- Enchanted is a crowd-pleasing Disney musical about a cartoon princess who gets banished by the evil lady to our real, non-cartoon world. It's enjoyable enough, as long as you don't pay much attention to all the sins.

You missed the fact that despite looking great and it being an important moment, Giselle did NOT follow the dress code for that ball.
Glow down, tbh (though she still looked fantastic!)
That drives me nuts every time I watch! Wanted her to have the biggest floofiest dress!
Yeha
I think the reasoning behind the costuming was that it was supposed to get gradually less "fantastical" as Giselle began to fit better into real life. She starts out in this floaty, ethereal pink thing with hair down to her thighs in Andalasia, then her first night in reality she's done up in a massive wedding gown with a hoop skirt. The next day she changes into something more practical, but it's still a floaty gown and still sticks out. Then she switches into the shorter dress and heels - still floofy, but at least it's getting closer to something a real woman might wear. Then for the ball, it's kind of the culmination; everyone else is wearing the kind of over-the-top fantasy thing she usually wears, but she's in a sleek, modern evening gown with an achievable hairstyle. And by the end, she's just in a normal dress.
I agree though, having her dressed so plainly for the ball felt like a bit of a missed opportunity, even if it's thematically appropriate.
@@Zazsuran At least she could've worn a brighter color; she'd look good in blue.
No sin for Idina Menzel bringing her cell phone to her wedding to a guy she's known for a day and somehow getting reception in a place where phones don't exist? Oh Jeremy...
Its intentional, the movie is a parody. She gets married to a prince that she only knows for 1 day like in typical disney princess movies, i don't know about that phone part but it may be a random joke imbedded into the movie.

When Giselle came to New York, she brought some infectious Disney magic with her. Anyone close enough to hear her singing becomes a Disney performer against their will.
Honestly that would be my nightmare
In other words, she's Wanda Maximoff.
@@hiccuphufflepuff176 -
Amy Adams was Wanda Maximoff before Elizabeth Olson
Using her magical, reality-altering Princess powers on unsuspecting New Yorkers, Giselle proves that she was the true villain all along.
But, hey, that's just a theory... a Film Theory!
Patrick Dempsey, in that scene, even calls out that that it's very weird the steel drum band 'knows the song' when he's never heard it before, and is trying to figure out why everyone knows the choreography.
Sometimes a movie is just so entertaining you don't notice that it makes little to no sense
Or you notice, and you just don't care.
Well, it's a parody. It's like Space Balls, it's not supposed to make sense. You're just supposed to enjoy it
especially since thats kinda the point of the movie
Giselle is literally a just cross between Rapunzel, Belle and Ariel, and Narissa is an even weirder cross between Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Yzma
And Snow White.

OmG wow!
Or the office lady being Ariel
I'm not at all surprised that the girl said she'll miss her when she was leaving, despite it being only one day. She's a little girl and the lady is dressed as a damn princess. If someone dressed as a Jedi or a pirate came to my house when I was her age I'd have been completely euphoric.
I humbly submit for one sin off for one of those dancing old men in the “How Will She Know” song. He was a chimney sweep for the original Mary Poppins and although not relevant, it is heart warming enough to see an actor this old continue with his craft to this age that I ears a sin off.
I would also like to submit a request for half a sin off for Jodi Benson aka the voice of Ariel being the secretary

What's ironic is that in "Frozen", Elsa says that you shouldn't marry a man you just met, yet Idina, her voice actress does just that at the end of this movie.
Also, Elsa seems perfectly fine with Ana immediately falling in love with Kristoff and marrying him at the end of the movie. Just like Enchanted, Frozen is really hypocritical in its subversive messaging.

I live in NYC. No one would be shocked at Giselle leaving the sewer.
14:41 This part with Nancy and Edward actually makes a lot more sense with a deleted scene that ended up being cut from the film. There was a deleted scene where Nancy is talking to who I think is like one of her employees or coworkers at work who tells her "You're a hopeless romantic discovering that romance is hopeless", and I think they should have kept it because it explains so much about her character in the rest of the film. It explains how Robert was easily able to solve the misunderstanding about Giselle by sending her flowers (this gesture means a lot more to her than it does to the audience), why she was so impressed with Edward's statement about his love for Giselle and how it could be so romantic without having a hint of irony, and why she runs away with Edward in the end. She really wanted that fairy tale romance. I'm not really sure where they cut the scene considering everything about her character throughout the movie is pretty much completely centered around the context given in it.

I recently rewatched this movie and was floored by Amy Adams' acting in the scene where she gets angry for the first time. It's honestly breathtaking how many emotions the characters go through and how well her face portrays them.
Also, the musical scene breaking reality was the whole point of the scene, that she had reality warping, mind controlling, disney princess super powers. Like an even more vicious version of the Pied Piper. You will follow, you will dance, you will sing, and you will enjoy it, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. I love that scene
And the satisfying bit for me was hearing him poke a thousand holes in a typical campy musical sequence. I love music and I love movies, but I don't often love it when one invades the other for no good reason at all.
@@BeeWhistler I feel like the movie agrees with you and the whole point was to be a parody of that trope, but I understand that not everyone shares my perspective
The entire movie is Disney parodying themself. Thats what makes it so great.
For kids and adults.
Exactly! It's definitely more parody than satire. It's not trying to be smart and subversive, it's being intentionally ridiculous lol
That's why I loved this film. It's not just so we can gawk at Amy in her overly pimped out dresses, it's so we can cut loose and enjoy Disney making fun of themselves.
