Yes. Anything old. But especially radials. Get one of the old 109 with the inertia starter as found on cash of wings, the fighters

Wow, what sweet music to those who enjoy vintage IC engines & survivors of the greatest conflict in history. The fact that they are still flyable all these years later is a testament to the engineers, designers & craftsmen/women who produced these. Purely historic & a reminder of the "greatest generation" that answered the call when our country sorely needed them!

Love this fighter, have since childhood
With the FM-2, the Wildcat became the fighter that it should have been all along. The earlier models were competent and quite effective when flown by a pilot who knew NOT to try to "dogfight" with the more nimble opponents. The only aspect that the designers failed to address was the restricted rear vision. A cut-down spine with plexiglass to the rear would have been VERY useful. It did not have to be a "bubble" a la Mustang or late Thunderbolt but perhaps more similar to that of the P-39.
If ever a Pig flew it was the Grumman Wildcat!

Not true, it was heavy and slow. Zero pilots loved it because it was a turkey shoot
Very true. John Lundstrom's First Team book documents every carrier Wildcat vs carrier Zero dogfight, and the final tally was something like 93-94, they were very closely matched.
The followup Hellcat was a fine fighter, but it fought the dregs of the Japanese pilots after the Wildcat had fought the experienced ones.

Slightly wrong there, but more correct than you think. They sank two destroyers, not a cruiser and a sub, and yes, with 100 pound bombs, probably by exploding among depth charges or torpedoes on the deck. Look up Medal of Honor recipient Capt. Henry Elrod.

AT what speed does the Propeller turn when flying, starting and standing?
Flying about 2400 rpms, with constant speed pitch changing propeller. Idling is about 500.
