile, maybe try some reactions from their tv show… they’re fantastic comic actors!
my parents LOVED the monkees, so i grew up listening to them and even occasionally catch a re-run on tv. i didn't really understand the gimmick aspect but who cared? davy jones was really cute and my little baby brain didn't register that he didn't look like that anymore. 🥲
the older i get, the more i feel like micky was so underrated. his songs have always been my favorites. i really recommended goin' down. 😍 it was allegedly done in one take, which makes the whole thing even cooler.
as for davy, you might really like 'i wanna be free' or 'it's nice to be with you'! he has a lot of amazing songs, but those two have always popped out to me the most.
That tambourine may be the only instrument that a Monkee is playing on this song.. That whole first album was session musicians, most likely the Wrecking Crew and I think Tommy and Bobby Hart were involved.
Bonjour Jayy, i hope you are in good shape and good mood too, thank you so much for your musical choice reaction always good. Tony from Paris France 🌺🗼☀️.
RIP Michael.
RIP Michael
RIP Mike Naismith.
I had a crush on Davy Jones when I was a young girl!
Last train to clarksville, also written by Neil Diamond!
Written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart.
@@KarenLWhiting and I think Pleasant Valley Sunday was written by Carol King. My favorite tune, by The Monkees.
Wayne J yep
A little bit me, a little bit you was written by Neil diamond
Best numbers this group did
Were “ last train to Clarksville “
And “ a little bit me”
Those Snoopy pj's are killer girl.
great music back then.
Neil Diamond wrote the song for the Monkees
RIP MIKE NESMITH
My GF said she was a massive fan of the Monkees. i didn't believe her, then I saw her face.
Love the shirt! Great song! Great reaction!
Luv U Jayy ! Thanks for the great music 🎶
Monkee's did it the best!
Just puts a smile on your face don't it!😀
RIP Mike Nesmith.
I can remember watching their TV show where I first heard this song big fan
With Naismith's passing Mickey is the only one left.
I'm so glad I got to see Mickey, Peter and Michael do their 50th anniversary tour in 2016!! I seen them twice for that! So sad that Mickey is the only one left! But he always has been my favorite 😍 R.I.P Davy, Peter and Michael 🙏❤
Neil Diamond wrote this one for the Monkees.
It was a little fast. When it's played right, it rock's hard!
Sweet young thing is a good one.
Just found out that Mike Nesmith from The Monkees has passed away. REST IN PEACE 🙏
After "I'm A Believer" with The Monkees, "I'm A Belieber" with Justin Bieber 😅
Actually the song was originally written and performed by Neil Diamond. The Monkees, though, have the most propular version.
Neil is the song writer, but the Monkees recorded & released it 1st, so theirs is considered the original.
@@wnsafford1854 why do people keep saying this, diamond wrote and recorded this in the 60s.
@@marcmarcello981 I didn't say Neil didn't also record it in the 60s, just that his is not considered the original. In the industry, "Original" means "original release." It wouldn't even matter if Neil, or anyone else, recorded it 1st. It's the release date that counts. The Monkees released it 1st, Nov. 12, 1966, as a single (with Neil playing acoustic guitar on their recording). Neil released it Aug. 25, 1967, on his 2nd album.
Please do (The Theme from) The Monkees and Papa Gene’s Blues. Thanks!
Fun Fact: In 1967 The Monkees outsold The Rolling Stones and The Beatles
Great one!
Top of both the US and UK singles charts the week that I was born ---the last of 7 straight weeks at #1 in the States dating back to 12/31/66
I live listen to the monkees they where the group to listen too
whooooo wood half thought these dudes could swing like that, right?
Aw yes "The Monkees", the pretend group that became a real band. They fought for their right to make their own music, go on tours and do real concerts instead of being Don Kirshner's puppets. They were able to do this because they already had two real musicians to start with, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, the other two, Mickey Dolenz and Davy Jones had to be taught. This was their most popular song, but they had a lot of great hits. I really like "You May Just Be The One", Mike Nesmith sings it, I also like "Words", Mickey and Peter sing it. Thanks for giving The Monkees a shot!
She did you just maybe the one
@@user-DJDreamworld OK, I only said I like the song, "You Just May Be The One", I wasn't requesting it. So, thanks, but, it wasn't necessary to tell me that.
One of the Monkees just died
Check out stepping stone
5th grade and her name was Paula
You know this is my group
🎸🎸🎸🎸
Smash mouth did cover it but it was Eddie Murphy singing.
Good song good reaction
Neal Diamond wrote this song.
This song was written by Neil Diamond and has been covered perhaps more than any other song recorded in the 60's.
This was a big hit
If you liked Mickey’s vocals, try listening to their song Words!
Hey Jayy, I can't watch or listen to the monkeys and not be transformed back to a little kid watching the TV show.
Take care, PEACE ✌
It's ok Jayy... I got the 4CD Monkees Box set...
Now there's only one. That's sad.
i love you
You understand..Neil Diamond ..wrote this song
❤️❤️🔥🔥
What has America got to compete with The Beatles? Funnily enough, there is a token Brit in the band.
