Thank you for your detailed description of your Van conversion. I am enthusiastic about it. I live in Germany and Most people do convert their van differently: a kitchen unit to one side and a box with hinged lid in the other. Additionally a box with hinged lid behind the Front seats. That means you will have a T-shaped aisle so that you can get in and Out through all rear doors, but you also lose a lot of space.
I life in Germany, I'm 71 years old converted my Citroen Berlingo XL all alone. I build a rock'n-roll foldable bed according to your instructions (90 x 185 cm, as I'm only 175 cm tall), a kitchen/cabinet unit at the legt side. In the legt rear window I fixed a luggage bag for lighter clothing ad socks, swimsuit etc. I also build a table which can be fixed inside at the cabinet and outside at the trunk door. A very clever solutions.
Meanwhile I tested my conversion two times by a road trip to France and Italy and I really love to travel with my mini camper van. Thanks again and all the best.

with a rear lift door, on our van we simply clip the shower tent onto the underside of the rear door. we cut to top off an inexpensive stand up toilet/shower tent, and added 4 clips to attach to the door.

Well this works, and it is a lightweight easy solution. Nice!
Add 1-2 IKEA deck tiles (wood or plastic) under your feet for a dry surface.
Harbor Freight has a sturdy magnet paper towel holder which would work well to hang your towel on the car, and your clothes.
I would use a small plastic tub to stand in if water run off is too noticeable. Trees need water.
I'm in Santa Clara, California. I'd love to know where that last canyon shot was taken. Looks like Utah. Lovely trail!

That's a great und cheap shower, thank you for showing.
I like these modern high pop-up-tents. They're not much more expensive than your shower-cabinet, but they're build up very fast, and there's no need to take the shower directly beneeth your car, and you can use it for your toilett, too. And with the zipper-door there's no risk of opening by the wind. The only real downside is the package: One more peace of kit in the car with about 60cm (but relatively flat).

    • @ericenjoysearth2756
      @ericenjoysearth2756  Před měsícem

Storage space is major for me. Especially for something used a few minutes per day.
Those pop-up-tents also take times to dry. Very much faster to dry a curtain with a small towel, and the day it does not look to well, they cost less than 5$ at dollar stores.
I will never use one of those pop-up.✌️

@@ericenjoysearth2756 Goog argument, and for your information: I don't live in my van, I use it in camping-mode only for "long weekends" or for up to a week at a time. So of course our needs are a little bit different from each other.

Brilliant and ingenious! The best thing about this is that it is very compact & lightweight, unlike all the other options I have seen.
I agree, being able to wash yourself properly is really important when you are camping or travelling, and here in Australia we don't have gym chains where one membership can be used around the country. I can manage happily with a bucket bath, but especially as a woman, privacy can be an ongoing issue.

Thank you! From central part of Texas. Things i may try--Magnetic hooks from Harbor Freight instead of suction cups. Reinforcing the edge where that hook goes through to hold the shower curtain side with Gorilla tape (extra strong brown duct tape)
XL Binder clips from office supply vs chip clips. Rubber floor mat from van to reduce muddy feet? Idk. Maybe a designated shower mat one. Another idea is drill small holes in a gallon water jug lid and use as a shower.
Thanks for sharing your great ideas!

Everything I'm interested in doing - everything that's important to me in a van/car camping set up.... you've figured out the most simple, straightforward, yet elegant and genius way to do it - and clearly and concisely explain exactly how to replicate it, and why it's the best solution. Amazing!!! This shower cabinet is the perfect example. Now to figure out how to do this without the crossbars, and come up with somewhere to hang the shower bag.... (I just have a regular car, but I want to replace with a minivan in the next few years, so keeping everything very simple/not wanting to invest too much time/money in the meantime). Thank you!!

Hello Eric. Watching from Roswell, NM, but live in Tucson, Az. I am a travel nurse. I think we are on parallel paths, we even look virtually identical! LOL Right now I have a new Ford F350 with a truck camper that I live while on assignment. The camper is set up so now I use my 2009 Kia Sedona minivan that I will be doing a conversion very similar to yours. You have many great ideas. I think I will remove the passenger seat because I do not have a passenger. I will then weld a bracket that bolts to the existing seat mount location and make some type of cabinet. I have an ARB cooler exactly like yours. It is 10 or 11 years old. Expensive but 100% worth it. After watching your videos I see you may like sailing. Last summer I bought a sailboat and went to Alaska on it solo. A few years before that I did a coast to coast bicycle trip. I will be doing a book on both adventures. Anyway, hope to one day meet up with you and swap stories. Take care. Matt

Salut ! Je suis de Montréal but i lived in California for 12 years before and I lived in my minivan before as well ! I love road trip and “camping”. I traveled a lot and never thought of a shower that way ! nice ideas ! i wonder if strong magnets would work better to keep the shower curtains on the van (for when it’s windy for example). i’m having some other idea of how similar showers could work. Maybe a 3/4" irrigation tubing could serve as a curvy, half circle frame. it would maybe save time with the rope and with passing the shower curtain’s plastic rings through. the tubing could be shoved in 2 small pieces of wooden broom stick that could be permanently affixed to the roof rack. with 2 pins going across to hold the tubing in. anyways, i just discovered your channel and i’m enjoying it ! I like your practical and adventurous mind !!

😊 Merci Eric!

I have really enjoyed watching some of your videos,as I am purchasing a Toyota Sienna tomorrow for camper and van conversion and possibly van life in time. I only have 2 objections and/or questions here... It seems that it would be easier to just shower around behind the van and attach the curtain to the rear door once it is raised. It would be even less intrusive and less maintenance. As well, buying one of those large plastic tote boxes from Wal Mart or Lowe's could serve as your bathing area within the van, just need a curtain that goes all the way around you when showering/bathing;this would also be preferable in cold weather, obviously. I plan on putting this in the rear of the van I am buying...On the bed...Why not just a roll up bed? Seems some memory foam on the floor would be comfortable enough, along w some of that padded flooring you see in kids playrooms and some gyms - which I plan to use in the van I will be purchasing....Your vids have given me much insight into what I do and don't want to do,so thank you. Showing me that there is already insulation in the floors in another vid is golden to me. You save a lot of ppl a lot of trouble,so thank you.

Thanks Eric that's a great solution, simple lightweight and works well. I have a hitop Hiace campervan, so no roofrack possible. I think I'll design something similar to hang under the rear liftup door. Would need four sides to keep my bed dry. Bit longer shower curtains as I like privacy. I've for years just used a bucket with a cup to shower, works well and doesn't use much water. Now looking at simple showers.

Hello from the mid-atlantic! Your videos continue to be an inspiration. I truly enjoy how you present the material in such a way that it shows the reality of van-life. The attention to detail on showing all the steps and the way you show them are inspired. I feel as though you left nothing out and yet you didn't dwell. Your tips and tricks are truly a service. Thanks for yet another indispensable bit of knowledge. And absolutely gorgeous footage of Utah!!! And was that Colorado and Wyoming as well?
One question I always struggle with is how do you do time management? I'm curious both from a day-to-day perspective, and from a longer term perspective. How do you balance travel vs seeing/enjoying. How long are you in the van vs at a home base? How do you balance the daily eat/sleep/hygine routine with going on adventures?

Simple, effective and inexpensive...but, why would you not choose to use what you already have in the way of the rear hatch door for top support? You should be able to easily affix connection points on the door and frame for the curtain, and while it may be height limiting, it minimizes additional equipment that you need to carry.
