Infinite wait ended: Placebo with new album
How long does a band actually have to have been gone for its album to be called a comeback album? In the case of the new Placebo record, the term definitely applies. With "Never Let Me Go," the British alternative rock icons are releasing their first new material since 2013's "Loud Like Love" in 2022 and thus in nine years.
"Never Let Me Go" is Placebo's eighth studio work, but the first that Brian Molko (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard) and Stefan Olsdal (bass, guitar, keyboard, backing vocals) recorded as a duo. Drummer Steve Forrest had left the band in 2015 to focus on his solo career.
The recordings took place between 2019 and 2021. However, Molko says most of it was ready before the pandemic hit in early 2020: "We had a lot planned, and then what happened, so now everything is delayed by about two years. I know it was frustrating for the fans. It was certainly very frustrating for us as well, the never-ending wait for new music, but at least it was there. We knew we had it," says the singer.
13 songs finally made it onto "Never Let Me Go". The band released two of them already in 2021: "Beautiful James" was released on September 16, "Surrounded By Spies" on November 9.
The latter is about being spied on, about the "erosion of civil liberties". Molko on songwriting: "I used the cut-up technique invented by William S. Burroughs and popularized by David Bowie in a modern song. It's a true story told through the lens of paranoia, disgust with the values of modern society, and idolization of surveillance capitalism. The narrator is at the end of his rope, hopeless and terrified, in complete opposition to our newfound progress and the god of money."

Of course the quality of the music and sonics are most important, but the art and what the art is printed on is a major part of it! They both go hand and hand to complete the art as a whole!
I like The Cure.
If you like The Cure you probably also like Placebo. I like their sound. A wall of guitars and electronics.Very accessible music with beautiful melodies. A kind of dark driving alternative rock.
Every you every me, Special K, The bitter end, Song To Say Goodbye, Pure Morning, Teenage Angst, Bruise pristine...great songs from the nineties and early 2000...
This new album is great. It's Placebo with the old familiar sound, and I really like that. They should not change or reinvent themselves. Not a weak song to be found.
I absolutely love the album and it's great to hear Brian's voice and the band again after such a long time.
Myself I got the record , CD, and cassette but in a package deal without that box that you have Michael.
Thank you for another well made video 👍👍
Good album for sure. I was hooked on Placebo when they did song “Without you I’m nothing “ with David Bowie.
Cheers Michael!
Stay cool Michael and thank you for another great album presentation. The production value and layers of sound on this album is fantastic. Kudos to the producer, the engineers and of course, the album pressing process
Placebo’s strip down live show version in the early/ mid 2000’s was 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
running up the hill cover placebo did was the best
The best is yet to come! 🙌🤗🥰
Many thanks. Listened to the review. Listened to the album on Spotify. Definitely getting this on vinyl…..also still desperately searching for Glass lit dream on vinyl so if anyone can point me in the right direction. None listed on eBay
Agreed, its a great album.
Great band. They used to rehearse at Creekside Studios in Deptford (or Cokeside as we used to call it!) and would regularly see them hanging out.
Fantastic review
Really great album and they did a good job with the pressing. I have the transparent green version and it sounds fantastic.
Placebo has the perfect definition of today’s video from MoFi: “a hug is another way of hiding your face”

I was impressed with this album, everything I hoped it would (from a long term placebo fan). Great stuff
A well presented double album. Wouldn't say i am a fan of placebo but your enthusiasm has piqued my interest to at least check out this latest offering.
Great video, Michael. Wonderful record and presentation. Always love to see the poly sleeves.
Have to say the sound quality of your video is fantastic. MoFi could learn a thing or two. 😂
This placebo record is a gem, great pick.
And today, I think we'll see that the banana (loved the analogy by Mazzy) is actually a little transgenic, not fully organic. Still looking forward for you to receive the new VMPs. They are getting better and better
Seeing them in my home city in November. Also Greetings from 40 Degrees Celsius, Leicester, UK. 🥵
I really like Placebo. Have a couple of cds of their's looking for vinyl lps now. 'Every You Every Me' is excellent as is 'Black Eyed' 'Special Needs' 'This Picture'. Prefer this era to their earlier recordings.
Same temps here Michael, unreal for the UK.
When I saw the new CD at MMarket I bought it, not 1sec of thinking, new Placebo album, I must have it. How good is it? Have to say most songs are good, but I would say 1-2 would come into an Best-of area which is not much. Still the entire album is good, so I´m not sad, it is difficult for every artist to invent new great stuff year over year.
Same goes for the new Alan Parsons Project album, the actual reason I went to the market, every song is good but not many which would come into a best of folder.
But all in all great too.
When I saw the Pink Floyd Pulse BluRay I had to buy this too, boy that where 100€ in total for this 3 sets.
Quality of the bluray was not that great, picture is not much worked over, sound is great, concert is my fave of all time
I am not that great fan but u r right, this is a perfect album. Ill take this placebo... sure helps😋
Mons Belgium - 17.30 Hrs = 42 DegC 😎
Just got my boxset, but unfortunately side C of LP2 is off centered, causing pitch problems and distortion on chemtrails :( the rest is fine by the way.
Love your videos!
Greetings from Italy
I checked my records and I have none

I do!
@@HeinzSchweizer which records?
@@matzeflamingos For example the 1988 german pressing of "Stay On These Roads" by a-ha has a printed innersleeve which is poly lined.
Absolutely hate this band. Maybe even more than U2 if that's even possible. I thought that they disbanded a long time ago, unfortunately they didn't.
@Charles Vonderheid I don't know. I'm not a music critic. I just now that they annoy me for whatever reason.
