    I would appreciate their first albums more if they had a clearer production like this, as long as it isn't too polished.

      @@philkozla2917, clearer, not fully clean, as in _Unholy Cult._ At the time I wrote the OP, I was interested in the band but had a hard time understanding their earlier work mainly due to production. I got used to it over the years and have seen them live three times since.

    First album was great, I could never get into the ones that came after though.

      ... how so? They are all incredible and very similar in style

      @@bingboompow8861 Well, I think the first one had its own unique sound and style. A lighter, more classier sound. I think the albums that came later were a little too over the top...too loud, dare I say "too heavy"?? Their other albums just seem like a bastardized version of Immolation to me. I have to admit I was also a bit annoyed when they started using normal text font as their logo, that's sacrilege to me.

      wow, their debut is nowhere near as good as their best albums, but I can understand the nostalgia. Also, they did up the ante somewhat and become faster and more intense, especially on Close to a World Below (their best IMO)

      @MetalSalvation Před 4 lety

      @@sargerobo5792 I'm actually considering getting rid of the later ones I own and just keeping my "Dawn.." and "Stepping on Angels..." CD's, those are the only ones that really matter to me. I might keep "Here in After" though.

      Indeed.This one is solid but not even close to the version from Dawn of Possession

      One element that bothers me about later Immolation is that Ross' voice changed to a more typical guttural sounding style (like so many other bands have); whereas in the old days his voice had a more haunting, almost ghostly/whispering growl which to me was far more unique.

      @@MetalSalvationThe old vocals might have been more harsh on vocal cords.
