During ww2 my dad was british merchant navy , and in south America you had neutral ports and they had bars full of german crews mainly submarine crews and british crews and they couldn't fight each other in a neutral port . And my dad used to say they would buy rounds of drinks for each other and smile because the bars were very close and both sides watched each other in case they left port . And out of port they would be trying to kill each other . its a funny world

@Königstiger my dad didnt say enough about it to write a book he just said that in nuetral ports the local police tried to keep the allied and axis crews in different bars and you would see axis crews in bars and they knew they would get in trouble fighting , so they would wave and order drinks . he saw quite a few ships sunk during the war .

And oh boy it’s the most awkward situation I’ve ever experienced when they met each other for the first time. I had a friend who worked as a bouncer at a club in Munich during the civil war in Yugoslavia. He said it was pretty scary sometimes because there were plenty of Croats/Serbs/Bosnians who lived and worked in Munich, but since it was so close, would periodically return to their respective communities in Yugoslavia to take part in the fighting, sometimes just over a weekend. Then they'd come back to Munich and go to work. So basically as a bouncer you had to deal with sometimes drunk angry people who were used to fighting and killing on a daily basis, add to that that they could go to a club and see members of the group they were fighting back in Yugoslavia - it was a bit of tinderbox to say the least.

@@xxxxxx-rg6qr Tbh, I don't think it will be the fall of Western hegemony, though. The West and Turkey have a lot of shared interests, and we could certainly work with Turkey more closely to everyone's benefit, but I think the reality is that Western nations know Turkey doesn't have an effective alternative to turn to. We can work against Turkish interests in favour of our own and Turkey may protest with acts like the S400 purchases, but ultimately it can't truly pivot anywhere else in any significant way. Russia has revealed itself to be a paper tiger, far weaker than the waning power it was even believed to be, China cannot yet truly challenge Western hegemony, and Turkey would never fully decouple itself from the West. I don't see that really changing.
