THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.
PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.
CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?
VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?
IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "
ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10? - Zábava
It always bothered me that they never acknowledged Pierce dying here. Imagine if Ben went into that fight at the end with the mindset of doing it for Pierce and any of the other aliens the Knights murdered
Hell we don’t even see the reactions of both his teammates or his friggin sister. And it would be so easy to fix. Instead of Argit coming out of nowhere, have Manny or Helen contact Max or Ben themselves and have them work alongside the team

25:12 While I wouldn't call most of the Omnitrixes weapons, the Ultimatrix is the exception. It was designed for power, its forms are created through war simulations, and we know that it caused the sentient ultimates to suffer. The omnitrix was designed to create peaceful understanding and Ben uses it as a tool to do good, he's proven multiple times he's a hero without powers, but the Ultimatrix was created for combat.
Which is a big reason why Azmuth hated the evolution feature.

Professor Paradox: there are an infinite number of universes, like the one where ben turns into way bug and throws O'Driscoll's bald arse into space. Causing the forever knights to disband permanently in perpetual pants pissing fear.
The knights used to always confuse me, their intentions or agenda was never really clear to me. All i could understand watching them as a kid is that they where in the business of scavenging alien tech, and often used as filler villains. I'm glad they got a more important arc in UAF. Always good to see another great breakdown! also how did i not notice mr Baumann was in UAF :0
Don't worry, neither did I for Baumann. Like Kuro said, the two versions are so different it's hard to even believe they're the same character. I only know they are because I went to check TvTropes.
Pierce's death would've been much more impactful if they showed any sort of consequences for it, have Manny and Helen lose it again like when they were introduced and have max feel like he failed to keep a kid under his care safe, anything other than just never acknowledging it
Kevin did mention it in Weapon XI part 1 as one of the reasons why Ben never getting the omnitrix would have been better even if it was an act
@@axelnilsson5124 He technically still be alive, but I'm not sure how that would that be Ben's fault. He's the reason he got his powers, but it wasn't he's fault Pierce die. If anything, it is servantis fault for making everyone think they're half alien when they are technically still human.

Should be said, the "Wielder of the most powerful weapon" line is accurate because Albedo's Ultimatrix is actually a weapon. Or at least, was modified INTO a weapon by Albedo. Whatever research purpose it had before Albedo installed the energy core into it, it's now a weapon: the most powerful weapon in the universe.
The chrono sapion time bomb or the anihilaarg might challenge that notion
@@petelee2477 Sure, but Ben didn't know about either of those yet, and I don't believe the Knights did either. To Ben's knowledge, he has the most powerful object specifically designed as a weapon.
My point is, the Omnitrix is a research tool with the potential to be used as a weapon, but after Albedo got his hands on it? It was 100% a weapon, completely.

For me, I always saw Ben threatening the Forever Knights as him transitioning into Ben 10,000, the one who took out Vilgax and feels he doesn’t have time for family or friends anymore. Would have been interesting to see him slowly turn into that Ben.
Agreed! it would be very interesting to see him slowly move in this direction and at the same time show how important the people around him like Gwen, Kevin, Julie, his parents and Grandpa Max are and thanks to their presence does not change this counter incarnation of himself.
They really should’ve had Driscoll in armor that looked like his classic series Forever King, it took me years to realize they were the same character
Or at the very least a similar type of armor. Driscoll is unrecognizable without it since he spent all hsi screentime in the suit.
The scene where Ben threatened Driscoll shows how intense this show was at times.

@theglassespro4557 personally, I don't think going darker tone would have made the series better or anything, I think it would have had a more negative consequence rather than positive and since the 2003 TMNT went down route in their 4th season and most just found it to be "edgy for the sake of being edgy" there wasn't really a reason for a some of the gruesomeness some of the scenes would bring (most notably in the Baxter Stockman episode, where he was literally falling apart) other than "it was edgy". Besides the first Ben 10 cartoon wasn't all that dark and people love it and for some of the points you made about AF and OV, for the most part they knew when to have jokes and when to get serious in screens.
So… not really dark just kinda dim.
The shows had plenty of dark moments in it, I just don’t think this is one of them.

Ben's threat to Driscoll was legendary man! Ben tells him some of his greatest feats with such an imposing demeanor plus it doesn't come off as braggy or condescending, he's just giving straight facts. Truly one of the most iconic moments in the franchise!
Seeing Ben just straight up threaten to murder the leader of the forever knights if he doesn't stop his alien extermination was spine chilling as a kid and still awesome now. It really made me realize how easily Ben could just waste his enemies if he wasn't a good person.
I have to admit, this arc fully redeemed the Forever Knights for me. Not a fan of them in the original series and certainly not UAF, but here they finally got interesting.
Which makes their “redemption” kinda for nothing when Joseph reunites the remaining knight for the second half of Omniverse
@@axelnilsson5124 OV backtracking on UAF's lore is the curse that keeps on damning. It's similar to how the ones behind the ST constantly had opposing ideas of where the story would go despite the fact they had nothing to do with George's film hexalogy and the superior EU.
Well, while I will say that I take SOME issues with the retcons that OV had against UAF, I don’t really think that the retcons are necessarily really knew when compared to the OG to UAF series, especially since there were a lot of major changes that UAF did, and some of the changes that OV had were simply more similar to the OG series. (And as a personal opinion, I feel like there are some changes in OV that I felt were for the better, so I don’t think it was entirely a problem)
@Axel Nilsson By omniverse, the forever knights should have been gone, but they weren't, which makes me question why the writers, or network, brought them back.
@Reviewers Universe I wouldn't say that. Both UAF and OV had bad retcon, and I wouldn't say that even some of the retcons were for the better, but let's not argue, and let's just respect our opinons.
Imagine in Driscoll's mind when he saw Upchuck again, he's thinking about two things. One, oh no, not again! And two, why does he look different?
Would be great if the sight of Upchuck frightens Driscoll kinda like Scott with Fang in Total Drama

Let's be honests: this is the third most serious moment of the character. First time was when he almost killed Kevin 11K, then when he was willing to do it in Ultimate Kevin arc, and finally, here he establishes that, despite he is not used to take a life, he is willing to do it if he looks it necessarily, showing how compromised he is to the cause of protecting others.
Killing out of self defense/to save innocents isn’t compromised morals that’s good morals imo
Wouldn’t say Ben 10k nearly killing Kevin should be compared to the other two moments since that was out of anger.
Pierce's felt should've been acknowledged by the trio imo, felt so random to kill off one of your characters without them at least being noticed by your characters. Also, liked the scene of Ben threatening Driscoll and the Knights, honestly it makes sense for Ben to be pissed off

Maybe the reason Baoman(I think that's how it's spelled) didn't tell them immediately is because he was worried they were forever knights wearing ID masks to look like them trying to trick him.
Ben Tennyson speech at the end, lives with me rent free for years.

he is good with speeches, we also see him motivating the people from Mad Ben's dimension to raise their voices and ofc we can't forget his speech to JT and Cash

yeah, I kinda like it too, and more add to that I think the OV Baumann is older brother and UA Baumann is young one, so that's why they act differently
I think that regenerating normal, non-metal arm is harder, because there are a lot of different "materials". Bone, muscle, skin and etc.

I liked that the forever knights were written to be so pathetic as their whole point is that the order had been corrupted by petty infighting among its factions, and had lost sight of their original goal, so when George reunites them it makes sense that they're a threat again as they have regained their original leader and purpose
I guess there's some sense there. Still there rise to prominence isn't enough to balance out their fail streak

16:30 You're looking too closely to the US for parallels here. While yes there is some of that in this episode in terms of trying to get aliens to "go back to where they came from", this also has parallels to Nazi Germany. The way Boumen is sheltering the aliens from the persecution of the knights on a holy crusade more closely resembles of how Dutch and other European families would hide Jews from the Nazi soldiers.

This would have been a great time to introduce Undertown. This episode also implies the public knows about aliens living on Earth, since Baumann's store casually stocks alien food. But this seems to have been soft retconned by season 3 of Omniverse.

You're right about Ben acting the way he does in this episode making sense. Since he had failed multiple times and seen great injustice regarding how Bradley was treated. So I kinda wish we seen more of Ben with this kind of Attitude in Omniverse. Since he can just threaten certain enemies who poses a great danger to Earth and those he cares about.
I mean the Incursion Invasion of Earth that occurred in Omniverse wouldn't had happened if Ben threatened to destroy the entire species. Like he becomes one of the powerhouses inside of the Watch to prove a point by destroying a forth of the army with very little effort.
And before anyone say anything, I don't condone violence. But for Ben, he would use it to get his point across.

Not even just this moment but every time Ben gets serious it’s always great to see. Even in og I feel like they always handled the serious scenes well🤝🏾
I say that Kevin can't regenerate in his normal body, only when he's absorbed something like metal, wood, or anything. He needs to be actively using his power for it to work. So if Kevin had his hand cut off when he's in his normal state, his hand is gone. If he gets it cut off while he's using his power and goes back, it's gone, it'll be a stub. As for the removed hand, since it's not attacked to Kevin, it'll revert back to normal, so he can't just pick it up and reattach it.
I'm going with Kuro's head-canon of UAF Baumann and OV Baumann being siblings rather than the same person.
Breakdowns are officially a way for Kuro to open talk about his thoughts about the Ben 10 franchise, and I love it.
Sir Geoge was an amazing character, Him dying on screen was like WOW CN would never allow such, Props to Ultimate Alien crew for pushing boundries.
Good episode and a much needed return-to-form for the Forever Knights. I'm definitely not a fan however of how they brushed over Pierce getting murdered, not even acknowledging up until the Weapon XI two-parter nearly a hundred episodes later. It's also kind of confusing how George's first order was to wage war against all aliens on Earth, but later on they paint him as a hero who even knows Azmuth.

The Mr.Baumann retcon is honestly the best in the series because his reactions to Ben wrecking his shop are always fun to me

I honestly believe that the Baumann in UA and the one in OV are different dudes, relatives(maybe brothers).
My head canon on Kevin's "Material Regeneration" is it'll leave a flesh stub if he becomes normal since it was a clean smooth wound.
He wouldn't be able to regenerate directly from his base human form since I'm guessing the "Absorbing DNA makes you crazy" or just it's cause how complex making a new arm is rather than just simply make "more metal" which is a make workable material to use.
Plus it'll probably be painful to regenerate new flesh so being made of another material makes it more comfortable to shapeshift etc
I see Ben calling the Ultimatrix a weapon as being more fitting seeing as it was originally created for combat whilst the actual Omnitrices were tools meant for peace, but yeah, I also agree with Kuro’s assessment too. Threatening a person with a “peace tool” is a whole lot less impactful than threatening them with “the most powerful weapon in the universe”.

The ultimatrix is part weapon part omnitrix it still keeps the original purpose of the Omnitrix but has an evolutionary feature used for battles
During AF and UA, when Ben wanted to transform into a specific alien, the chances of that alien's hologram first appearing happened a lot. Ironically, when Ben wanted to change in Lodestar but Upchuck's hologram appeared first but he still changed into Upchuck. Kuro, have you ever wondered why the alien Ben wants appear first? Due you think the Omnitrix and Ultrimatrix is like connected to his brain (thought patterns) during AF/UA?
I feel like, if kevin wasn’t transformed, kevin wouldn’t be able to heal his hand back. Mostly because of how complicated the human body is with all the muscle,bone,bloodvessels, blood the nails ect
But if he transformed to a material he’d be able to regen, especially with him being one element right through

This episode makes me think of a Superman story arc called Superman and the Legion of Superheroes where we find out in the 31st century that there has being a massive uptick in xenophobia and hatefulness towards aliens due to some bad guys perverting Superman's history, whereas there it was depicted as some kind of scheme. But later Legion stories in that era did showcase that even if it turned out to be a lie there was still a large issue of racism towards the species in the United Planets. Hell they even use the phrase "Earth is for Earthlings." And considering that the story started out in 2007 and Dwayne McDuffie did work on several DC books there might have been some crossover of ideas.
That one is a fantastic story with incredible art, one of the best the Legion of Super-Heroes has to offer imo. It was written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Gary Frank, happened in issues #858 to #863 of Action Comics published between 2007 and 2008. Highly recommend it.
Honestly I like the threatening form of Ben. His current state of mind if "I'm freaking sick of this bs so you either quit it or I can make it short and easy."

It would've made the episode sad if Helen went to look for Pierce, and called The Trio when she found his body, but as its a kid show they can't show a dead body
I love the line that lodestar said to Kevin. I didn't tell you to absorb metal.
A part of me wonders if, instead of the fight scene, the trio got a call regarding Pierce's death in the original plans for the episode and that was what prompted them to start investigating the knights but for whatever reason they didn't go through with it like maybe the scene was too dark or something. I could see that happening and we still would've gotten Ben's speech at the end there. Heck, it could've hit even harder if we had that scene.
You should have a counter in omniverse whenever Ben damages Mr. Baumans or pacmar's properties.

I don't think Kevin could regenerate outside of a material form, because he's always gone insane after absorbing organic matter/DNA up to this point, and (in my head atleast) it makes sense to me that if he tried this, it might work but over time I thunk he would slowly go mad again

13:25 The new thing reminds me a bit of Rex firing Ben out of the Slam Cannon from Heroes United. In terms of one character launching another through the enemy with a lot force. Maybe that's where the idea for the new thing came from.
@TheInkTank Another air force base near St. Louis is Scott Airforce Base near Shiloh and O'Fallon, IL.
It's about a 30-minute drive to and from the base, and the base was founded in 1917.
The base was featured in the 2018 Rampage movie that started The Rock.

I honestly love the story of Jeorge and the dragon is implemented into the Ben 10 lore with it's own unique ben 10 twist to the original tale, like ever since I got into the Fate series I started to love franchises that imcorporate historic figures or events into their lore in a way that makes sense, and that made me love Jeorge so much more as a result
I love when Ben gets serious and threatening. In the episode where he fights the Plumber kids you realize how terrifying Ben would be as a villain or anti-hero. Often times it's shown he's way more intelligent than he seems. I honestly believe he'd be scarier than Albedo.
While the reason they were restrained is unknown, the escape choreography shows how skilled they can be and further emphasizes how inconsistent it's being portrayed.
I hate how Pierce dies but it's all just shoved under the rug. Even in Omniverse it's barely mentioned. It would've been better if instead of Argit, who barely does anything, Pierce's death would've been the catalyst to the plot. Also, I wish Gwen would have reacted to Kevin's hand being cut off

Visually I always assumed that Ultimate Spidermonkey was just bending the metal of Driscoll’s armor. If it remained as permanent damage through the rest of the episode I think it’s be clearer

To me ben saying the dual has to be with honor wasnt for integrety but to shove the knighs hypocrisy back in their face, they claim honor yet non of them back it up when it matters but ben plays by their rules and still wins showing that no matter what option he takes he will win even when not trying to kill
Also the point of honor was no killing and one on one so ultimates are still honorable

Here is a New Alien idea: it's a Subspecies Alien of Pyronite
Alien Name: Iceblast
Species: Cryonites
Planet: Cryos
Power: Cryonesis,
Weakness: Blue & White Stars & Pyronites
Backstory: Here how I got a Pyronite decided to explore another planet found a Meteorite Planet that goes in circles their planet but bout 1,000,000 miles away where it's so cold that even they can't melt it. As they stayed on the planet more of their species came over years they evolved losing their fire power and gaining ice powers. Changing their species and Planet/Meteorite to Cryonites and Cryos. As time did go on the Cryos and Pyros started to hate each other and started a 3,006 year war until they came down to neutral agreement to stay away from each other. Cryos do have one specie that at times come to live their Big Chill species.
Ultimate Form: He has been in a Metal container cause he is so cold he freezes even fire he basically ice age possible to might even freeze the sun it's not 100% Confirmed tho but he has like Darth Vader breathing but like Big Chill his breath shows in his ultimate form.
Looks Normally: Looks like Heatblast but Rocks are Thick Ice, and Fire part is Thinish ice.

That’s obviously not something that they thought of until Omniverse
I heard your idea for Kevin's powers and would like to propose a balance since I know someone is going to say something. What if he can take the energy he absorbs and uses that as energy for his regeneration but can later push it even further, like optimize his base body without external material or DNA and can use what he's stockpiled for variations on ranged offense like energy slashes. I don't know if he's done that, I may be forgetting, but it can help Gwen since she's mostly ranged and compliment Ben to keep the enemy in front of him or set a target up for Ben to hit.
For the close range he could charge and restructure his muscles first before adding material to strengthen himself further. Thinking practically Osmosians are like an imperfect omnitrix so Kevin using that idea as a basis for how he fights could compliment most of Ben's fighting styles. I could be asking and wishing too much but the amount of growth we see him go through makes me think he still has much further to go in term of what he can do with his powers.

I have an idea. How about you make redesigns of Kevin's mutations. I'd love to see your take on them as well as some new ones like if he absorbed the ultimate forms of your redesigns. Also, ultimate forms for Aggregor's aliens.
